that does not matter that these "races" are only in a game, they "do exist" in virtual reality, so racism is real there

Yes, it does matter. There are even people arguing that racism can't be directed towards white people because of a lack of structural power of coloured people. Agreeing to this or not, racism can't be produced over fictional races because there is no power slope in that game.

Dumbest thing I heard in a long time. Racism has nothing to do with power. A person without power can still be a racist.
Nevertheless this thread is stupid, this poll is stupid and people who get offended because somebody was mean to a fictional character are stupid...

Okay, I pass that through to my former political science profs at university. Thanks for clarifying.
@Chilly-McFreeze then tell your political science profs that there is big difference between structural rasizm and rasizm.

Yeah you really should do that. I hope you didn't have to pay for that kind of education, otherwise you got ripped off badly. Just look at the definition of the word "racismn" and you should know that power has nothing to do with it.
Liking or disliking a race in a videogame is not racism.
I'll make all the jokes I want about Argonian skin shoes or a Khajiit fur rug, but at the end of the day none of it really matters, because they are fictional characters in a fictional world.
And if you think that has any bearing on the real world, you must also believe that killing people in a game is tantamount to killing people in real life.
There's a fine line between jokes about "slave Argonians" and "thief Khajiit" and actual racism, hidden in jokes. Also, numerous comments that have been posted here recently were clearly not "roleplaying" or "in-game". The whole topic has been greatly exaggerated lately and needs to stop before it gets out of hand.

To this and the other commentors:
I know the difference and of course you can still be a racist yerk even without structural power. That "Some people even arguing" should have made it clear that "pedjudice + power" is not the only way to describe racism. Apologies, that might wasn't obvious.
However, point still stands that I hardly can see what is racism about fictional things that don't even touch real life at all.
CardboardedBox wrote: »People are saying it's fake, fictional, and you should just get over it. But it's entirely possible all the race hate is making people concerned on if they even should make an Argonian/khajiit, because they might receive hate for it.
Fictional hate is leaking into real life hate, and apparently that's going over peoples heads.
Lately, there has been an outburst of racist threads on forums. Comments that promote slavery are pretty common as well.
I can't say I like all ESO races, because that is not true, but there should be a line somewhere.
We all spent money on ESO, many of us are ESO+ subscribers, and also do support the game by buying crown store related items.
So, why do we have to deal with racist comments and worse based on what race we chose our characters to be?
Is money we spent on ESO less worth than money of these "in game" racists?

'Enslaved'...are you an Argonian perhaps? Don't worry you'll win in the end you know...The Accession War and such.
