I hate kids

I didn't think my loathing of the youth would be relevant when playing an 18+ mmo...

A kid (of 13!) has recently joined our guild. He joins every trial, every party, every conversation. He's not the only one, they're everywhere.

Do other adults get frustrated with the presence of kids in ESO or am I particularly intolerant? :/

Maybe you should consider playing on PC. There are far less kids on PCNA, at least in my experience.
Consoles are generally going to have more kids just due to the cost of the console being cheaper than a graphics card.

Depends on how they act really. Although pretty uncommon, some kids can act more mature than people of older ages.

Personally I don't give a damn about someones age as long as they behave. 13 or 43, if you act like a poop you'll be treated like on too.

I hate AD and DC. When they join a PvE or trade guild I am member of, I feel the urge to kill them. Am I especially intolerant or is it just me?

If I knew they were a kid I would actually be more tolerant of immature behavior.

I only dislike seeing young kids playing because there are so many other more beneficial things that 13 year olds should be doing besides sitting on their [snip] playing video games all day. We have so many overweight kids nowadays. Plus these games are designed to be addictive with kids lacking the skills to not be more susceptible.

I think I struggle with how to deal with kids. This particular kid (the 13 year old) started crying (on mic, group chat) because he got frustrated that people "weren't listening" to him

My biggest frustration with kids is their lack of humility (eg explaining mechanics, discussing builds etc). They don't listen, they can't take advice or constructive criticism, and neither can they give it in a way that isn't condescending.

People saying "not all kids"... Sure, there are always exceptions, I happen to know one.

I just didn't expect I'd be having to deal with kids in an 18+ game, that's what I'm saying.

That's not a law, it's a suggestion. Parents can decide whether their kid can play or not. I would have no problem letting my kid play this game content-wise. It's quite tame compared to a lot of popular games, like fps games or GTA. The question about the addictive nature of vid games is another topic, not covered by esrb (AFAIK).

I'm willing to guess you are barely 18.
Age isn't a good measure of "humility, but the difference between help and condesension can become cloudy when not done properly.
Some of the most stubborn and difficult people I've dealt with are pensioners. But, then again the youngest person I had in a PvP guild was 16.

I didn't say it was a law, but I really do think the environment of the game is not a good place for them. A lot of immature adult for example see the mature rating as a sign that any type of behavior is ok, not something kids should be subjected too. As well the addictive nature of MMOs is also not the best.

I'm annoyed with some kids, and relaxed with others. They're individuals as much as adults are, and they each have their own circumstances they deal with. I'm not much older myself. Being 24, I cringe at the things I did and said as an 18 year old, and the same from eighteen to fourteen, to twelve, and so on.

We're all in a constant state of judgement in both ourselves, and others. I know I'll be cringing at my 24 year old self in half a decade, so I'm not going to stress over it. People make mistakes, they have periods to learn and grow, and they're just human.

That doesn't mean I won't remove toxic people, children or adults, from my circle. Just that I don't believe in judging someone based on certain demographics alone.

Those kids are likely exposed to far worse IRL, in school with friends, their parents and parents friends. Other video games, the internet in general and TV.

Ive come across absolutely nothing in this game that would be considered anything more than mild. Most 13 yr olds have already had some sort of exposure to all the things listed in the rating in some fashion. And its far from explicit here in this game. In fact theres evidence that the Devs have purposely changed things in the game to water it down.

I appreciate that my desire to play an mmo without anyone under 18 present is purely self-serving and selfish! They have as much right to play as I do.

I was just curious whether sharing a social space with kids annoyed others as much as it annoys me

In a perfect world I'd not have to deal with youth.. at all... ever

Join a guild that doesn't accept kids. There are 18+ guilds. There are 40+ guilds. From what I have seen, there are guilds for everyone's tastes.

Do other adults get frustrated with the presence of kids in ESO or am I particularly intolerant? :/

    Reframe the issue,
you are an adult, and the potential for a positive influence,
for an individual in a setting where they actively want to be
you have more of an opportunity to reach them with a positive message
than most of the adults 'forced' to deal with them in their day-to-day life

    Not sure about you
but personally end up tutoring people of all ages while running pledges every day
as there are people who are unfamiliar with the mechanics in dungeons
so, rather than get mad at them for doing 'poorly',
help to give them some direction with which to improve their individual play
as people did for me on my early runs through

at nowhere was it implied that it was the OP's job to do so,
it was simply stated that an opportunity to influence the issue already exists

totally respect the objections in OP,
and the only other forum that receives my active participation these days is policed as an 18+ community
where anyone found to be underage is banned
which it would be nice to see ZOS do in game
but ZOS did not designate this game as Mature, they just made the game the way they wanted
ESRB rated it as mature to inform parents that they may wish to inhibit their children from accessing it

we could have a discussion about parenting and lack of attention paid to the hobbies of children
but there is no actual gating on this community with regards to the age of players
just a 'suggestion' from an outside source, rather than ZOS' policies

    children will be here regardless
the personal framing of how disdainful it is to deal with them in the setting of ESO
is the only factor that can really be effectively altered
