Lol. 10 mil accounts. 2 mil active

And even with just 2 million active players it would be a solid and successful MMO...and even if WoW would have still 10 million active accounts no way I would ever return to a game where character progression at max lvl is just gear progression, divided into a tier system. WoW was fun for me for almost 5 years, but things won't last for ever.

Sometimes the prey turns and nips us... it's a small thing.

So let the snow flakes and unicorns dance alone until they melt or vanish from existence, we will finish up with those smart enough to stay in the glowing circle of love.

PvE leaderboards does not have more than 100 active unique players.

Battlegrounds in prime time maybe 50+ players.

    Cyrodiil pop is low.

So ye,10 mio bought accounts... lots of new questers since morrowind but endgame is RIP.

PvP is simply dead due to the hilariously unbalanced game play and the punishing respawning policies.

PvE endgame lacks accessible ways to start there. Most mid-level guilds are either dead or hard to find. Most end-gamers on my platform have no interest in training and the skills required for endgame are beyond most players

End game PvE is full of toxic personalities on PS4 NA and not worth being involved in. I also don't see how anyone gets enjoyment out of sitting at a dummy parsing dps numbers with a slow paced combat rotation, but to each their own.

Steam stats are useless, there's many players who have it but dont use steam launcher...
That being said, endgame is in a very bad shape atm. Lags, poor optimization, lack of new content and questionable balance changes... So many players quit after Morrowind update, but ZOS still failed to see the problem. They tried to "raise the floor and lower the ceiling", but they just ended up breaking the floor with all those sustain nerfs and other weird decisions.
I see many new players, but the problem is, even if they are interested in endgame progression, they cant even start it, because veteran content is not very enjoyable for new teams atm. And that is a huge problem, especially if you compare current situation to Homestead patch, for example.
I also see that many new players that quit after they get bored with quests, simply because theyre not encouraged to participate in endgame stuff (both trials and pvp) because of horribad performance and "balance patches" that made entry level unreasonably high for an average player.

    Um, Bethesda just confirmed it?

They were at 8.5 sold units half way through last year, so they've sold 1.5 million since then: super impressive, going to hit 12 I reckon soon with Morrowind just releasing and getting pretty great word of mouth.

ESO, actually now looking like that WoW killer it was touted to be so long ago lol.

Could have been if the launch 3 years ago was different. If blizzard ran this company we would have 50m+ subs, and it wouldn't be free to play.

lol, go back to blizzard games then? I am glad blizz don't run this game as they would cave in as usual to the vocal minority and dumb it down into nothing. How much are they paying you to post here and stir things up I wonder? :P

Here we agree on both parts, steam stats just show trends, not number of players. Error margin here is more than 50%

Also the Morrowind sustain nerf made game far harder for newer / weaker players, as you say it broke the floor.
    This was fairly predictable.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

For whatever it's worth, I'm one. I play on PC without Steam, as does one other member of my household.
I also play ESO without using the Steam launcher as well as my son. ESO wasn’t even on Steam when I started playing.

Actually, the one place where the sustain changes had little impact was with the new players and lower level characters, especially those without any Champion Points. New players have no past history. The game is what it is. New characters are chronically out of resources, and always have been. Learning resource management, or more precisely, what to do when you run out of resources, has always been a part of being a new player, or running a new character.

The change to Crystal Shards with CWC is a bigger hit to new and lower level characters than all of the sustain changes, combined. They have a long cast ability that no longer stuns, and the stun was the reason to suffer through the long cast time. Wrobel might think it is overloaded, but I think new Sorcerers are going to die a lot more frequently, now. Especially new Sorcerers played by new players. Maybe there aren't enough new players to matter. Who know.

You have an very good point, I was very inaccurate, I did not thought of level 20 questing, Kyne or random normal,
I thought of cp250 progressing trough vet dungeons.

Low level sorc can use blast instead, shard is an buff to the force pulse spam.
Better stop using it, yes I used it a lot for an long time, I did not use surge, changing changed me from being scared of 3 mobs to pulling public dungeons into AoE.
ESO is pretty counter intuitive in how to play in an steal an helicopter kind of way but this is on an lower level.

They might just be counting total number of accounts. Maybe not even active accounts. I'd love to know the active users on a [x] day basis across all platforms, but I'm pretty sure they won't disclose that information for fear of turning away potential investors (or something, I've no clue).

Last year (or year before?) It was said there were 7 million accounts created, which I believe counted Xbox free trials. So since this number is now 10 million, I'd say it's accounts created, and not active players.

Which makes me think the active playerbase is significantly smaller than that. But they are hoping that this misleading fact about the game will drive more back to the game or new players to give it a shot.

Zos has said each platform has around 300k active users.

Out of 10 mil copies bought sounds about right to me.

    Source?

Population on PC NA doesn't seem to be anywhere near this. I sure wish this many people played.

With this game, there is no good measure for "active playerbase" that people will agree on. Hoe often does an "active" player log on? Is it measured by the day, week or month? Is it averaged over how long? The entire year? Last 6 months? Most recent month? Is it a "now" measurement, or something from recent history? How far are they allowed to go back?

Saying that 10 million unique players have been in the game since launch is actually a lot more acceptable than telling how many of them are active, if you think about it.
