To those saying race doesnt matter, it does.
if youre gonna play a magic toon and pick a redguard race, youre screwing yourself over and vice versa, some races are more optimized for certain playstyles whether it be magic, stam, healing, or tanking.

Nord isnt a horrible choice for stam dk dps, but not nearly good either. redguard for sustain, khajiit for crit, orc for melee damage, even a wood elf isnt so bad. but i recommend a redguard, khajiit or orc.

yea, i never buy guide books when theres plenty of good resources on the forums and youtube. you just need to experiment and see a commin trend on what gear, skills, and set ups are good.

but OP isnt currently interested in end game content they want to be able to play overland content

you DO NOT need to min max to complete overland content, so OP does not need to re roll or change class, what they need is someone (i have voulenteered) to help guide them through a few basics and help play how they want whether that be a stam, a mag a hybrid or a support DD

I tried to find you online today but couldn't I sent a "group" request and got a message that you don't exist. LOL. I must have done something wrong.

if you message me on actual xbox it would be better. alternativley reply here with your gamertag and i will messge you

I play as FixedBlade123 but also go by Klubb.

what is your actual xbox gamertag?

No offense but there are plenty of players who offer advice for free.

With that, most builds are PvP or raid centric and for solo one can do with only a few of the skills used in raids.

Anyhow, for raid builds I suggest http://tamrielfoundry.com/forums/ and scroll down to the class of interest. You might even find builds for solo and regardless, they are free. Ok, they cost some time to look at.

Noted. I'll check that out thank you. @idk

OP has from what i can gather used heavy armour and sword & shield, which means they have been able to eat the damage and slowly work their way through quests

upon swapping to medium armour & a new playstyle thay are struggling a little with the new 'squishyness' of their character, which i why i am taking them under my wing and will be helping them out.

but because i am dyslexic explaing what to do here is annoying & frustrating which is why we will be meeting in game

This ops post feels like a troll. Your cp is over 600 and your using a dk with sword and shield and a staff? You are that confused by online builds? How do you have that much time in game and be that unaware? You bought a real book on how to play eso? How do you get to 600cp and not know that the game changes like every patch? Your honestly telling me you have 3 millions gold and you cant do a vet dungeon??!?

    How?

    How?

I see you've never used the group finder. ;)

Whenever I find myself frustrated with clueless players, I have to remind myself that not everyone takes the time to research their class/their role/dungeon mechanics, etc. I also remind myself that a truly shocking number of ESO players think they can play this game the way they play Skyrim. I will never forget the day when I, on my then-lowbie stamplar alt (probably around level 15), watched in horror as a CP 700 or so sorcerer in heavy armour tried to kill a delve boss and some adds with a mix of light and heavy attacks. He kept getting stunned and his health was dropping fast. I let this continue for a few seconds or so, then went in to help him out. I then watched him run off further into the delve with renewed gusto. I think he's still in there to this day, resolutely chipping away at each monster's health, one light attack at a time...

I might add that I'm considering starting all over from scratch. My current Nord DK is Vet 643 but I may have to scrap him and start over as a Khajit or something else. :(

don´t do that! Not for this reason!
Put some Glyphs on the armour to raise your health, around 20-22k should be enough. Take 2 stat-blue food and rock it.

The master guides are just a rip off series to get money from people, they have them for many games and I've never heard a good thing about them. Sorry you had to find this out the hard way OP.

The fact they have a testimonial from me which I never wrote (and I don't even main a sorc) is how they were bought to my attention.

I have always wondered if they really are featured by @Deltia and Tamriel Foundary as well or if that's just more BS to take peoples money.

A few months ago I decided to buy the ESO Mastery Guide for about $35.00. I had searched in the forum, Youtube, and other sites for information on a good DPS build for me DK but I was getting LOTS of mixed messages and nobody seemed to help me with a good build that could be used in regular PVE, Cyrodiil, and group dungeons. So I bought the guide. Well ... there went a tank of gas and a waste of an hour-and-a-half of hard-earned wages. Although I had all the Guide's information and advice I just made the switch a couple of days ago.

I'm a Nord DK but hated tanking so I decided to try my hand at DPS. I did a lot of tweaking and got my Nord to the point that he could do some fair DPS but I had great health longevity. The red bar hardly moved in battle (most of the time). However, when I took the advice of the Guide I switched all of my armor from heavy to medium (Hunding's Rage & Ashen Grip). I also bumped up my stamina and critical hit abilities and Mundus stone (Warrior). The result? I have great DPS abilities but a Nix Hound can look cross-eyed at me and I die on the spot.

What good is having lots of DPS if you're lying on the ground with a big, white Plus Sign attached to your forehead? The "Masters" who put this guide together are "Masters" at taking your money and giving you nothing truly useful in return. Save your bucks.

Now I get to figure out what the hell to do. I'm afraid of dark anchors and dungeons are out of the question. I guess I can go back to my old build (which is unsatisfactory) or I can just spend the rest of my ESO life provisioning.

First, i think the published guide book sold in stores is intended not so much for those who frequent the forums and the online resouces but for the other folks.

Second, a common problem is when folks go look at other people's builds and copy without understanding.

    CONTENT MATTERS.

A DPS build for trials/group play is not gonna be sufficient for solo play or PVP. In G/T you have tanks drawing fire and healers keeping you whole so there in those situations one can sacrifice the "keep me alive" stuff for "more damage".

in G/T the healing of the enemies is not as great a threat as it is in PVP so burst DPS is not as important as it is in PVP.

In PVP, early quick burst can be vital but in G/T PVE end-of-fight "burst" aka "execute phase damage" can be critical against bosses with timers that kick-in after ABC.

it is very very much true in this game that you can get more from an Ok or even good build you understand than a "better build" you just copy without understanding even as little as the content it is designed for.

Wait, people are actually dumb enough to purchase those guides?

I'm just... flabbergasted. I mean, seriously. They advertise 30k dps in a group setting as an "amazing result". That's, like, absolute crap. It's a scam, through and through.

Here's an actual good resource on builds for every single class in every single role in every single setting: http://tamrielfoundry.com/forum/classes/

    What's in there?
In-depth guides for everything you need to be good at the game. For damage-dealing, 40k dps and higher to burn even the most resilient of enemies. For tanking, gear and playstyles that let you take on the hardest-hitting enemies while spurring your teammates onward. For healing, enough power and utility to keep your team alive even through the most grueling of trials.

    How much does it cost?
    $0. Zip. Zilch. Nada. None.

Stop spending money on worthless crap. Seriously, I can accept people being stupid enough not to know the difference between damage-dealing builds and tanking builds at cp600+, but when that stupidity gets to the point where the first destination for help is a blatant scam of a guide instead of fellow players in-game or plenty of other better resources when you Google "ESO guides", I can't help but lose faith in humanity.

Sorta did but I've gotten a lot of help (online) from PuffyTheSlayer. I'm in the process of making numerous changes and practicing with a new build and I'm really happy so far. I've implemented several of her suggestions as well as several suggestions from Deltia's Gaming. Both seem to be saying similar things so that's the road I'm taking. My next move is to change from Nord to a more robust race (still haven't made a final decision as it's costly to change races). Things are looking up.

That CP 652 now. I'm old and new to gaming. Just picked it up. Been grinding all over the place trying to learn as I go. Joined numerous guilds but it seems that all they're interested in doing is charging dues, selling raffle tickets, and buying items for their guild halls. So getting information from them is pretty fruitless (for the most part).

I've been able to gather every skyshard in Tamriel; defeat every Dolmen; and complete every delve. I've run a number of dungeons. So I may not be perfect but I do the best I can for a 57 year old newbie.

No offense ... but there's a lot of things in life I can do much better than you. Gaming ain't everything! :)

    Have a nice weekend.
