Do add-on devs (mod programmers) get compensated in any way?

By ZOS, community, etc? Or is it just free work for the benefit of public and ZOS.

I have a PayPal donation link for my AddOns on esoui.com.

So far, the total money made from my AddOns is:
    $0.00

Many addon pages do state that the creator accepts donations of either in-game gold or real money via Paypal.

But also a lot of addons are made because the author wants that functionality in the game, so I suspect the main compensation for making it is getting the addon they want.

(Also I know 3 people who started out making addons for their favourite games and are now professional developers. Not everyone wants to do that of course, and it usually takes a lot more than just making addons, but it's one reason.)

I was wondering if developing add-ons might open some doors to jobs out there. I'm happy for those 3 people.

At least we don't have to pay for addons.

Most addon creators want the addon for themselves, I did for my skyrim and Oblivion mods.
I have multiple mods who is just for me, not something i would publish, too unpolished and narrow.

Some of the better ask for donations as its plenty of work to keep updated.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I know two mod developers that got jobs with gaming companies based on work they did for TES Single Player games.

Now, a while back, Bethesda tried, with good intentions, to come up with a way to pay mod developers. They really did have the mod developers interest in mind. I won't go into details in this post, but it only lasted a week before they pulled the program. For many reasons it just did not work out and blew up in a spectacular fashion. So, I don't see anyone trying something like this again.

So, if you want to financially support an addon developer, reach out to them and ask them how to pay them, if they don't already have a Paypal or similar link in place.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Imagine the tears if it came to light that Miat actually got paid by ZOS for his addon?

We'd all need life jackets because the flood of tears would be epic.

You're explicitly forbidden to monetize addons by ZeniMax online.

The only way to get the money related to addons development are donations. But in almost any game that supports user modifications almost nobody donates to the addons creators.

So in the result making addons can't be anything but a highly time-consuming hobby.

Maybe you should not ask for real money but for ingame items. I have seen several modders who ask for specific items or gold.
