Transmutation requires a special new resource called Transmutation Crystals that you'll need to collect and save.

I'm hoping these will go into the crafting bag...

Oh great.. this means I have to be nice to people again so we can pretend to get along in a group and do group things in order to get these crystals. What a sham.. Zen/dev is continuously pushing us lonewolves into team players. ha ha

Locking content behind having to do vet level dungeons. Screw people's alts, or those that haven't gotten to vet level content yet, eh?

Also, forcing PvP oriented types into PvE content is just as smart as forcing PvE players into PvP content. Another poor design choice by ESO development staff. Who could have predicted this would happen?
I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

    Customize Your Item Traits

The Clockwork City DLC game pack and Update 16 also introduce the all-new Transmutation system, allowing you to change the traits on your gear, including weapons and armors.

In order to Transmute an item, you must locate a Transmutation station and have the item trait researched in your crafting Skill Line. This means if you'd like to add the Sharpened trait to your dagger, you must first ensure you have the ability to craft daggers with that trait. You'll be able to find a Transmutation station in the heart of the Brass Fortress within the Clockwork City or acquire one for your home from a certain Master Writ merchant.

In addition to the crafting skill requirement, Transmutation requires a special new resource called Transmutation Crystals that you'll need to collect and save. You'll be able to earn Transmutation Crystals by completing veteran level content (such as Veteran Mode Dungeons or Trials).

We're very excited to introduce this new crafting system, so keep an eye out for more information on Transmutation in the future!

It sounds as if these stones will be bound on pickup, which will give a nice little income boost to crafters.

Sounds great, thanks for listening ZOS!

I dont see what income that would be. Learning 3-4 most usefull traits in every item takes around day or two and You can research 3 items at once in every craft category so after 1 week or little more You have most usefull traits learned in every item. Also crafters could earn only by retraiting BoE items because You cant give them Your BoP items so everyone will have to retrait most valuable pieces by his own anyway.

If they are BoP how will it provide an income boost for crafters?

    1. BoP gear itself cannot be transferred to the crafter to make changes.
    2. Anyone who has not started crafting research can research the desired trait in 8 hours, or less for a given item. They can have all the traits they want in a week.

It is a boon for all players that can clear vet level content.

Its a move in the right direction, but definitely not a token system. I would also appreciate it if ZOS could give us a way to earn these transmutation resources through pvp; there are many ways they could implement it: weekend gold vendor, pvp rewards, etc

Have you ever played games like LotRO or GW2 where most endgame things are bartered for with tokens? They are grind games. You have to grind a certain number of dungeons or dailies or whatever and then you are guaranteed to receive the items you wanted. There is no excitement of finding things you need for yourself. There is no excitement of finding things others need and you can sell for a lot of money. There is no healthy economy around dropped loot. There is only grind. X number of runs = loot. Believe me when I say, I've played many such game. I've played games that gradually went for all RNG to all token grind and they are tedium. They are dead. No excitement, no discovery, no treasure hunting. They are dead. Everyone has everything because loot is guaranteed. Players are all dressed up in gold loot. There is no way to stand out.

It's very sad for me to see ESO is moving in this direction.

I think most of the folks here arent very experienced with mmo. They come from Steam, Skyrim, RPGs and such and have no clue what a hit ESO just suffered. How much more dreary the game will become.

It sounds like I'm going to have to play veteran dungeons to be able to get these new currencies... Well, I don't want to pre-judge but based on the limited info we have now I find it lame that as a crafter I'm going to have to do a bunch of vet dungeons to retrait...

I don't play well with other's, never have. You may be wondering why I play mmo's with that statement... Well, the answer is simple, what other RPG's can I create a character on and continue to play for a decade plus while getting new content? They aint doin that with single player RPG's last I checked...

It's not a token system. Token system doesn't mean what you think it means.
Both serve to pretty much the same purpose, and I definetly prefer it this way.

Not quite, and what way you prefer it is up to you and not relevant. I was talking about just that - tokens.

Let's see how it plays out and affects population.
I know it's not quite, that's why I said pretty much, and serves the same purpose, as opposed to exactly the same.

Just in case you don't get it, both serves to greatly decrease grind time, while one also revalues crafters and adds a highly priced commodity, and the other is just a huge ui mess that would probably demand a lot more resources to develop.

And both are a terrible idea for a game where dungeons have no cool down.

limiting it to craftable gear makes no sense. as you can already craft gear with trait of your choice.

ok question here. Lets say your buddy has BOUND spinners fire staff that has crap trait. and you are the master crafter. how are you going to change his weapon's trait?

Based on what I am reading .. people can only re-trait their own weapons if only "they" have the traits researched. you cannot re-trait someone's bound armor/weapons.

so crafters making money on this sounds like not going to happen. unless I am missing something.

This update is applying value to crafters which many of us have suggested was lacking.
This meaning...there is an increased value being added to BEING a crafter, not value being added to the market for using other crafters.

It aligns with the options of doing crafting professions, crafting writs, researching traits and the passives there within.
This resolves complaints about the need or feeling that one needed to grind dungeons for X item and trait as well as it resolves the loot table issues largely.

I will go as far as suggesting that those who have investing into crafting would be overjoyed, however those who have not will feel a new form of pressure or a grind.

Later, when the transmogrify feature is added, in how its remarked, that suggests some level of motif requirement may apply, therefore......pick a character and start crafting.

Lastly, it adds increased pressure or influence to buy crowns that would allow someone to purchase motifs. Considering the crown store changes, this all seems to align under a new focus.

What's missing is ESO Plus changes that were suggested with Morrowind to be more coming other than the bank space.
