Customize Your Item Traits
The Clockwork City DLC game pack and Update 16 also introduce the all-new Transmutation system, allowing you to change the traits on your gear, including weapons and armors.
In order to Transmute an item, you must locate a Transmutation station and have the item trait researched in your crafting Skill Line. This means if you'd like to add the Sharpened trait to your dagger, you must first ensure you have the ability to craft daggers with that trait. You'll be able to find a Transmutation station in the heart of the Brass Fortress within the Clockwork City or acquire one for your home from a certain Master Writ merchant.
In addition to the crafting skill requirement, Transmutation requires a special new resource called Transmutation Crystals that you'll need to collect and save. You'll be able to earn Transmutation Crystals by completing veteran level content (such as Veteran Mode Dungeons or Trials).
We're very excited to introduce this new crafting system, so keep an eye out for more information on Transmutation in the future!
Somehow I have a feeling this is limited to craftable gear.

It sounds as if these stones will be bound on pickup, which will give a nice little income boost to crafters.
Sounds great, thanks for listening ZOS!

ok question here. Lets say your buddy has BOP spinners fire staff that has crap trait. and you are the master crafter. how are you going to change his weapon's trait?
Based on what I am reading .. people can only re-trait their own weapons if only "they" have the traits researched. you cannot re-trait someone's bound armor/weapons.
so crafters making money on this sounds like not going to happen. unless I am missing something.

I imagine in that scenario, the way to make things work is for your buddy (presuming he hasn't learned any traits yet) to learn the trait he wants, that 1st trait goes quick no?, then they can buy the station, if its not bound. depending on prices of the stations, may or may not be worth it?

@CavalryPK you won't be able to help your friend in that situation, his best shot is just to learn the traits he need the most first, those are pretty fast to get. And how crafters are going to make gold out of this, depends on if gear gets bound after retraiting, if it does, well they won't be able to.

It seems like this system could easily be extended to styles. So it'll probably be an addition down the line, like poisons were to alchemy.
