Syrabane's grip + Vampire Cloak All stats in increase max mag, frost staff and resto staff, 1 chudan

Any thoughts?

Scratch Vampire Cloak use Robes of the Hist instead. go all light, (except maybe 1 heavy) and have all sets in sturdy.

If you are a warden, take Harness Magicka, Living Trellis, healing thicket, Ice Fortress, and Crystallized slab, and you will be a perma block frost staff magicka tank... even with low health

Strongest magtank will be sorc due to huge selhealing. You can easily get to 3k per second self healing at all times.

Damage dealt, but you can lay down wall of frost and liquid lightning to proc maim and off balance, while your lightning form is up. Permablocking, you have 3 hits per second.

Also food for thought, blocking doesn't reduce damage done to shields, only health.

did not know that (mostly cause I avoided magicka builds up until now... 3 years later)

You might consider Bloodthorn over Syrabane due to getting back both magicka AND stamina.

I thought about Bloodthorn, but if you want to be the permablock tank, Syrabane works better. Especially as a warden, Syrabane + Betty netch = never run out of magicka. Pair that with all armor in sturdy and frost staff = permablock magicka tank

True. I also forgot that you said you were using a frost staff. Bloodthorn would be better for a magicka tank using sword and shield.

On a side note, I set up my magicka DK to tank vet dungeons with 5pc Armor Master, 5pc Bloodthorn, and 2pc Grothdar. 5 light/2 heavy, Sword and shield both bars. The goal was to make a tank that could also deal some DPS in PuGs, since they can be unreliable. Haven't tried it out yet, though, but it could be fun.

I made a stamina tank/dps with s/b and bow, she doesn't have a good set of armor, but even then, she can do most non-DLC vet dungeons.

mDPS stack for max magicka. Tanks build for a different approach. Tanking gear is often for the benefit for the group and/or to add health and to a degree other stats. It irrelevant of a tank being magicka or stam based.

It is not about how much one has of the stat they use for blocking. It's about resource management. A fight of any decent length will drain any tank of their resource pool if they don't work to manage it.

Of course, for most 4 man dungeons it almost doesn't matter what the tank wears.

True that. So if I choose to continue on this path with a purely magicka focused tank, consider having a set that benefits the group rather than just myself?

In other words, would you rule out Syrabane's Grip + another self-serving tanky set for 2 tanky sets that would be beneficial for the group? Or could I go Syrabane's Grip + 1 tanky set that is beneficial for the group?

A little bit more feedback is nice. Consider this forum post as a theory-crafting session.
