Why would they do that? It would mean everyone would switch to one alliance to make it dominating and lopsided. You could technically do that already, but you'd need to start a character from scratch all over again.

If actually given a choice to buy an option to switch sides, it would create too much imbalance.

Because if you create your first few characters with random alliances and later try out PvP and notice that all your guildmates are different alliances or that you don't like the alliance that you chose months ago when you just made your first character you are basically screwed forever.

As stated above, start a new char or get into another guild. IF which i hope will never happen we get a alliancechange token option pvp is over.

Sounds reasonable to me and a lot easier than it would have been in the past.

Before One Tamriel, your alliance also determined your main quest order and which server you played in. Now that all alliances share zones and you can go anywhere you wish and experience the three alliance stories however you please, the only place where alliance seems to matter is Cyrodiil.

If they put a cooldown and an AP cost on it, it'll limit excessive side switching. I'm sure they could find a way to prevent potential exploit of seasonal rewards too.

I stated it before, I shall do so again...

If alliance change ever comes, I would want to see it done the right way, meaning not merely a token that pops you over to other alliances, but an DLC with an neat questline that has an "faction loyalty called in question" theme, and a big choice in the middle - will your character stay loyal to their home alliance, or defect for greener pastures, with the second half (or two thirds, or three quarters, or whatever) being different depending on the choice made - either you quest your way through proving your innocence and finding the real traitor, or you quest your way through preparing your escape while evading the agents sent to bring you in... bonus points for familiar faces, I mean, who would not enjoy slamming a porticullis shut into Razum-dars face as you give him a jaunty wave while you jump onto a boat bound for morrowind with Naryu... ;)

Of course, there ought to be some drawbacks as well.
For one, such an quest should require completion of cadwells (or at the very least the mainstory) as prerequesite, to avoid storyline entanglements - it would make a perfect final reward for completing that one, would it not? Much better then merely some trinket from Meridias tourist shop...
For another, there might be some added consequences in PvP, due to the "traitor" status... like, say, defectors only gaining half AP for the next six months (because noone completely trusts a traitor, not even the ones he betrayed his country for), while being worth triple AP if killed by a member of their original faction... perhaps even with a daily "get the traitor" quest available, and all defectors highlighted with a special icon in cyrodil during the "transition period"... you know, because...
    star-wars-traitor-gif-13.gif
    :p;)

There could also be nifty titles depending on which way you chose to complete this questline - either "{original faction} Loyalist" or "{original faction} Defector"...

Of course, in addition, there might be an very, very expensive crown store service token to change alliances, for those who really, truly despire playing through any questings... or serial defectors; that one might allow unlimited alliance changes, but shouod cost a LOT, say, 5000 crowns or so... to keep people from being all silly about it (because if they choose to be silly at those prices, they are just financing content for all the rest of us, and we will bear the sillyness... ;) )

I don't see why it would be a problem. All the quest lines are the same level now. Just a flag on the character that needs changed nothing else matters in the least.

This would make sense if the Alliances were political organizations like some modernnation states in the "Western Hemisphere".

From Canada down to Chille nations are based on a mix of people being under a government together.

But the Alliances are actually a grouping of a given set of three species or sub-species.

This is beyond even a tribal switch like going from England to France...

If you are a Khajiit, and you run off to join the Orcs... this is not a minor thing. This is deciding to war against your own species. It is a human joining the wolves to go take out humanity...

Even the "any race in any alliance" option in character creation is kind of weird when you realize from a "character point of view" what choice has been made.

From a game point of view it might be a good idea. But any quest line or lore to support it will have some serious "why is that spider now fighting on the side of the pigeons" flaws...

For the humans... it would be tribal. So you can fit lore and quests to that. For the elves - are they just erhnic groups or actual sub species? My understanding is they were sub species. So it is "why is the dog now with the wolves?" - complicated but viable.

For the others... this is a conflict of species level importance.

    NO
you put in the grind, the xp, the effort to earn your place in your alliance.
if you cant put in the effort, you shouldnt be granted exemption from more effort.
if youve joined a guild that isnt your native alliance, you can always make a new toon and get that toon up to level 50(making new toons is soo easy now that cp carries over) and even have your guild mates help.

If you're in some sort of contact with your guildmates, you would know (would want to know) what Alliance they play before starting PvP.

However, if we were to take this comment at face value, it's super easy these days to level a new character to 50.

At any rate, "no" on an Alliance change token. It would create too much imbalance and players seeking the flavor of the week rewards in Cyrodiil.

I'd be OK with this. I think it fits more in the category of quality of life / convenience items, not "pay 2 win".

If some player out there wants to pay for tokens to keep switching alliance multiple times, it wouldn't hurt other players, just end up helping to subsidize costs for everyone else.

I do think it should reset alliance rank back to zero of course, with loss of corresponding skill points.

I would personally ask ZOS for a change. As in a ticket. They might give you a change with a valid reason.

..But as in a purchaseable in the crown store? THAT'S what would create mass imbalance in faction population.

Sorry, but with the option to buy the adventurer's pack (or whatever it was called) where you got to create a character with any race, in any alliance, this doesn't hold too strongly. My first character is a Khajiit who fights for EP. I also have a Wood Elf and a Redguard that fights for EP. Again, the game has allowed for any race in any alliance since beta.

But people can already make characters in every alliance. If they wanted the flavor of the week in Cyrodiil, all they'd have to do is change characters.

This would have been a good thing to temporary release when One Tamriel came out, Majority of my toons were DC and I had 1 EP and 1 AD just in case I couldn't unload the items i was trying to sell in the DC areas I would transfer them to my EP or AD toons. So when One Tamriel came out I had to restart 2 toons from the beginning

I cant see the harm in alliance changes as long as there are some limitations to it. My proposal:

    - 1st alliance change for free, because people truly might have leveled in PVE, then swap to PVP and realize they dont like the alliance they are stuck with or their friends are playing another colour.

    - Then put a "seasonal cooldown" of 3 months to any further alliance change and add a fee in AP (100-500k)

I would highly recommend to go back to the "one alliance per campaign"-idea again, though. On EU at least, there is a huge tendency of emp-swapping (or trying, at least) between EP and AD right now, with a good third of AD relogging to their EP chars for a push and vice versa. Its a sorid game-breaker and uttlerly destroys the idea of 3 alliances fighting each other for the win.

I would happily pay crowns for an alliance change token but think it should also be limited to once per character per year.

Not to mention, to fit the any alliance and any race. If my memory serves me correct. There is this Orc, in one of 2 enemy factions; in Imperial City. I really want to say, He, this Orc; is in EP base of Imperial City. You could ask why, this Orc is on EP. Orc will tell you why, he on EP. (or AD, I really want to say EP though.)

Eventhough this is from 2015. There was a former guild (role playing) For loyal EP Orc's. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/154324/ebon-orsimer-recruiting-all-ep-loyal-orcs
