We bother with PTS so that it gets changed on patch day. The changes made today reflect the testing and feedback we gave.

That is pretty much the entire point of the PTS. Have players try the content, make comments, find bugs, allow ZOS to test the enviroment etc so they CAN make changes

Unpopular opinion: most feedback should be ignored, as it isn't very good.

And I don't know how you can say ZOS doesn't want feedback, given that the vast majority of the substantive changes in this patch are in response to player feedback.

Mothers sorrow nerf hurts a bit, had my mind set on using it for builds but now I gotta figure out how to replace it. They also changed up shadow on us last minute too, adding even more challenge to creating builds, they should've left stuff mostly the same from 3.1.4, they didn't seem to have anything major to fix there from the patch prior but suddenly either all the fun stuff we found needs a nerf or the stuff they already nerfed needs and even bigger nerf (thief)...

I think the patch notes look pretty great all things considered. Eagerly anticipating servers getting back online. I do see how this patch was pretty heavily focused on balances though and would be less interesting to people involved in other aspects of the game like housing and such. Im sure your update is coming. A big balance patch has been needed for a long time, far before housing was a thing. Give it some time, ZOS may be slow (really slow sometimes), but they do get around to things.

I k ow it is hard for some people to understand but PTS is not intended to change much. I'll make a list:
    1. Is it a major bug that breaks gameplay? No, move on
    2. Is it something very overpowered? No, move on
    3. Nothing left for limited testing to fix

Minor issues and imbalance are unimportant to the tiny testing sizes for a PTS, even in more popular games.
Housing is irrelevant unless there is an exploit or something is working as not intended. Most complaints I sawfor housing were preference. Your preference is not ZoS's priority

That's a bunch of ***, they got a lot of positive feedback, a lot of stuff was very viable, diversity was there. Then they decided to nerf the mundus stones and traits and make it so it's just going to be 1 thing better than all.
The devs are truly among one of the worst I've seen, they don't communicate these changes and they go against what the community was actually looking forward for in a very long time.

This patch was headed in a great direction, easily *** up and missed a good thing.

What's more, the devs are going against what they themselves have said they were going for in this patch: enabling player choice by increasing the viability of diverse options in PVE. After nearly a month of raising hopes that this would happen, they decided without any explanation to maintain the old single-BIS system that they've had. It's frustrating and mystifying.

My best guess is that they didn't want to maintain a single-BIS system, they saw that crit + Shadow was a favored setup on virtually all builds, and feared that the emerging crit meta was such a single-BIS system. They then overreacted, didn't do the math, and ended up cementing such a system even further.

Maybe that's not charitable, but since they aren't talking to us, I don't know what else to think.

Right. The point of PTS, primarily, is to test that the stuff ZOS have done actually works. There is a reason it's a Release Candidate build and not a Beta build. Release Candidate means major changes to things will usually only be made if there is a fatal error in the content.

No, you were right, for what you said.

We bother with PTS so that the final cut, which we don't get to see before it comes out, has adequate feedback so that the developers have the information they need to make the final tuning decisions before release. Normally, ZOS takes a mixture of feedback, PTS monitoring, and QA evaluations and does whatever it is they do for that last build. That last build is usually "stay the course" a lot more than "rock the boat".

What seems to be more of a mystery is what ZOS was doing with PTS, this time. Normally, PTS starts off with a train wreck, followed by weeks of people hoping that ZOS fixes it, followed by weeks of complaining that ZOS never listens. This time, ZOS reserved the train wreck for the final update, and bypassed PTS completely.

By all appearances, the Combat Team was not prepared for PTS. It seems like they were weeks behind schedule and rushing to get things into the Update before the deadline.

I am sorry but the changes do not at all reflect what has been tested in the previous 5 weeks. The PTS was as close to balancing ESO as it has ever been. BIS was quite situational and even if you didn't have BIS your DPS was only off by a narrow margin. Now, Warrior and Apprentice are king, we have no clue what sets are good or bad, weapon traits need to be tested further but it seems nirn and infused are bis, oh and infal is the king of all unless zos changes their "error" of giving the 5 pc 2 bonuses.

So no, I respectfully disagree about these changes reflecting anything we've been testing on the PTS.

Actually, I DIDNT mess with the PTS this time. Learned a lesson with Morrowind. They react to issues with 100 posts or more, MAYBE, if its something they really wanted feedback on. Then, MAYBE it will be changed by the next update.

Game design is not a democracy nor should it be. Most people complaining here are just laymen, the devs are game designers. Players always want more power, most are too invested in the game themselves to assess rule changes. I'm actually glad this is one of the few games where it's not just the angry internet mob deciding what gets patched.
But somehow random youtubers and forum users know best.
