^That moment when you don't understand how stats work in this game....
The only place where this change is positive is in PvP, yet you'll still see those Pet builds that are broken in 1v1s since the inherent issues are untouched.
As for PvE, this set is now outclassed by other DPS sets which do not have a requirement for a living pet to be active.
Best example possible of listening to QQ instead of buffing the many sets that are completely trash. This change change will kill this set for any PvE build I would've used it for. Going from 4000 to 3150 is a massive nerf that even negates the 2/3/4 piece buffs.
To put this nerf in perspective:
People do not use Draugr Hulk, yet it doesn't even have a pet requirement. Necropotence has a serious requirement, yet now gives almost the same amount of stat bonus as Draugr Hulk. Moreover, the total Max Magicka increase is now a net loss from the value provided in Morrowind.
It was already tough to run this set. Next patch, it doesn't seem like there will be a reason to run this set anymore over the already new meta combo: Mother's Sorrow+Julianos.
Simply put, in HotR a Magicka Sorc would run
1x Ilambris/Iceheart+5x Mother's Sorrow+5x Julianos as the "BiS" build (according to every test right now besides the bugged Torug's Pact/Infused combo that just got fixed). Necropotence could replace one of these sets if a pet was used.
With this nerf, there is no need to use Necropotence at all, since the DPS will be the same (or less) and your pet can also die, leaving you with no 5-piece beneft and causing a large DPS loss.
......we will see. Not happy about this right now, especially with such of a massive nerf. It looks to me like there will be a singular "best" PvE DPS build in HotR now for most classes thanks to how ZOS is having a handful sets be even more powerful for PvE instead of buffing the weak sets.

And watch how mother sorrow gets nerfed soon

That moment when maybe you should of kept all those videos of soloing dungeons under wraps.
If losing 850 magicka breaks your build well what can I say. Only my buff needs to be active, Blue Betty which you want to keep up anyway.
Why I mainly PvP any way.

I don't mind less people using Necropotence, means less dd's pets will pull agro from the boss during trials and cause the group to wipe.
I use necropotence, and will continue to use it. Change is OK IMHO.
Yeah, a spell damage/crit set will(and should) generally mean more damage, cos necro is close, but also gives more survivability.

I spent a crapton of time farming 5 sets, four of which are getting nerfed with the next update. And I spent 685k on 2 Necro staves only 2 days ago, and golded them immediately. 685k may not sound a lot to you but it is for me. So yeah. Not happy, Jan.
"(Nerfs are) the nature of MMOs!" I hear you say. Well, I play to have fun. Farming is not fun when the drop rates are so abysmally low - even with the upcoming trait changes. And then when you've spent all that time farming or all that gold buying and then all those mats upgrading, BAM. You start wondering why you should keep playing.
I'm not prone to histrionics but I am getting very close to rage quitting permanently.

Because now, it's a straight up dps loss to use in PvE.
In PvP, you're right, it's too small to make a real difference in why you use it

And they nerfed it because of PvP.
Classic ZOS...
Its not like it suddenly makes the set trash..
Its still a strong set. A loss of 850 magica isn't gonna suddenly mean you can no longer defeat a boss that you could last week. Yeah, it may not be bis anymore, but how much difference does it really make? How much longer will it take you to defeat that boss.? 3 seconds?, 5?
(will probably really be quicker due to 2-4 piece buffs and pet buffs and more CP... but hey.)
Seriously, this forum makes it sound like the end of the world.
