Buffs/Debuffs - what is additive vs multiplicative

Is there somewhere a comprehensive overview for the dummy what works additive and what multiplicative - this still is quite confusing to me - i know there were some changes with Morrowind?

So most buffs are additive from the base value?

Damage mitigation on the other hand is multiplicative i think?

Is it fair to say that it's usually either what delivers the worse result for the player so not to make overpowered builds possible?

Cheers

Its on a case to case basis. As far as I know Beserk, Slayer, Brutality, Sorcery, Intellect, Endurance, Fortitude, Protection, Aegis and Toughness are all buffs that are multiplicative.

Mending, Vitality, Force, Evasion, Ward, Resolve, Savagery, Prophecy, Heroism and Expedition are all additive.

And non unique buffs are on a case to case too. Some are flat values that are additive and some are percentage buffs that can be either or.

And so no, the last statement you made is not always true, since the damage and recovery ones are all multiplicative to the advantage of the user.

It really is on a case-by-case basis...some things are additive and some are multiplicative and it tends to change in major updates as they fix bugs and balance things.

You can see how all stats are computed by using our build editor. Click the "..." for a stat on the right hand side of the screen to see the detailed formula and how everything is used. Note that in general buffs will use the "Buff.X" bonus slot but some buffs are special and may be considered as item or set bonuses.

@paulsimonps When did you check it the last time?
I'm pretty sure slayer and other buffs to damage done are additive. Otherwise we wouldn't have to discuss this (beware, contains Math and German^^)
And recovery buffs have also been additive the last time I tested it. (But not sure if that was pre or past Morrowind)

You know what, you are right, I was thinking wrong, early for me.... But in the case of Slayer, I am pretty sure could be wrong though. Recovery I did wrong on though as said, was thinking early morning thoughts. I would read all that but I skipped out on all my german classes, so never did learn it

But damage mitigation is still multiplicative?

Honestly, the non-consistency is the one thing i find the most confusing about eso... i think gw2 handles this much better

The so "non-consistency" is for balance reason. And most things does make sense for what they are a certain way. Just got to test out what is what.

I uderstand its for balancing - bt its bad design - it would be much better to keep a stringent logic but adjust values... again look at gw2 - its easy to understand and stringent...the mechanics are simply much better thought out

Anything with "damage done" is additive. This includes Slayer, Berserk, Champion Points, and both active and passive executes.

Mitigation sources are multiplicative. So your resistance is multiplicative with Champion Points as well as Protection.
