Guild Tabard System - What Are Your Thoughts?

I had no idea they even existed (been playing about 6 weeks or so). I belong to 5 guilds, so how am I supposed to choose which one to represent? When I played Guild Wars 2, the guild earned points for every action I performed while playing and some guild owners got real pushy about why aren't I representing. Creates issues. I just joined a trading guild and I'm real happy about that, but the others are pretty much of no benefit to me so far. Other than being able to ask for help with a difficult quest or doing dungeons (which I haven't done any yet), I would ask, what benefit is it to belong to a guild?

I have no problems with the tabards, but they are expensive. I don't tend to wear them on all characters. They should offer more patterns and images, though.

Think it should be more customization options, and guild banners for the house

I hate the way they fit on my characters. Also every single tabard has colors that clash with what colors I want to wear.

    So I wear a costume!

I love that the game gives me the option of wearing a guild tabard. I'm always a fan of more appearance options.

That being said, there are two reasons I don't like ESO tabards that ultimately leadS to me NOT wearing them:
    1. The tabards are shaped like Old English (medieval knight) tabards, and are extremely dull, and unoriginal. They remind me too much of WoW's tabards. Just bland. It doesn't even look like "CLOTH" material.
    2. All the guild icons suck. They are simplistic looking, lack detail, and there is not a single Icon that appeals to me so much that I'd use it to cover my highly detailed, badass looking armor.
    3. P.S. I would rather have had CAPES. I would never take my cape off.

Seriously, bland, and not worth covering your highly detailed armor. In such a highly detailed game in which we can see the stitching of various clothing, the tabards do not look like cloth. They look like a sheet of paper.

The absence of capes in this game is disheartening. No reason we shouldn't have them.

The tabard should be hideable in the same way your helmet is.

I do the same too. That's one thing I like about the costume - it hides tabards and armor that attempt to ruin the reputation of the wearer. I know there are others who want to wear their tabard over their costume, so perhaps this could be another option made available too.

I don't mind the guild name displayed in the name-tag, but I don't want to see it covering my clothes/armour.

The costume works well in the way that it hides undesirable armor and tabards. It would be great if we had the option to hide the tabard without the use of a costume, but also to equip it over a costume for those who desire to do so. That way we have more options to represent our guild in our own way.

I do like the idea of having capes as guild tabards. Also shields could carry the guild design. Neither would interfere with the look of the rest of the armour, apart from clashing colours!

Is it surprising to you that people don't wear them? I loved my guild (RIP) but never felt any interest in advertising that fact.

Enjoy, no judgment here. Just not my cup of tea.

Maybe an option to add a symbol to existing armour would be better. Or even better yet, remove the tabard system and let us choose whether to display our guild name in name tags options..

Haha this is so true! These are some great ideas you've mentioned! It would be cool to add symbols to armor and display guild name tags without the use of tabards (the same way you can select your character's title).

Those sort of armor-mounted banners (I don't know what to call them) that the Fighters in Dragonstar wear would make for some awesome guild-themed apparel if we could customize them and wear them ourselves.

i think this is interesting- because i play on both servers - back and forth pc EU and pc NA - and have for the past year and a half. on the EU the first thing i noticed with regard to giulds- is that players represent guilds far more strongly and proudly. I'm not sure why that is- but if u got around craglorn EU- you ll see most players above cp300 wearing tabards, and representing. on the NA- its less so.
in fact upon joining my 5 EU guilds- 3 of them- the leaders gave me 10k to buy the tabard upon joining.
speculate what you will- feel free to make cultural and racial dispersions. but just something interesting.

This is definitely interesting! I only play NA PS4 so I wasn't aware of this or even considered cultural differences as a factor. Thanks for pointing this out!

I've been in 4 of my guilds for over 2 years, but I do not wear the tabards. One reason is I'd have to pick one guild (and I love all those 4) and the other reason, many tabard aesthetics are very unappealing (sorry guys, I got a particular sense of what colours and patterns each of my characters will wear).

I guess that's one of the downsides of our current guild system (I sense another poll coming ). Being a member of multiple guilds has its positives but also has its negatives too. One of the negatives is guild 'loyalty'. Of course loyalty in itself is not a negative, but guild mates from one guild may see wearing another guild's tabard as an act of disloyalty. I feel this is a result due to the nature of our current guild system. Loyalty is definitely a valid factor as to the reason why players may choose not to wear their tabards. Thanks for bringing this up!

How players think of the tabard system does not necessarily affect if they will wear one or not.

Personally, I like the guild tabard system, however, I am not interested in wearing one. I like the costume or armor I have on costumes and are not interested in having a tabard over them. It is very likely the same reason a number of player have. There is a reason costumes are sold in the crown store.

I like the system, I don't like the colors. Maybe players could customize their tabard's color but not its symbol?

This is a cool idea - being able to represent your guild as well as customising the tabard to suit your particular style. B)

I mostly wear a costume, as I can't (yet) have the armour style of my choice. One of the main drawbacks of the Guild Tabbard system is that tabbards and costumes don't mix.

I'd like to see some other options, too, beyond the basic tabbard. Either way, there's too much clipping around armour for them to be particularly useful right now.

Clipping is definitely an issue. Long hair that flaps through shields, heavy imperial pauldrons that look beast but goes through my face etc. :s

Bring on some fresh tabard designs!!! :D

I would love the ability to put our guild symbol on a shield and for our horses to have tabards.

Also if there were different places the tabards could go. Scarves, banners, painted pauldrons with guild symbols.

I'm also very fond of the toga style robes that both mages and vigilants of Stendarr wear in skyrim and wouldn't mind some of those over my armor.

We also really need transmog system. Maybe more people would wear tabards if they weren't too busy wearing costumes to hide their hideous armor

I really like the ideas you mentioned! :) I especially like the idea of being able to add tabards to our horses/mounts. We already see the alliance mounts have them, so surely it can't be much of a stretch to don our mounts with guild tabards.

I would simply like for incentive for poeple to wear them.

But this is closely related to guild tools and activities that should be added to the game.

F.e. Guild quests: finish X trial with all members wearing your tabard.

You make a great point! :) Apart from representation and aesthetics, there aren't any other reasons (that I can think of) to wear a guild tabard. Incentives would be a great way to encourage players/guild members to represent their guilds.

As has been mentioned, the icon selection is outdated and sucks. The graphics are subpar. The colors are limited, dull, and suffer the same issues as the dye system (they don't dye correctly), they can't be used with/interfere with costumes and armor. The system needs an overhaul.
People should be able to choose a shield emblem, small waist flag option, full on tabard after purchase so they can choose how it interacts with their armor/costume and not just be stuck with a giant intrusive apron.

They need to correct the way the colors apply and add more options. They library of symbols needs improvement.

I'd wear my tabard a lot more if it actually showed my armor underneath. Any dlc armor sets just show as black quilted armor under a tabard.

I'd appreciate that issue fixed and guilds should have the option of having guild heraldry shield costumes, guild homestead decoration banners and guild heraldry barding on mounts.

Not holding my breath though. ZOS seem more interested in coloured hair and PVP 'balance' nerfs on PVE than on giving players what they want.
