[BUG?] Pacifistic Character - Skill Line not visible

I try to play a "pacifistic" Character: Never do any damage.
I equipped a Restoration Staff, but the skill line stays hidden. I can't use the skills of the Restoration staff.
Nevertheless I already leveled up this "Restoration Staff" skill line multiple times through quests and exploration, which gives me the impression of a "visibility bug".

So far I tried:
- Gainig XP through battles (in a group - I just heal), quests, exploration
- Using the staff to block

I did not:
- Attack anything with the staff (my theory: unlocking weapons skills is linked to attacking)

I'd expect:
- Either unlocking the weapon/armor skill line directly after equipping
- Or showing the skills after gaining *ANY* XP with the item equipped. Or maybe a certain amount of any XP.
- Or one "hidden" Level-Up of the skill line (which is essential the same as "a certain amount of any XP")

Wtf...... I think I just went through the 'what the hell was that' barrier...

It's a combat system, skill lines only open up when you kill things, no way around it now

If you had read the morrowind patch notes you would know it's not a bug, but a (in my opinion unnecessary) change to not confuse new players with too many options:

Newly-created characters will now have all skill lines hidden except for the 3 from their class, the goal being to improve a new player’s experience by reducing the initial number of skill line choices to a more manageable number.
Skill lines will now unlock when your character takes specific actions.
- Armor skill lines unlock when you equip 3 pieces of a given armor type (light/medium/heavy).
- Weapon skill lines unlock when you get a killing blow while the weapon is equipped.
- Crafting skill lines are unlocked when you visit the appropriate crafting station.
- Your racial skill line unlocks at level 5.
- The AvA skill lines now unlock when you gain Alliance Points.
- Other skill lines will continue to unlock as they did previously, such as the Mages Guild skill line when you join the guild.

It's a very unique problem, but that's the joy of this game!

A solution could be to attack an inanimate object. I cant think of Any bar something like the crystals at the end of Maelstorm which obviously don't help. But there must be other things, I'm sure the community would know

Maybe the anomaly crystals in Craglorn? One attack and run before the boss comes..

It's still damage but I'm assuming you mean damage to living things as a RP thing

Yea, they should change it to make it unlock when you get a killing bow or earn XP with it.

That having been said, killing blows include everything, even "critters" (the non-hostile creatures with under 10 health points, such as mice, beetles, deer, etc.).

Killing a cute little critter would be even worse then shooting at an evil enemy!

A training dummy maybe...

It's still odd, because I did get XP for "killing" while in a group. But this seems not the count as "killing blow". Too bad they changed it that way. So I'm just too late...

Training dummies should work. It'd be a bit tedious since they have 3M health.

Read a skill book? My Warden has the Dual-Wield and Bow skills unlocked, despite having never equipped these weapons.

This would be easier if there were any Restoration Staff books in the game, of course. For some reason there seem to be 10 Destruction Staff books and 0 Restoration Staff books, rather than 5 Destruction and 5 Restoration Staff books.

Necroing this to say that destroying a focus crystal works but unfortunately counts as a "humanoid creature" for some stupid reason so it ends up looking like you have one kill under the "Humanoid Slayer" achievement. Pretty bloody stupid if you ask me. Might submit it as a bug and see where I get to.
