It is amazing how much skill and strategy this game requires.
What are some tips for running the veteran mode next?

Be a ranged, preferably magica, dps. This arena is in no way made for low dps and melee characters. While it is possible to complete it in normal mode, the ground effects combined with the required amount of mobility and ranged enemies mean you would have a much harder time as melee compared to ranged.

You've finished it in Normal ? GG

If you want to see what happens next in vet mode here is a video (in french and old sorry), but you can see the mechanics. (don't use this stuff with a sorc, it's old school)

Make sure you don't have high blood pressure already, because it'll be through the roof by the time you finish your first veteran run.

vMA is for some (myself being one) a real challenge which frustrates you a lot. My advice would be to take the sigils as much as you can to clear it, as you get more runs you'll find you need them less.
Read some tactics and watch some videos about how people handle difference stages (the ice, poison and final being the ones people get stuck on most).

If you do find you're hitting and wall and stressing out, go take a break and come back afterwards. You'll suddenly find that you'll clear the part you were stuck on.

    I remeber my first run,

Had thrown controller away. Aftet 5 hours of fight with vma last boss, was soo pissed!

On my 2nd run was stuck on 5th stage final boss, took me 5 hours alone with soo much frustation!

Lots and lots of patience. Unfortunately the difference between normal and vet is quite big, so you have to learn the mechanics really well. Fortunately there are quite a lot of YouTube videos and some really nice writen guides you can use to familiarise yourself with the mechanics. You will need a bit of luck as well, there is some pretty nasty rng in there. I am looking at you stage 7 with your horrible rng poison plants. If you get frustrated, rather go take a break and do something you enjoy then come back and finish off that stage, pretty soon you'll wear your stormproof title and possibly a nice new weapon.

Let's just say that if you don't yet find nMA incredibly easy, don't even start vet. Seriously, vMA is like 100 times more difficult than nMA. The difference is really ridiculous to be fair.

TBH i found nMA hard at first! Because I never tried to learn anything about it... I just tried to kill everything that moved which only works up to a point. Now I get the title on my brand new characters :P I took my lvl4 magicka warden in & was lvl10 when I finished. lvl10 Maelstrom Arena Champion! LOL

If you wanna try vet, I would suggest to:

    - Not go in there expecting to get the best Maelstrom wep
    - Not to give up as you attempt it
    - Ask for help when you need it
    - Optimize your build to the max
    - Not to use Soul Gems at all
    - And lastly, expect to lose control over your bladder

    That is all

LOL. @Meld777 has beaten vMA several hundred times. He's (justifiably) bitter at vMA because of how many hundreds of runs it took for the RNG to yield his sharp fire staff.

My best advice for clearing vMA would be to actually listen to other people's advice. I know it sounds obvious but I've seen many times where people just refuse to follow advice on builds/mechanics (including myself when I first cleared it) and it really can make a big difference.

From your screen shot it looks like your DPS is probably pretty low so you'll need to beef that up. What kind of a build are you running right now? I think getting that ready for vMA should be the first thing you focus on. Vet is exponentially harder than normal. Like jumping over a crack in the sidewalk versus a dirt bike over the grand canyon while blind folded and doing your taxes harder.

Before joining the vMA elite scum team, u will need
    1. Food, drink and potions, both in game &real life, lots of them...lots
    2. Backup monitor, keyboard/mouse, or game pad, in case you have failed to control your rage...
    3. Tissue, so ur tear won't float you of of vMA
    4. Avoid putting sharpen object near yourself except your sharpen staffs(soon u won't need them)...you will be surprise how much u will hate urself over somethings...
    5. If u find urself in rage, sad, upset, disapperation, vomiting, crying, yelling or any sight of going berserk, go do something else and come back a day or a week or even a month later.
    6. Seek help from close one, friends or family, friends for build, setup, mechanics and rotation, family for emotion control and mental support. Do not follow the YouTube Vedio for build!
    7. Go to here, and pray like this is your last day!

Unfortunately normal mode does not in any shape, form, or suggestion prepare you for veteran mode. They just aren't even comparable on any level.

So if you thought normal mode took an amazing amount of skill and strategy - you may be looking forward to the same kind reception I had on my first attempt in VMA. And it wasn't pretty.

My tips on running veteran mode would be not to run it. It's frustrating, exhausting, annoying, repetitive, cheesy, and shuns any build that is not capable or large amounts of damage. It really is basically everything I can't stand about what I would consider shoddy gameplay combined into a single soul-melting experience. But good luck :)

Well this is America where we are free to disagree.

But I stand by what i said. All of it.

Let's let the OP try to beat VMA on a low dps build and then see what he thinks. ^^

We're allowed to disagree in Canada to though and vma is quite difficult you're going to have to get pretty good at healing and dpsing simultaneously. There's no epic build that will get you through your first time. Just got to die a lot and through repetition learn how to deal with it.

The most important thing to decide first as a sorc is for you: Do I want to complete the vMA with Magicka or Stamina Sorc?

Both is possible, I tried it and successfully completed it. If you have a minimum of 14k DPS, you will complete it. The more DPS, the better it is.

These things are very important in every stage of this arena:
    1. Learn where and when mobs will spawn and which mobs are more dangerous than other
    2. Use sigils when needed, no reason to save them (when you don't want to get into the solo-trial of the week)
    3. Have always a ward up (tip: Addon "Wardhelper"), so if you are Magicka = Magicka Shield, if you are stamina = Blade Cloak
    4. Make sure to have "Surge" on your bar (Sorcerer-Skill), this skill is OP in the arena
    5. Have enough patience
    6. Enough Buffood, pots, Soulgems
    7. NEVER stand in a red circle --> ouch

As a magicka char, just make sure to have your ward up, heavy attack.
As a stamina char you need more movement, but it's easier to run out of the red circles, just always Blade Cloak up and do it!

If you have further questions, don't be afraid, just ask!
