Dear friends,

I come to you a simple RP-PVPER, throughout my time on ESO (since beta) I have always wanted to be able to truly play the way the way I want to. Unfortunately the inner Min/Maxer refuses to play some races simply because they gimp me in PVP. I could make alts to RP with, but that simply breaks my immersion and back story I could build up for that character. I have found a solution! One that will add greater depth to everyone's ESO experience, but also promotes unique character building options and making you able to mold your character to your specific play style WITH OUT being forced to play a specific race!

The Plan:
In eso, you get a small cut scene in the beginning of your journey where Manimarco sacrifices you to his evil necromancer spooky plot. But honestly, What was your character doing before he was kidnapped? This is where we could improve racial passives. Choosing your characters background. The races could keep their unique passives for example; Argonians Potion passive and swimming speed. But the other 3 passives could be chosen from a pre-existing group.

Frequent objections and answers:
Objection: "But if you can choose your passives wouldn't you just pick the most OP ones?"
Answer: No, I am suggesting leaving the passives alone in their groups for the most part. I do not want you to chose all three passives individually. I want you to pick a GROUP of passives that go with what role you wish to play.

Objection: "Races should remain Unique. My high elf overlord should always be better then those disgusting Kajiit flee bags at magic."
Answer: I agree with races should remain unique. Im not suggesting removing the flavor of the races, High elf should keep elemental damage as its primary racial along with dunmer and its fire damage. I am suggesting detaching all the other passives (max magic, Stamina regen.... etc.) and placing them into a pool of groups to be chosen as your background.

Here is a photo example of how you would pick your back ground:

What do you guys think? Would you like to be able to customize your character more while also being able to look how you want? Or do you think the system is perfect with no need for improvement?

It definitely seems like ZOS has been adjusting racial passives since launch to allow more diversity for each race. I don't think you're going to see a big difference with what your suggesting because its mostly the passives you claim wouldn't change that really make the biggest difference. Even if Altmer had the capability of switching magicka regen to stamina regen, stamina builds will still pick Redguard 9/10 times because of the key racial passive. I do agree it would be nice to design your character independently from passive requirements of builds. But I think as long as people get min/max'y then you will always have this problem. So it becomes a question of giving up on racial passives being similar to the rest of TES series(kinda like what WoW does) or doing something drastic with resources. Unfortunately, this is a issue I doubt we will ever see a solution for. I suspect we will always have to decide between the race we want to be and the build we want to use to be min/max.

Makes me think of the early TES games like Daggerfall where you were asked questions at the beginning and your answers determined the skills and such you got. Would be fun for sure. I do however think in this age of internet it wouldn't work that way anymore. Someone would just post the answers needed to give the best passives. However if the group of passives you ended up with had 6-9 in them and those were random that would sorta work. Then you'd just have people reroll their toons endlessly till they got what they wanted and the forum world blow up with people angry that RNG was added to their characters creation

Nah, I mean you actually see what your picking, you just pick the passives that give you the best for what you need.

My character was a good-hearted hobo from the streets, just saving his gold up for a lute. Then he saw how crime ruled the streets of Windhelm, and decided to buy a sword instead...and now he's the NORD WITH A SWORD!

When I click on your picture it just takes me to an even lower quality image on an imgur page.

If I understand you correctly then sure why not. Zos will still charge you like they charge for a race change.

I'd prefer for racials to be removed than racials being choosable. An altmer should be more gifted than a redguard in magic

Yes you would see that you got, think something like the way birth-signs worked in Morrowind and Oblivion.
Something else would just be almost as idiotic as the current racial passives.
Signs would be easier as it would be 12 options, they also don't need to be very balanced.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Did you not read the post? I had a similar idea but it was additive. An addition to racial passives to allow for more diversity. It wasn't too popular but give it a read I thought I had a pretty good idea.

I think it's a great idea. I also think the people who are very comfortable or think they personally benefit from the way things are right now would completely freak out if it was added to the game. Epic levels of freak-out.

Classes that don't need any class ability nerfs: Nightblades, Dragonknights, Sorcs, Templars, Wardens.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand, racial passives have always given perks to different playstyles (including Elder Scrolls games prior to ESO- which as all of them? Except the card game...)

On the other hand- I think this would add to my personal enjoyment of gameplay mechanics. Better everyone run the same perks than the same race imo. At least races are diversity that you can see.

I'll stay on my cozy middle ground.
