What is the rationale behind single-use limited-time dyes?

Like honestly I'm dumbfounded that these continue to exist. I'm not buying some single-use stamp that I can only use on a costume, and only in a preset order. It's just not going to happen. It was never going to happen. I don't care how pretty or shiny the dye is, if it doesn't act like a normal dye I have exactly zero interest in purchasing it. You want to sell dyes, sell them as permanent unlocks. I'm pretty darn sure you'll make way more money that way than with this ill-conceived stamp idea.

*Edit : I'm talking specifically about the unique "Holiday" dyes that are unobtainable anywhere else in game. They should be available as permanent unlocks.

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

Sorry I should have specified better, I'm referring to the unique "holiday" dyes that are completely unavailable in game except via the stamps. Today they launched a red, a white, and a blueish-purple dye stamp and while they're great colors, they're not actually useful to me since they're not permanent unlocks and can't be used on my armor/have their color order changed around. Note I'm also not saying that I want dye stamps to be usable on armor. I just want these as permanent purchasable unlocks.

You cannot replicate the Witches' Festival dyes with existing dyes, it's a unique color. It also can't be used on armor and isn't available to you the rest of the year if you wanted a really nice orange War Maiden robe or something. If those dyes were available as permanent unlocks and usable like normal dyes you could do so much more with them.

There are other unique colours you cannot get in game, quite often, not just on holidays.

Though I think Runs meant the reason they continue to exist is because they are the only option for non-subs. So maybe you and I will never buy a one use stamp, but someone who has no other way to dye a costume may.

How often are we talking? I've only seen the ones corresponding to some IRL holiday like St. Patrick's Day and the Winter Solstice and such. I am flabbergasted that these are not available as permanent unlocks when there are tons of people who would buy them immediately if they were. Sure, some people buy stamps, but how many compared to who would buy them permanently? And more to the point, why not have both options? The people who won't buy stamps aren't going to budge, they might as well open up another market where they can make more money.

Don't worry, i agree with you. I'd LOVE to see permanent unlock of dyes. Of course these would have a higher price, but at least we could use them in any slot - plus use them on armor.

I have never bought crowns with cash so have no idea the actual cost of dye stamps, but wouldn't it be more cost effective just to get a single month of subscription? Then you could dye all your stuff whatever color you wanted and leave it that way.

    @NetViperX

I'm specifically talking about the unobtainable dyes such as what crop up around holidays, three of which were released today. I am ESO+ subscribed so I can already dye my costumes, and have nearly every dye that can be obtained normally. The problem with the holiday dye stamps is that you can't dye armor with them, they come in preset color orders, and they aren't permanent unlocks so if you are a normal person who likes to change their dye scheme frequently there's no reasonable amount of stamps you could buy to be worth it since you'll just change your outfit in a couple days anyway.

Whilst I dislike the concept of putting something as simple as a colour up for sale, it does come under the 'cosmetics and customisation' remit of the crown store pretty perfectly.

I love Orange... its my favourite colour.... all the orange dyes in the game are horrid, with the exception of '100 Pumpkin Orange' which was on a limited dye stamp last haloween and looks amazing!

I would have paid very happily to get that unlocked.

*Baby *** green permanent dye is not limited and is only 700 crowns!

I bought one of the dye stamps (a cheap one) for a costume and was more than a little unhappy to discover that it dyes only the costume of the character that buys it. Other characters have to use the costume in its original nauseous color. I won't make that mistake again. I understood that the preview showed the only way the costume could be colored and I checked the color scheme on all the costumes I had but I did think I was dying the costume not buying a dye stamp for the character. Boy, was I stupid and gullible.

You weren't stupid and gullible, the language is just unclear. In order to know that it isn't changed for all characters you would have to have read the specific article, forum comment, or AMA thread that mentioned exactly how it worked, as opposed to it being clear in the store itself. They have been getting better about communicating things like that but this is one area where it's still very unclear. I feel like it's not really been a huge issue because, it seems to me, that most of the people really into dyeing clothes and armor are ESO+ folks anyway who wouldn't need stamps except for exclusive colors.

It was actually kind of funny when they first announced costume dyeing because they led with dye stamps and you could cut the tension in the air with a knife, since basically nobody wanted that to be how you dye costumes. Then they switched over quick as can be to ESO+ costume dyeing and everyone was like THANK GOD. So now I'm stuck here with no way to buy the cool exclusive colors that will actually fit my needs as a fashion aficionado, so it's like I'm back at that first part of the announcement with the tension and the dye stamps, except all the time forever.
