Actually it does, because it reduces the number of players around me. I play MMOs because I like seeing other people do the same things as me.@all who said it's an MMO.. Where in MMO is the T for "Together"...
And also, i dont get the "No, you should not allowed to play solo, because..." : I allways ask myself, why does it bother you, if someone ELSE does something you wont even recognice in ANY WAY.

But mmorpgs have gone down the drain since 2011 and before because people want to be protected by other people.
Mmorpgs used to be open world. No safe zones.
You'd have to PvP to protect your farming zone.
You'd have to make Clan Wars in order to get that world boss.
You'd have to play with a group of people in order to achieve stuff, like gear guild halls, castles, epic drops, leveling.
Did someone kill you? Kill him
Did he bring a friend?
Bring yours.
Did he bring his Clan?
Open clan war.
Did he brought his alliance?
Make alliance wars and create the games STORY.
Now it's all ladderboards and Battlegrounds (cyrodill is a battleground)
When I did not want to play with other people I would buy Witcher 3, Dragon Age Inquisition, Dark Souls, Skyrim.
See, when I play Skyrim I dont expect the other Skyrimplayers to play with me, because thats what MMOs are for. It works both ways. If you play an MMO you play as part of a large community. When you play a Singleplayergame you play as one person alone.
Ok, thats the part with "ANY WAY". So your point is that others have to play it your way, because you dont want to be lonly. But there is still the point, that MMO dont mean ppl have to play together. But i do understand you, i dont like Skyrim, BECAUSE i am solo.

Exactly.
Ehm, we are not talking about the "RolePlayingGame"part, we are talking about the "MassiveMultiplayerOnline"part.Bombashaman wrote: »For the naysayers: So how many of you do the RPG since this is a mmoRPG game?

I played Final Fantasy XIV and loved it. I knew it was PvE and I went with it even though I am a hardcore PvPers.
Maybe you should be more understanding of what you are getting in instead of demanding changes that alter the nature of the genre.
FF XIV did a good job on serving PvErs and was a success by not trying to please all.
Gaming developers try to please ppl like you and mess things up.

Of yourse there can be mix and match, but not at the cost of the genredefining basics.
Having people around me while being the sole hero also never bothered me. Thats what my imagination is for. But I guess thats an experience-thing. I`ve been playing mmo`s for 20 years now.
PS: Someone mentioned GW1 as an example of a mmo that did it different. U played GW1, and the Solopart was godawful. No one liked it.

I really dont get what par of massive multiplayer can be seen as "massivemultiplayeronlywhenitsconvenientandeveryoneinvolvedwantstoonline"

I wouldn't base any business decisions on a poll in the ESO forums. Since when did the forums become so credible?
It kindda annoys me that people vote against something that won't even impact them if they don't want it to. I mean, the only thing you are accomplishing by voting no to it, is depriving someone of something they would enjoy (even though you might not). I personally wouldn't play in single player mode. Nevertheless, I am all for the idea, if it would make people who would enjoy such a feature happy.
While I respect your opinion I for instance would never play a game with mechanics like that, because even the thought literally puts me to sleep. Why would I play a singleplayergame online?Darkstorne wrote: »That's the worst argument against solo phases. Especially because modern MMOs (Destiny and the Division being key examples) push a system like this to support the game's narrative (sole hero). Lots of players encountered in group locations (dolmens, world bosses, public dungeons) but majority of exterior exploration, quests, and dungeons, are almost entirely solo. You will only occassionally be phased together with other players to reinforce the idea of a big open world where you are one of the few heroes. It would massively help ESO to keep player counts high in areas that are designed for them, and solo everywhere else.
