Over 10 Million Players?

Can anyone confirm this? I mean I just do not think this game has that kind of population, even across all 6 servers... Is there any hard data on current population? In all honestly if that is just total number of accounts created over the last 39 months that is pretty rough... I would be interested to see the raw data on current active accounts played in the last 3 months. Not the total amount of people that have played, and quit soon after due to bugs/balance/server performance/poor development.

They might just be counting total number of accounts. Maybe not even active accounts. I'd love to know the active users on a [x] day basis across all platforms, but I'm pretty sure they won't disclose that information for fear of turning away potential investors (or something, I've no clue).

Last year (or year before?) It was said there were 7 million accounts created, which I believe counted Xbox free trials. So since this number is now 10 million, I'd say it's accounts created, and not active players.

    Um, Bethesda just confirmed it?

They were at 8.5 sold units half way through last year, so they've sold 1.5 million since then: super impressive, going to hit 12 I reckon soon with Morrowind just releasing and getting pretty great word of mouth.

ESO, actually now looking like that WoW killer it was touted to be so long ago lol.

Could have been if the launch 3 years ago was different. If blizzard ran this company we would have 50m+ subs, and it wouldn't be free to play.

Of course they're only counting total accounts.

I'm guessing ESO's current population is around the same as GW2, if not a bit lower (since GW2 is F2P). That would be around 300-500k active accounts on PC. The population on each console is probably close to the same.

Lets be serious here. Have you any idea how many units WoW sold? To put things in perspective:
    The Burning Crusade - 2.4M
Wrath of the Lich King - 2.8M
    Cataclysm - 3.3M
    Mists of Pandaria - 2.7M
    Warlords of Draenor - 3.3M
    Legion - 3.3M

Well, you might say 'thats not much at all' and Ill say 'this is how much they sold on the FIRST DAY' ;) also it doesnt even include base game sales.

And this is not really a viable comparison anyway. We dont know how many people actually play the game. We could compare 'active eso+ accounts' to WoW subs. But we dont have those numbers either.

WoW had 12 million SUBSCRIBERS (aka active players) at its peak. No game will ever reach those numbers again, or get even close.

Judging by WoW's direction, you are right, no game will ever reach those numbers again. WoW included.

Yes, those numbers are real. They are combining the consoles and pc players though, which begs the question on how many pc and console players their really are but still, that is the real deal. There is 10 million players. Why do you think you can always find a toon in a zone questing/ exploring?
WoW had 12 million SUBSCRIBERS (aka active players) at its peak.
Active Subscribers does not equal active players. Most "subscribers" for mmo's like WoW tend to just leave their subscriptions running long after they stopped playing the game. I met alot of friends offline that did and still do, exactly that with that game.

Active player numbers is a different story but surprise, surprise. Blizzard stopped releasing "active player numbers" long ago. Unlike FFXIv and their census.

Looking at units sold on day 1 or any amount of time for expansions is stupid, Morrowind included - I would hazard to guess that atleast 90% of those weren't first time buyers - but established players who wanted to expand their experience. If they already had 3 million players, then it wouldn't be surprising for them to sell 2.4 million copies on day 1 between old and new players.

There's no way 10 million active accounts, it's for sure all accounts ever (even the many who have quit).

I'd say 500k is pushing it (on all platforms).

One thing to think is - they used the words "fight alongside players, friends, assassins, heroes" maybe they included all NPCs?
Not like there's millions of npcs but it's a possibility, you know immersion and all.

No, they actually announced 12M subs during Wrath of the Lich King.

Problem is, that number included S. Korean accounts, that use a different model. You buy prepaid time that works like prepaid phone cards there... You buy X hours of game time. If there's ANY time left, your account is active, even if you stopped playing.

    Pay attention to the wording.

Last year they claimed that the game had 7 million accounts.
    - They never specified if those accounts were active.
    - They never specified if those accounts were unique.
    - They never specified if those accounts were being counted without bot accounts or with.

This year they claimed 10 million players have experienced ESO.
    - They never specified if those players were active.
    - They never specified if those players were unique accounts.
    - They never specified if those players were counted without bot "players" or with.

Im willing to wager that I likely contributed to numerous counts of either the account or the player statistic. Because it looks better than if I had not been added in numerous times.

Ive bought ESO for myself a total of 3 times. 1 on PC, and 2 on Console. I also bought Morrowind twice...1 of which adding to the ESO count.

I also have 3 accounts total. 1 on PC, and 2 on Console. Currently my PC and my 2nd Console account are not active. But none the less they add up to 3 accounts and 3 players if ZOS is counting the way I believe they are counting.

Ive also bought the game for at the very least 3 other people. 1 of which I know for sure created an account.

Average number of ESO Steam players on at any time: 9,872:

    http://steamcharts.com/app/306130

Even factoring in non-Steam PC players and console players, there is NO WAY that 10 million people are currently playing ESO. They may have sold 10 million *copies* of the game over the course of its 3 years (including the four copies I bought). But 10 million people currently playing? No way.
