Racial skill lines or New Argonians can't swim

I made a warden character and went with Argonian because I've never made one. (side note: using the character creator on an Argonian was way more fun than on a human). I was really looking forward to the swimming speed boost. So as soon as I could I jumped in the water and... nothing. He didn't swim any faster than any of my other characters. It wasn't until a few levels in, that the racial skill line appeared in the skills menu and then the swimming speed increased. The young one had finally learned to swim.

Is that how it always was? I can't remember acquiring any of my other racial lines, they were just there from the start. I couldn't put any points in them until a few levels in but the skill line (and racial passive) itself was always there. Anyway, I thought this was an interesting side effect of the racial skill line appearing later.

Interesting. Took a little bit to learn to wag that tail.

Originally swim speed required a skill point once you reached an early level. Then they made it part of the free racial passive so you got swim speed at level one. With Morrowind they don't allow any racials to unlock (even the free one) until level five.

Racial skill lines changed with Morrowind a bit. They now don't show up until level 5, this includes that passive abilities. Armor lines require you to equip three of each type, and weapons require you to kill in order to unlock.

The devs felt that this would help clean things up for new players. Personally I think they tried to fix something that wasn't broken.

I don't get this change at all. A new player might want to look at the skills for each weapon trying to decide what to use. The reasoning I believe ZOS gave was so it won't confuse new players. This change doesn't make sense.

Skill line change happened when Zeni got bored at work and wondered what else they could do that makes no sense and would have literally no positive affect whatsoever.

Interesting. Took a little bit to learn to wag that tail.

You need to get to level 5 for the racial passive line to activate. Then it should work fine.

I see someone pointed that out.

should've had a look at the activity finder instead.. or other bugs and broken things that've been in the game for months, or years..

For some reason, they changed racials in Morrowind patch so you dont have any until lvl 5.

Actually they just hide them until you unlock them. Racial skills unlock at level 5 because that's when you can spend a point in it. All weapons are locked until you get a kill with them I believe or maybe any experience... not sure. Armor unlocks when you wear enough pieces of one type.

Why... who knows. They gave a reason but it doesn't make the least bit of sense.

Yup. And that also applies to the first racial passive, the one that you dont have to buy and that is unlocked by default (well, use to be unlocked).
Stuff like 1% extra exp or gold etc.
I don't understand why they decided to push this change, it only makes things more confusing. If I would be a new player, I would think that my char is somehow limited to my first weapon and armor set or something like this.

Because your soul has been ripped out of your body by... uh... the water, not Molag Bal, now. Your character doesn't remember how to be a member of their own race until they've leveled up enough.

But, hey, at least your character can't remember how to stay dead now, so there's that.

I do not know what they ve done with racials. But now racial skill line levels very strange. Earlier you char level equaled racial level. Now in the begining of leveling you racial is somewhat lower then char level and after 35-40 racial is higher then your char level (leveling new warden i've got 50 racial when my char was 47 lev)

Thats probably because they adjusted the amount of exp required to level up but didnt change the skill line progression. :\
