Sorc Pet Bug?

With recent changes in the new patch, pet AI has become... more frustrating?

Before you could easily keybind your pet and control it to attack certain targets or place them in a passive mode. This was extremely helpful in certain fights where you may not want your pets attacking certain targets or near certain things... or you simply wanted out of combat.

But now when you initiate a heavy attack with a channel i.e. lightning staff heavy it completely overrides your command.

See below for le video:

@ZOS_GinaBruno intentional?

Thoughts?

Would definitely help if this ootion could be turned on and off. There are certain instances where the heavy attack targetting is extremely helpful, but other instances where it renders certain stratefies completely useless...

Please give an option to turn off pet heavy attack targeting!

    It's horrible.

Yes, after looking more in the forums I've seen this mentioned quite a few times.

Either way, I agree that this should be completely optional.

    The targeting change is horrible...

My primary use for the Clannfear is tanking the boss in solo play, whilst I take down the adds. But with Morrowind I need to heavy attack as part of rotation to sustain, so what happens? The Clannfear spends all his (or her?) time running from target to target instead of actually holding aggro or doing a little damage.

The Clannfear (and other pets) aren't regenerating health, in OR out of combat either. That's a nuisance I can deal with if I have to... But if the new targeting stays, I will have to abandon pets entirely.

ARgh.... and I find myself wanting to say "this is a Buff if"

But I can't even come up with anything.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

I don't care about the targeting...

What i care about is how the pets health is completely bugged right now.

They no longer regain health out of combat and they now take aoe damage as they never have before. They are not exactly smart enough to dodge roll out of it...

During a boss fight i find myself having to resummon 3 times as much as i was before the patch.

    They have become subpar.

I'm only speaking of PvE by the way. I don't PvP so i couldn't tell you if its just as bad.

@Drummerx04 was DPS testing at my home, where I have two dummies that are of a similar distance apart as the dummies in your video.

He goes to attack one dummy, and his pet runs off to attack the other dummy that he never even touched or aggroed.

It's hilarious how, with the introduction of a new pet class, pet AI has gotten so much worse this patch. :D

Zos have already acknowledged the health recov bug and are looking at it.

Not sure if they are aware of the targeting issues though..

BTW, I've now dropped pets from all but my DW build (which does no weaving/heavy attacks)

Glad they are looking into it. Maybe the problems are linked and they both get fixed.

I'm sure know that they know something is up they will do some testing for themselves and detriment a fix.

Heavy attack targeting is intentional and has even been mentioned in the patch notes I think. However, it's awful and needs to either have an optional off toggle or better yet be passive - if you manually sicc your pet on a target(y+lmb) they should STAY ON IT no matter who you heavy attack, until manually commanded otherwise. That way we'd still be able to command pets with heavies if we wanted or we could just override that manually. Options. They're good to have.

Not sure if there is a way for someone to create an ADD-ON that toggles the 'heavy attack command' off or not... depends on how it's coded into the system.

If not, perhaps ZOS could add a toggle for us. @ZOS_GinaBruno Is there any way the development team could add a toggle for this option? Especially since now Heavy Attacks are heavily used for resource regen, it definitely causes issues for PC pet players as it overrides the 'Y' command.

I'm with the OP on this - and more.

I play solo due to medical reasons. So for me, the Clannfear is a major part of questing, especially going up against bosses, and more often, enemy parties of 3 or more individuals.

I can no longer put my pet on one enemy, and then start kiting/killing the others without him being pulled of the individual I put him on. I had to take on a party of 4 enemies this morning, and as I was switching from one enemy to another (depending on which one was getting close to me), my poor pet kept running from one to another enemy and not really doing anything because by the time he got there and got ready to deploy his tail swing, I'd already switched to another enemy. Sad ZOS, really sad.

Also, the health issue is really bad. In one fight with 3 enemies this morning, my pet died 4 times. I'd never seen anything like that happening. It seems like you look at him sideways, and he's dead.

Here I thought great, I got a bear tanking for me in Morrowind (great DLC/Expansion BTW), but the same thing for that pet. He's getting pulled off the enemy every fight that has multiple enemies. And some of the Warden spells are disappointing and don't help. For example, the ice spell that is supposed to slow down the enemies, to me it looks like they're walking right through it.

Please take a close look at some of these issues and fix them.

    Thank you.

NOTE: Above player, Drummerx04, also has a very good post on these issues.

Even if it is intentional, this should never over ride player commands. It does need to be optional, this is poor design if it is intentional.
