I just noticed after making 148 potions that Bugloss seems to have more 'Bug' in it than it should.

Using Lady's Smock, Bugloss and Corn Flowers as reagent will show you an "Essence of Spellpower" with Major Sorcery for 47,6 seconds and Major Intellect for 52,8 seconds (With Medicinal Use 3/3)

What it will craft however is a "Essence of Magicka" with only Major Intellect for 52,8 seconds.

Major Sorcery is completely missing here despite being an effect of Lady's Smock and Corn Flower. All 3 of the above listed Reagents also give Major Intellect. Using bugloss however seems to remove Major Sorcery from the intended and in-game shown potion for some reason.

Using Columbine instead of Bugloss results in the intended "Essence of Spell Power" however.

Is anyone else having this?

The game is 'supposed' to deliver what the crafting station shows.

    Also, Inner Light.

Anyone else with L2P answers on a bug report?

Some ingredients cancel each other out but I'm not online atm so I couldn't say. Probably is a bug, but still, water hyacinth is the only third plant

Considering Major Prophecy does not stack with itself and I happen to run Inner Light on both bars... no this is definitely not the only third plant. I like the extended 5 seconds of Major Intellect in case I forget to chug potions on cooldown so I at least get half of the benefit while I maybe finish my rotation and before I hit Q again. All the more with the sustain changes at the door at that too.

I never heard of ingredients canceling each other out, but considering the nature in which this 'design' presents itself in the game, this can hardly be intended for crafting stations to show "Essence of Spell Power" and spit out "Essence of Magicka". Even if this would cancel itself out, it wouldn't be showing the wrong potion.

Unless it's a bug, which is why I made this post here and all I get is alchemy lessons.

There's two ways to craft essence of spell power, but neither include blogloss.

You are entirely missing the point.

Here's what the game shows me.

Hitting R would normally result in the potion that is shown there being crafted.

Shown below is what actually happens.

It's not crafting the potion that is shown there.

If I swap Bugloss for Columbine which shares the "Restore Magicka" effect with Bugloss, I get a perfectly fine potion as shown from the station, with Major Sorcery and Major Intellect. So ingredients negating each other can't be true either as they both have the same effect and it's only working with one.

    Not a bug.

Go learn the rest of Bugloss's traits, and then you'll see what you did wrong.

One of Bugloss's traits is reduce spell power. This cancels out the increase spell power effect from the other two reagents.

The preview doesn't take unlearned traits into account (which is the intended behavior, because otherwise there would be no point in learning alchemical traits), which is why the preview says you'll get spell power. But when you go to actually craft, all the traits are taken into consideration, even if they are unlearned. I.e., the preview may not necessarily match what you get if you don't know all of the traits.

Generally, when you make spell power and restore magicka potions, you use only two ingredients: smock and corn flower (leave the third empty). If you also need spell crit (if not running inner light due to bar space), then you'll add water hyacinth for spell crit.

TL;DR: Go get the Botanist and Toxicologist achievements first before you do any serious potion crafting.

The answer is "lowers spell damage" btw. Which as I said, cancels each other out.

As stated above, this is intentional and there is nothing wrong with this.

Your character has not learned all the traits for Bugloss, one of which is Cowardice (lower spell damage). As far as your character knows, based on the traits you've learned, you are making an essence of spell power, because those are the traits you see coming into the mix.

The real question is: why did you craft over 100 of these before realizing it? When you hit 'R', you should see 'Essence of Magicka' pop up near the top in the center of your screen. That should tell you something went wrong, and that maybe one of the ingredients must be cancelling out the increase spell power effect. Since you know that 2 of your ingredients already have 'increase spell power', you should be able to deduce that Bugloss must have 'decrease spell power'.

This is really how alchemy is supposed to work: until you learn all the traits, you have to experiment to discover them. If a combination produces an unexpected result, then you should stop and think about why it did that, and try to use that information to figure out the traits you do not yet know.
