I use several sources. Tamriel Foundry, Alqast, Woeler, this forum, my own guild TS Chat and my brain to name a few. Deltia was one source out of many and not the most important one. I still remember how long he adviced Engine Guardian for PvE while the meta had already changed.

I always make my own builds based on my understanding of mechanics ...

... but a big part of how I learn about mechanics is by checking out build ideas on Tamriel Foundry. Also very useful is feedback on my own build threads. :) The nitty-gritty posts about game mechanics are a huge help as well.

    Who is Deltia?

A popular youtuber who stole other people's builds and passed them off as his own. Those people then fed him bad or broken builds which he promptly published on his website. The animosity got so bad he abandoned AD, deleting most of his AD toons and moving to DC. He started a guild called "Nugget Nation" which he never paid any attention to and an "elite" PvP group called "Tau'ri" which he would only occasionally lead. His leadership style was abusive and militaristic. Deltia then left ESO for several months only returning for a while to then leave ESO again. Deltia then left DC for EP abandoning his guild with no warning and consigning himself to just being a regular PvPer. This is the third time Deltia has left ESO.

I use his base build and then build around it.

No offense to the guy but his solo/PvP builds are complete trash.

I remember gearing up for VMA and even before testing the build he listed I knew it wouldn't work. It was only viable for a 600cp build and even then was just single target/sustain which made no sense.

During one of his streams I asked,"When are you going to update your solo/PvP guides - especially VMA?" To which he responded ,"What are you talking about? It's the newest thing I've updated - it is current."

I then explained how it's not viable and of course in his arrogance said,"Whatever - don't know what this guy is talking about. You don't like it go somewhere else."

Deltia is very arrogant and smug when you don't agree with his advice. Seen him say stuff like that to viewers more than once. Guy can't take criticism at all.

But yeah, his builds have a good foundation at best and are terrible at worst. His best stuff he stole from other players and just copy pasted to his website.

I like to look at deltia but he wasnt keep things updated like Alcast was. Alcast had some good builds but some of his youtbute comments suggested they werent min-maxed so I was weary, but I find lot of people on these forums post the best stuff. With all of that I also try to make my own but I'd rather play the game instead of theorycrafting, which to me would include spending time farming different sets with the right traits to properly theorycraft - and that is where I dont want to invest time in theorycrafting.

I have never copied a Build off the Internet. For one, I never get the Trials Gear or what not these builds always seem to require. The old you need the gear the dungeon drops to run the dungeon thing.

I also recognize that I don't need to be on the Bleeding Edge of DPS to enjoy the game. I also wonder if anyone not chasing competitive Trials Scores needs to be on the Bleeding Edge. Heck, are the Trials Scores all that influenced by having the Bleeding Edge or is it more Rotation Integrity?

What I do is, take ideas from the builds about how some gear sets synergy with some rotations, or how some skills feed into or off of other skills. I take that, the gear I have or can get, and build something that works for me and I have fun with.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

My husband and I usually group with just the two of us so we tend to do builds that are high bread, like tank/DPS and DPS/healer.
It's funny to see people go wow two magi just killed a world Boss.
We know we won't be soloing world Bosses once we get our Wardens, but who knows, they have heals, they have pets,... We tested them a bit, we will see.....
We don't care about best scores, only that the two of us can run and pass dungeons, so our builds are all worked around DPS and healing.
Two people should have no problem being able to do most of the content in the game PvE..
Save for the big raid Dungeons....

I have never copied a build. Usually because I don't have the sort of resource where I'm at endgame and everything ever is in my inventory. What I do like is understanding exactly how skills work and what they play well with (and what they don't). Sure, if my comprehension of tooltips was higher, I might could figure that stuff out. I certainly never sit down to do math. I knew builds weren't for me when the first one I saw mentioned something a long ways off, if ever, for me. But the specifics really help.

I come up with concepts for builds on my own, check to see if anyone has made a similar build to what I was planning, and then usually end up using around a third or two thirds of what they recommended and the rest is my own design. I do look up pre-made builds to recommend to my guildmates who don't know their class well enough to design their own yet.

Actually I'm resurrecting my Engine Guardian set for Morrowind. I know the set's weaknesses, but am going to experiment with it for sustain reasons. I'm also using a staff on my back bar even though I'm stamina DPS. Was going to use a lightning one because of the faster heavy attack, but today's PTS patch notes have thoroughly confused me. Shrug.

I have always done what I pleased in the game whether or not it was anyone else's notion of good, better, best. Sure, I'll never top leaderboards, but it's not why I play this game.

I build entirely my own stuff. I have no interest in meta, and only a passing flirtation with min/maxing.

I have a magplar build I use that is based on others advice, taken from multiple sources, then mixed and matched to suit my slower playstyle without too much attention to DPS.

For example, I still insist on using purely crafted sets (apart from jewellry).

I have been looking at the post morrowind stuff about sustain being an issue, and sat there laughing when I realised that sustain is not something I will ever have a problem with as I built a balanced set-up (I have magicka recovery built in using sets that give this)with extended sustain and slightly less DPS. In post-morrowind, that sustain remains. Its not as strong as it was, but that isn't a problem as Heavy attacks have always been a part of my rotation anyway. She still pulls 20-25K DPS regardless.

    For those curious -

Dark Elf Magplar, 5 Julianos, 3 Magnus' Gift (all divines), 3 Transmutation. Thief Mundus. All gold, Lightning destro staff with flame enchant. Resto staff with health drain glyph.

I have noticed an interesting shift in the coverage of ESO lately. And I'm really playing it fast and lose with the word interesting, but the shift from host carried content (Deltia and Sypher) into content carried content (Alcast and Gilliam) is quite a major one. Before it was all showmanship and bling and now it's all very academical. Sypher was/is a very skilled player and obviously built his fanbase on said skill but the show was always about Sypher as a product. Same can be said for Deltia. What mattered was the Nugget Nation or the Sypherhood and the brands. What matters now are dry, to the bone analysis of meta combat mechanics.
I'm not saying one is better than the other, and there is definitely a gap to be filled after losing two so large personalities on the youtube/twitch scene, maybe KevDuit will fill some of it, but his product is one of pure entertainment.
Personally I much prefer the new style and certainly do not miss "let's pk inferno nugget sorcy porky like a truck", but that's just me and I'm a grumpy, old man.

Anyway, on topic, the word "Deltia" just becomes the term used for something you picked up whether on the Alcast HQ or Deltia's Gaming or wherever and obviously the theorycrafters lend inspiration from eachother, would be foolish not to.
I always had a feeling that Deltia did not craft his builds himself, neither did Sypher. I bet a lot of Deltia's videos contain the wisdom of people like Gilliam only spoken with Deltia's voice.

Lastly, I'll say that though I am not a fan of Deltia I don't appreciate people knocking him on the forums. Bad form.
He worked his proverbial and literal ass off to cover this game and has made a very convoluted and tbh weird combat and skill system available to newer players. Don't want to study for a degree in eso theorycrafting? Just watch Deltia.
Same goes for Sypher. His displays of PvP skills have spawned dreams and ambitions in many new players and you really can't measure the value of that.

Very, very well said @Jitterbug, this is an uncomfortable thread because it singles out one person for criticism he doesn't deserve. No one was or is forced to consume what Deltia had to offer, but he did provide useful information to many players. A lot of his information was not about builds, but about other aspects of the game. That info is still very useful.

    Please.

You work your *** off in a factory or laying brick, not sitting on your rump playing video games, I know I have done both in my very long life.

Personally I could give two figs what you or anyone else appreciates. Deltia had a unhinged, food flying from his mouth rant on YouTube, and called anyone that disagreed with him in chat a "crapmuncher", (paraphrasing) and worse, not to mention the Bizzaro mock funeral held for his Templar ....I don't know if he was channeling Shia LaBeouf or what, but it was downright weird.

Myself and many other people that plays this game saw this coming, it's why we said it was a mistake for ZoS to invite high profile streamers to meet with the devs, they did a great job explaining a lot of things at PAX, and ESO live gives us a lot of information, also historically every time a dev does something like this it blows up in their face, It did when SOE did it twice and when Bioware did it.

We predicted ZoS and the community would get the Francis treatment and they did, and what did it really accomplish? He ended up looking like a total tool, the usual suspects of the hate machine used it as fuel to troll the forums, and all of it turned into a big nothing burger, because as usual people over reacted without getting the whole picture.

I liked how Matt explained how the devs test on the last ESO live and why they test the way they do, thing is it's standard procedure for most developers, and he has said it several times before, yet it's easier to over react, because playing the forum for some is more fun than any game.

You can appreciate or not appreciate anything you like, but when someone makes a complete ass of themselves on live stream like Deltia did, they should expect some blow-back.

Burying the templar was a joke. It was funny and was intended to be so. If you can't see that and don't find it funny, that's on you, no one else. As for his quitting ESO video, that was no rant. It was, if anything, somewhat regretful,. The man's life changed forever when his son was born, and he's clearly trying to make better life choices even if hard for him. To condemn him for that is really ugly stuff.

@ZOS_GinaBruno, whatever happened to no naming and shaming in these forums?

As for my builds being the best i can possible make them i follow Alcast.
