Players banned for white costumes

Since the servers are down there's plenty of time to look through the forums and I came across a story of some players banned for dressing up in white and subsequently being banned for racism. I wanted to find out if they had actually said anything racist or was it just the act of wearing white.

In an online game it is at the discretion of ZOS to ban anyone they feel breaks their terms.
Unfortunately though what looks like should have been a temporary ban and a warning, if even that, has gone a bit far and banned a group simply for wearing white and joking ritualistically.

I wear the wedding dress jokingly in game and coincidentally have "white" in my name, should I also be banned? It may seem like a silly question(obviously I shouldn't be) but a large group may have been banned for just that.

I didn't see them say anything racist though correct me if I'm wrong? If they didn't then it's just a case of a group of white wearing folks which isn't necessarily the ***. A "capirote" is a pointed hat of conical form that is used in Spain for instance.

There are two known instances on this. Both times the groups were being racist and orchestrating mock *** rallies.
Both of those groups deserved the permabans imo

Maybe get a name change and dye your wedding dress or stop using it, just to be on the safe side.

You never know what whims ZOS happens to have when looking at your 'case'.

Zos know all. They probably said something in guild chat. Though note, roleplaying discriminating actions is probably against the toc anyways. It's clear what they were doing, so the lesson is play nice with each other.

P.S This an old news topic.

This thread will likely get closed since it is against the TOS to discuss discenplenary actions.

I seriously doubt someone would be banned simply for wearing white.

They simulated the ***, a racist organisation in North America. Racism out of lore is a complete no-go for any company and they will apply a zero tolerance policy on stuff like that. Any brainless dodo could´ve expected what the consequences on such doings are.

People generally feel like it was very intentional to dress up like the *** it seems and perhaps ZOS did check the guild/group chat log.

One video that was posted had a group in white robes, running around a zone, throwing fireballs, lava floors, and other fire based attacks on Redguard/minority characters. Saying anything racist while doing that would have been rather redundant, really.
If you don't get what was bad about that, google three capital letter Ks together, or the Klan, and lynchings, and burnings.

While some people might be able to believe the immediate whining that that kind of activity was simply a "joke", I find it really hard to believe they didn't know why it was an incredibly idiotic thing to do. Even as a "joke" it breaks the ToS and Code of Conduct. Zenimax was within their rights to ban.

Sadly perhaps this is a symptom of events outside of Tamriel where some now think it is acceptable to say and do the vilest things born of the very lowest and worst parts of human nature.

There's a difference between Orc tanking in white wedding dress as a joke (or to make him easily distinguishable in the raid) and the whole group basically roleplaing crypto-KKK stuff with burning torches etc. I said "crypto" because there's no "open" wordplay used, yet the reference and similarity is devastatingly obvious.

It's not up to us to decide whether should that result in perma-ban or temporary one with a "last chance" warning. Personally, I'd talk first and see both sides of the coin.

They were very good and famous players of Ps4 NA.

When you become good and famous in your server you will always hundreds of people who hates you, so they did it and all the people that have been getting destroyed by them in PvP started reporting them and they asked entire guilds to report them and they finally got banned.

To be honest with you I don't care, I mean I don't know them and I don't even play in NA but it hurts my heart to see Zenimax throwing perma bans at people just because they were messing around, yeah I know it wasn't the best joke ever but come on it's a video game, people using cheat engine, exploiting vMol glitches, exploiting gold mats and all that stuff don't even get banned and if they do get banned they receive a 3 days ban, I just find it ridiculous, they should've banned them for a week.

Also reading the threads at the time, apparently it wasn't the first offense for some of them. First offense you might get off easy. Keep doing the same behavior over again and the consequences increase. Guess if you run through your warnings with suspensions, the last one is a permaban.

Whenever I wear my white-dyed Black Hand Robes I am jokingly (though a bit seriously sometimes too) told by friends it'd be best to take them off because I'll probably get banned now on PS4 NA.

I also ride my favorite mount - the limited-time Ice Wolf!

    So here I have:
    1. A robe.... colored white (<-- aka racist)
    2. A mount.... that is white (<-- must be a sign, no?)

This is a robe I have worn on my characters for a looong time. I use the Birch White dye on the main color slot to match my Ice Wolf, Polished Steel Gray on the metal pieces, and then use different colors (Aetherial Blue, Transliminal Violet, Palatine White, etc) on the side pieces based on my character. It's my favorite costume and looks pretty awesome imo.

Thanks to all that has transpired, I have recieved whispers on numerous occasions now by people calling me a racist as well as worse things because I'm a Dro-m'Athra Destroyer (as were the banned players) and wear a robe colored white. It mostly happens in PvP. I reported a few of them but nothing happens cause I am guilty of the actual in-game crime of wearing white robes afterall -_-

It's just a shame how everything has gone down in this particular situation, regardless of whether you support the bans or not. Luckily things have died down a lot and it is a past event now.

Either way, it seems to have left a lasting mark on the use of white robes now. This is the case on PS4 NA at least (doubt other platforms have this issue). I only hope ZOS will not be crazy enough to truly throw out bans for wearing them.

    What?

    *sigh*

But fr though it's kinda sad :disappointed: I don't even have ESO Plus to change the colors! Not like I would if I did though.

Certainly not going to let randoms tell me what to do. If I want to wear my robes and color them white then I'll do it.

White robes have no inherent meaning, and if wearing simple robes that are colored white offend people then they are the ones who need change, not me. I won't support outlawing White dyes in ESO. It sounds ridiculous in itself lol

I think part of the problem was that a lot of people wanted to get rid of those players and when they do something that's a bannable offence (but wouldn't usually end up with a permanent ban) they incur a lot of extra hate and reports from all those people that want them gone. Other innocent people get caught up in it as maybe some people think you are part of it when you really aren't. The fear isn't that ZOS will go mad with power and randomly ban for wearing white, I think it's that a group of people that dislike you will concoct a believable story and it will be believed enough to ban you. Not saying this is what happened with those guys of course.

This misses common sense quite badly. As said above - there's a difference between someone wearing white robe for style or to make him/her easily distinguishable in group content and a fully organized group basically reconstructing KKK burning someone and performing magic-like rituals. This is exactly what happened there.

I won't go into specifics or name ppl. Despite what these players did or what stance you take based on their situation, what you've said here is exactly what happened. They had a lot of haters, especially because they maintained rank #1 leaderboards since Vet trials were introduced.

One guy in particular was grouped but not even in the same zone or involved with the others. Just in in-group (*may* have been offline but I don't remember). He also recieved a permaban that wasn't repealed, though he admittedly did not try to repeal it very hard and decided to quit ESO... RIP #1 PS4 NA vMA player

Anyway, lots of people have different opinions on what happened.

The white robe thing is more of the "after-effect" part that will be probably be around forever. I don't think ZOS will actually ban ppl over wearing white robes either. It's just sad overall how this toxicity has infected the endgame PvE crowd now. Hurts the already small community a bit when such big figures leave, as all of them helped progression runs often and were part of the theoretical 0.1%. With Morrowind looking to really hurt endgame PvE.... idk. It all just sucks :(

I only talked about the after effect where it is now looked down upon to simply wear white-colored robes of any kind.
