Man, daily random dungeons can be a real disappointment!

gareee
gareee
We are fairly new players, and haven't experienced all the random dungeons.. so of course we want to look around, start the quest, and loot.

There are two of us, and we did City of Ash yesterday. The map looked really interesting, and is very convoluted. The other two players who came must have been higher level, and have done it a billion times. We could barely keep up with them, as they ran through the entire map killing everything in sight without hardly any assistance by us at all. That really spoiled the team player concept of the random dungeons for us. Several times we had trouble even figuring out where the heck they went.

We do the daily dungeons for the experience perk, but it almost feels like a spoilery thing, since no one wants to wait for people following the quest, looting, or just enjoying the location and following the story.

I've seen that several times in delves as well, where I'm being stealthy and two or three guys just come running through slaughtering everything in sight. It really makes me want to go back to single player games.

I suggest putting together a group, preferably with friends from your guild. Players from group finder often just want to finish the dungeon ASAP. Especially so for City of Ash I (I'm assuming because II would wreck a newbie) because everyone and his dog has farmed that dungeon to death.

I understand you OP, but I would want to see you in these same dungeons after a year, for example. You will be storming them and killing everything in sight just like these guys and some new players will have their game ruined lol.

Just tell the group as soon as your join and realize you have a quest in the dungeon that you're doing it. I have yet to have a party not slow down so I could complete the quests and get the skill point and I've never personally left people behind who were questing.

If you have a friend with you it's not so bad, but if you're doing a dungeon for the first in in a PUG and you have the quest you need to let them know you're questing so they all dont leave at the end before you get your skill point for completion.

I feel for you, that does suck...

But dude...game has been out for a few YEARS now....

If you want that experience, dont do activity finder, form your own group or find friends....dont rely on random people to use their own time so you can have a better "experience"

Wife n myself haven't really found a guild for new players, and the social aspect seems really broken without voice communication. Its been a month we've been playing now, and I'm thinking MMos just aren't for us.

(We've run private servers for ark and 7 days to die, using discord for voice chat.)

In those, everyone was on chat, and it was a party.. in ESO, its like seeing a lot of ghosts running around, with the occasional "join our guild" spam in local chat.

But the game has that daily "carrot" of leveling up and gaining a bunch of experience, so we want to do it daily for those reasons. Its a shame the matchmaking system is set up to mix newer players and vets as well.

7/10 times joining group chat will work and there are people there.

    What platform are you on?

And joining guilds is a pretty good way of finding people to play with honestly.

I have found that people who are doing the Random Dungeon thing in the Dungeon Finder are burning through it as quickly as possible, more than likely as they are cycling all their alts through too. 10 Characters, on scrolls, that would be 2,000,000 plus Exp or Champ Points.

Even then if you go into the group finder just for any old dungeon, your more than likely going to get mixed results as many threads here point out.

You really want to create your own groups and enter the dungeons manually.

That being said, the group finder pugs can be a good way to find like minded people to run other dungeons with. Talk to once you think might want to run them the same way as you, then form your own group and do have fun.

If you play PC/NA, send me an email in game and i can get you and your wife into a couple of good guilds for running dungeons and other content when you need help, or will leave you alone when you want to solo/duo things.

Not atm. 9/10 fail. It's actually also true for any pre-made group, so if OP is queueuing with 2 at least one of them is probably not getting the xp/reward either.

As everyone else has stated, it is RARE to do a dungeon with a brand new player these days. When Morrowind drops next month there will be an influx of new players for sure. But even low level characters you run into these days are probably peoples 7th and 8th alts.

It took me a while to join a guild but you should join 5 and keep switching until you find ones where people participate. Just type that you are looking to do a certain dungeon and people will join. MOST people are very helpful when it comes to new players and will tag along to get you through it.

Why would you kick them at the beginning, is it because you need a carry? Good players don't need a stacked group, we can do it solo anyway...it's good to help low levels when possible!

Oh man, I'm sorry. I know exactly what you mean about the desire to explore a new game.

Unfortunately City of Ash is a short dungeon that happens to drop one of the best magicka damage sets in the game. This means people run it as fast as possible looking for gear from the final boss. Skipping enemies, taking weird short cuts, and ranting at new players is the norm. (I'm not saying it should be).

I think the best suggestion would be to look for a casual guild that likes to run PvE content. There are lots of these. They're the kinds of guilds where you'll find players who won't mind doing a longer dungeon run to acccomodate exploration and questing. Make sure you make it clear that those are the things you're interested in doing there.

If you play PC/NA, I'd be happy to run some dungeons with you and your partner. Message me on here for my in-game username.

If you mention it upfront, most have no problem waiting for you to listen to dialogue. They're likely to need your help with content forward anyway.

If it's your intent to loot every bag, nook, and cranny while they linger, that may be a different story and best partaken with a pre-made group, not during a random. This way you can take your time.

The only time we've ever not slowed for a dungeon quest was when it wasn't mentioned until half way through. Just because you pause at an NPC, you can't assume someone knows that's why. Plus, they'll you'll get a Yay or Nay upfront.

    Good luck!

The guys we went in with were taking the shortcuts people mentioned...they jumed from high locations, and we both missed the platform they were jumping on because we were trying to keep up, and both died...lol!

We aren't new to gaming at all, just fairly new to eso. (We used to play Unreal Tournament in a clan 12 years ago.)

Oh, and we are on pc... we bought into the discount a month or so ago. I'm sure it was discounter hoping to net new morrowind players, but it'll be months before we even consider new content.

If we had two other friends playing so we could form our own complete group, the experience might be different, but we went in expecting a social experience, and what we have ended up doing is either both exploring separately as a single player game, or joining up for quests together... but even that is set up sort of funky, with both people having to replicate quest points.

People in the forums here (with a few exceptions like in some of the replies to this) have been far more social than what we've seen in game.

We tried the campaign, and people were more social in that, but there isn't really coordination and good enough communication to make that work well.

Thanks to those who've invited us to play with them! Right now we are level 29 and 38, I think.

Yeah considering RNG in this game and running City of Ash 100 times, Vet players just want to get it done as fast as possible. Doing it slow 100 times would be even more miserable. Try to find other lowbies to do it with which i know maybe difficult.

When mentioning the platform, it helps to mention either NA or EU.

Also, a lot of guilds do use TS/discord, but you are correct that it is not a feature of the game (in consoles it is but I hear it can be annoying in overland especially in towns).

Half formed groups tend to fail.

It'll simply disband your group half the time upon porting:/ If it doesn't you're also very likely to get "queued" status bug which means no random reward even if you do re enter the right dungeon.

To OP, honestly you just had worst luck wih a dungeon possible. I even know exactly what platforms you're talking about because I've farmed coa 1 myself - and yes, I took every shortcut possible after first ~20 runs. I hate farming. Thing is it's super easy and it drops the best magicka dps set in the game so people run it like you have no idea...hundreds of even THOUSANDS of times if they're after weapons(which only drop after last boss). Honestly after first 50 runs it stops being about the dungeon whatsoever and starts being about how to bypass everything you don't absolutely have to kill asap so you can just maybe finally get your gear and get it done with. NEVER groupfind coa unless you wanna farm. You should have mentioned you were there for the quest and stuff but in all honesty they probably wouldn't have waited anyway. Join a guild or look for like-minded players in the zonechat or forums. It's unfortunate but it just happens when people join a dungeon with having a completely different goal in mind and currently there's no way to distinguish between "I just want a fast farming run" and "I want to explore this place inside out".

Maybe you are just not born to play MMO. It's an MMO you know, with all the pros and cons, and you should expect different attitude from different people. Some of us are bored of the game content we played for so long and wish to speed the dungeon just for the loot from bosses, because it's all that matters, the other loot is typically a trash. That's why random guys usually go with speed. Even going with guildies the speedy attitude is very often.
What you can do is to find 2 more friends that share your slow adventurous playing style, get yourself a discord channel and play dungeons in this 4.

We honestly don't know anyone else still playing the game. Most of our friends tried it early, and have moved on.

I'm surprised people bored of the game would keep grinding, instead of just moving on... it's not like there aren't a ton of new games out there to play through.

(I'm finally also playing through alien isolation on hard, though we've had it for ages.)
