Bad trend among ESO guilds?

I am in 4 trade guilds with prime traders, those guilds also LFG pledges, trials, PvP - constantly someone looking to fill a group.
Yet i joined 3 PvP guilds, 6 End-game guilds in the past.. Did I actually get to do what they advertised? Hell no, not even once.

The guild is what people in it make it to be. The leader may have had the best intentions and people joining it may have promised them the world. But in the end of the day - it's the people in it that make those runs, social aspect, PvP or trades or whatever the case. People who join with a goal to do PvE Raids one day may completely get bored of it and stop doing it the next - single-goal oriented guilds rarely last.
I am in large established trade guilds which harbour people from of all types - Raiders, PvP'rs, chatty social people, dedicated traders - it is much easier in such a guild to actually get something done as you are talking to a broader audience.

It's just a case of keep trying until you find it. Don't believe the flashy recruitment messages - they mean nothing, same as a bland advert on TV. Ask around, word-to-mouth is the best advertisement. Eventually you will land where you want to be. Gotta kiss so many frogs before you find your prince(ess).

I must have been very lucky then because I quickly found a guild that is very active in chat, always happy to answer questions, have a bit of friendly banter and chat about every day things as well as the game. We also have frequent get togethers whether that's for fishing, world bosses or house parties. It's a very friendly and supportive guild that suits both casual solo players and hardcore pvp'ers/vets. The only rules are that it's a safe space from racism, sexism, homophobia and ableism and that is respected.

OP, keep looking, and if you don't find a guild you like you can always start one!

i think how the trade system is feeds the way guilds are too
need a lot of people trading to afford a trader so you need quantity to get there

the trade system really had to go, its ridiculously bad. worst i have ever seen

and please do not say its regional trade, there are no regions in this game once you have been everywhere, everything is 10 seconds and 2 minutes of loading screen away..
if you had to travel by foot or mount only then regional trade makes sense, here it just a race to get the best spot for prices that force guilds to get a lot of people to pay the bills..

The main reason for the "Quality" issue of guilds in ESO is the fact that you can be in 5 guilds at once which seems to build unfaithful members.

Guilds are not your friend list, when someone writes down "hello" in guild chat, I am not going to answer most of the time because I am usually doing something. For pve hc guilds, the quality is not there because top players joined your guild, its about growing with the group of core players and constantly analyzing what you could of done better/what you can work on, getting used to same strategy etc.

Players in this game are very allergic to typing, on console anyway. Most prefer voicechat. Also, I personally find the whole "hi guild!" / "bye guild!" thing one of the most annoying things about text based guild chat. Its like a weird attention craving behaviour that just fills up the window with clutter text...

i notice interesting facts about ESO guilds.
There is a lot guilds in eso world, but main question is:
Why to join to any of those guilds?
When the game is in 90% oriented to PVE and solo questing.

When i was looking to join in any guild i realize that ESO have two types of guilds:
Guilds who goes to quantity but not to quality, and guilds who strongly wants that quality and they are not in hurry for quantity.
...but that second type of guilds who wants quality they never achive that and then very soon they become just another passive ESO guild with quantity over quality.
From my experience i have been in such a guild who is main purpose to have 200+ members.
When you enter ingame chat and see that 55+ people from that guild are online , and you write it down in guild chat just simple one: Hello!
And guess what: no one answers!?!?! Can you imagine that you are in 200+ members guild and lets say again 50+ people are in that time online, and no one speaks with anyone, no one play with anyone. They are just there online and thats it.Any normal person will ask themself WTF i am doing in such a guild?

We all can read in guild recruitment section of forum, that some people looking for guild and other side is everyday spamming they recruitment guild topic.JOIN OURS GUILD! JOIN! we are the best! JOIN!
And you go back to those people who is looking in theirs post for guild and you see one interesting thing.
No one cares about them, no one from those recruitment guild spamming topic want to reply them, of course with some rarely exceptions.
Again from my experience that i have.I have been recruited from one guild and like a new member i want to speak with founder or officer off that guild to see whats that guild is offering?
Are they playing group pledges, PVP...?
When i found officer of that guild he was telling me. i dont want to talk with you, who is recruited you? you are not welcome in ours guild.
i leave that guild immediately. So we have and third type of guild in ESO world.TOXIC guilds with recruitment guild topic on eso forum but when you enter in such guild you exit from that guild in next 15 second.

I run a guild, in picky about who I let join. If I know you to be rude then I won't let you in. It odds 90 strong and these people go out of their easy to help members and non members alike. Sure they get a bit moody in PvP but who doesn't.

Casual guilds are useless. The ones worth joining are:
    - trade guilds if they can actually hold on to a trader, prefferably one in a good spot
    - PvE guilds that run vet dungeons and trials
    - PvP ones that are focused on campaign domination

Methinks the PvP scene on PC EU is different from the PvP scene on PC NA. I'd change your last one to PvP ones that are focused on AP farming or social PvP. Many long time PvPers on PC NA no longer care about campaign domination.

Of course battlegrounds are around the corner so who knows what new PvP guilds they will spawn.

OP pretty much spelled out my exact thoughts. I tried joining two guilds but left because even with 200/450 members respectively, the guild felt more like a zone chat than anything else. I wasn't sure what the point of it all was.

    Therefore I'm planning on either

    1) Never join a guild (90% likely)
    2) Create my own guild with maximum 20~50 members and cycle out/in inactive/active members.

I have ran many successful guilds in the past but it was a lot of work so I prefer not to start one again. However if I do get lonely I may just start a casual but intimate guild.

I only joined a guild to be able to trade with their guild merchant; I don't interact with the members, but with the forced guild trading system its only choice to join a trade guild for this purpose.

I'm going have to agree with previous posters. The 5 guilds at once thing was the nail in the coffin for guilds before the game even went live. There's no guild loyalty with that mechanic. Plus, they need to add incentives to guilds but that can only be done if...

    A) They get rid of the 5 guild system

    B) They make you choose a "main guild" with the other four as something else. The only way you should be able to drop a main guild is through: Being kicked, Leaving the guild or picking another. All three should induce a heavy cooldown. Like, I'm talking a week cooldown before you choose another main guild. That will encourage guild loyalty. Main guilds should offer unique benefits to their members like stat bonuses, xp bonuses, etc.

My only real need for a guild is to use a trader. I have been in trial guilds and extremely social, chit chat guilds but I am a loner and don't want to be harassed about why I aren't running with my guildies or joining in chat.

Maybe I am old and grumpy but being harassed as soon as I log on is not fun for me. If you are not careful you can spend a lot of your time helping everyone else and not achieving anything yourself.

While I would like to get into a group that I can start running trials with, they usually want to be fussy about who the take, what damage you deal, what gear you are wearing, etc. Also being in Australia, a lot of these guilds are not active 80% of the time I am online anyway.

Right now I am in 2 guilds purely for a trader. I go in and fill up my sales stock every week, give them each 20k gold a week for fees and donations and keep myself to myself. Between their split from my weekly sales and my donations, hopefully they feel they are getting enough from me to leave me alone.

    @Megabear

There are many guilds that are pretty much just social and that is what their leadership has built it as. Early on I was in a guild that was more about social RP type games, even though they billed themselves as also working towards raids and doing PvE and such. It was certainly not a good fit which was clear when those that formed raids in the guild were not supported.

In the end I found a couple good guilds that are both social but raid and do dungeons. I suggest you keep looking as it is much easier to do than leading one.

    Two tips.

    1. Never go with a guild that advertises in zone chat. Probably good if you end up in a dungeon with someone and all seems cool strike up a chat and see if you can quickly find if their guild is truly active. Maybe not the first time, but at some point you will find something that works out.

    2. Always look at it as you are taking them for a test drive, but also look for opportunities while there.
