I recently took the family out to dinner and spent almost $500 at a nice restaurant. It would have been FAR cheaper to eat at home. Can I compare THAT to an item in a video game? The meal lasted a couple hours. This island will last longer.

How long did it take you all to digest that meal? Time spent on the can? Gotta factor all that in too. You know, for humanity's sake. Think of the children, man!

people are saying its a waste, lets put that to the test

the price is around what 80bucks, if u spend like over 80 hours in there, and for those that have bought it, they will over the time do that, creating/rearranging/roleplaying, dont forget that 12 people can be in there at the same time, without any one bothering them having fun.

that would mean 1hour fun cost 1buck only

if you buy a movie on itunes as example its like 15bucks and its what 90 mins long, and maybe just maybe you will watch it 2-3 times, that means you have paid more for having that kinda fun, that others have in this game.

No one buys movies on Itunes.

You can buy tons of steam games for potentially thousands of hours of entertainment time though.

I still do not get out the outrage on these. I haven't bought a single house because they serve no function without storage.

Guild halls are nice and I have pitched in things to help with those.

    But yes 160$ for pixels.

I don't agree that the houses serve no function. I have a free port to nearly every major city. I have all my crafting stations in one convenient place, with no lag or people trying to freaking dual all around me. One of my guildies has 10 sets of attuned stations at his house so our guild members don't have to run the map to get to IC just to earn 5 writ vouchers. Sleek Creek gives you access to the outlaw refuge without risking getting caught by a guard. I bought it for about 300k gold. Also, you can drop your banker and merchant in the house. It is a one stop shop after dungeons or questing.
Yep, different house LOCATIONS really come into play. Basic point of real estate is location, location, location. The Snug Pod gives me a free teleport to turn in Undaunted quests. A lot of the group dungeons don't have a convenient exit at the end. Sleek Creek is great when you run up a high bounty.

But that's something worth value in reality, a digital world you can simply click one button and make 160$ per house.

If you have ESO+ for awhile, you can build up a big amount of crowns without buying crown packs.

You are still spending $15 per month and getting 1500 crowns. Buying the island with ESO+ crowns is actually more expensive (in the long run) than buying it with crowns purchased during the sales.

Only if there is a sale for crowns that is, if there's not subbing is better imo

True, but in this case there was a sale what, two weeks ago? And they announced the island was going on sale this month, so someone wanting the island could have stocked up.

I myself think it's simply too much. I'm happy with my broom closet for now.

Ignoring the fools who call people out for supporting a game on a "frivolous" item, I absolutely cannot wait to see pics of those who purchased their new island home and decorated it to their taste.

$160 for something I would have *loved* to earn in game. Exactly why I'm having more fun playing WoW atm. Right now I'm earning a cloud serpent mount by rescuing an egg and raising the serpent to maturity. There's hardly anything in their cash shop compared to ESO and nothing over $25.

I'll play Morrowind for sure, but the direction ESO is going is really disheartening. The *game* and gameplay is what I want, not just a Tamriel version of amazon.

If the majority of your friends and family play this game with you, this purchase makes sense. You can show it off to them, invite them over, and make the game more convenient for you and them.

If not, well I'll shut up there. Enjoy your purchase !

    The price is fair.
    I was expecting 30k-50k crowns.
The island is larger than any of the manors combined and has a beach.
Also, it is possible to swim all around it.

My thoughts exactly. I'm happy to hear that your friends and guildies are having a blast at your spot. I've only revealed my spot to a select few, and plan on keeping it secret for the most part. Once it's completed, I'll gradually start allowing people in. So far however, it's coming along beautifully.

I bought crowns when they were on sale. Didn't have to buy too much more to get the island. Is it expensive? Perhaps. But it's value is in the eyes of its beholder, just as everything else is in this game. So don't feel bad or mock those who bought this island. Of we have the means to buy it, then what's it matter to you?

At least we have an island now. I'm going to have scavenger hunts. And footraces. And hide and seek challenges. I will call it Hello Kitty's Island Adventure.

@Wolfenbelle As a suggestion from 1 island owner to the next, I HIGHLY recommend going with High Elf and Orcish furniture. And maybe a splash of Redguard furniture here and there. It meshes so well with the environment, and looks amazing. I said I wouldn't show pics until more of it was done, but I suppose I can give teaser of 1 of the areas. It wouldn't hurt too much. :)

The part that leaves me scratching my head is the extremely limited timeframe in which to buy it. Especially from the standpoint that a business will charge what people are willing to pay so why limit your cash flow. It seems like a lot of people here have sticker shock. Why aren't they extending the timeframe for people that would buy it after a period of acceptance or those who can't buy it on the spot but will after a couple months. What about upkeep and payroll?

It looks nice, the parts you can actually get to anyway. Lovely beach, if that's your thing. Personally., apart from the beach and the nice scenery I don't particularly like it. Rope bridges and flimsy wooden huts don't do much for me. I think you're paying for the overall size which is, admittedly, quite impressive rather than the actual living space which looks like just a few huts up in the trees. Even if I did like it, I think it'd be far too expensive for me...

I'm not going to criticize anyone who does buy it though. Nothing to do with me how others choose to spend their time/money...

Why must digital / cosmetic stuff cost less? What's the justification there? So only stuff that you can touch and use on a daily basis deserves a higher price? Do you mean food? Water? Toilet paper?

I'm more shocked by people's reaction than the pricing. Actually, the price is pretty reasonable. I'd buy if not for the fact I'm saving up for something else.

It's really not as expensive as a lot of people are making it seem. As I've been saying, it equates to an evening out at the movies. Or a meal at a restaurant (if you're lucky). Not to brag, but I mean filling my car up on gas costs more. Granted 1 thing is in the real world, and the other is in the digital world. But, is it really that serious as people are making it out to be? No. Not at all. A damn pair of NIKEs costs way more on average. 1 damn pair. Lol.
