I have to say you are honestly *** mad if you pay this much outright for a digital house.

Zos are pushing the limits of spending up and up and up, They obviously pull a report on average crown hoard that people with relatively high game time have and add like 5k crowns to it and voila there is the price for the latest desirable.

But this is just plain nuts now. People said I was nuts for paying £899 for a carbon air feed for my motor....

Tbh don't care, in fact reflecting back on my purchases I shouldn't of spent 7k crowns on crates to get those atronarch/wild hunt mounts. Don't even notice them anymore tbh, cosmetics are for people who didn't play enough minecraft,

(I mean, people spend extra $ on getting "designer" jeans instead of Levis. Or getting a Lexus instead of a Honda. Or a platinum ring instead of a silver one. Etc, etc, etc. Doesn't seem that different to me. They're paying for logo, or appearance, or "conspicuous consumption". Hah, you should see some of the other MMO companies out there. Ten years ago, you could pay $60+ for a mount and all it's upgrades (yes, "p2w!") in Perfect World.

And I made the mistake of trying an Aeria game a few years ago - they're hilarious moneygrubbers. They had a monthly "contest" on their website, giving prizes depending on how much you spent - like, if you spent $50, you got a prize; if you spent $200, you got a prize, etc..... with the levels going up to $1500+. New contest each month. With some of the top prizes being things like "the GM hands you the fully-upgraded BiS piece of gear you ask for."

(and then there's mobile "f2p" CCGs. Tried a couple, checked out their forums... they'd release a new set of cards, and within an hour there'd be someone posting a full list on the forum, even though it cost $800+ to find that out.)

Yeah, a high-priced purely-cosmetic thing like this? Don't see the fuss. And they're not remotely breaking new ground with it.

The difference is though, these purchases have a limited life span. All these items and money spent are gone once the population dies and the game gets winded down (remember ZOS only mentioned they have a 5 year plan) and some people have spent myself for instance well over £700 on playing this game, yes it's been enjoyable until homestead *** us console players over, But I don't see the appeal to this. Again I understand horses for courses but this is getting ridiculous now with this pricing. especially now it's proven that ZOS make no effort to fix what is paid for content ( see Earthtear cavern lags you out, not fixed) Trials on console not fixed. these purchases are doing nothing but showing ZOS we don't care how they treat us. And they are taking the *** with it.

And paying $2000 for a meal at an uber-fancy restaurant has a life span of a few hours. I wouldn't do that either, but I don't look down on people who enjoy fine dining.

See, I'm fine with high prices on "purely cosmetic" things... because they're exactly that. Purely cosmetic. Not required or needed in any way. Luxuries.

Personally, I think the 5k crowns for the assistants is much more annoying. Since they actually serve some function.

(I mean, people spend extra $ on getting "designer" jeans instead of Levis. Or getting a Lexus instead of a Honda. Or a platinum ring instead of a silver one. Off-topic but there can be good reasons for getting a platinum ring over a silver one. Platinum is much harder wearing, meaning it will last longer. For something you're only going to wear occasionally it probably doesn't matter but for something like a wedding ring that's going to be worn all day every day for years (or decades if everything goes to plan) it's important.

Although in that case you can get palladium which has almost identical properties and is much cheaper. Or titanium which is even more durable, often cheaper and lighter weight.

Likewise some people may feel there are good reasons for buying this house over any of the others. Unless it's been changed since it was on the PTS it's the only one that doesn't have an insanely low invisible ceiling on the instance, meaning you can build very tall structures, and its probably got more outside space than most.

Sure the price is extremely high, but if you were looking at buying one of the other notable homes with crowns anyway it may be worth it for you to pay the extra.

(But I'm happy with my medium house. I don't know what I'd do with all the space anyway.)

This is the equal to buying a car for $100 ($12 for base game) and then the dealer asking you to pay $2000 ($160 for the house) for a visor. It's nearly 20x more expensive for an item to be an accessory to the main purchase, which is why all the out rage.

I used to be a whale. I have 30+ mounts, and at approx $25 each, even those are absurdly priced.

But $160 for a house that is nothing but an accessory - that doesn't even help you, and in reality hurts you by forcing you to do more work to maintain and upkeep, is just insane to me. You could buy 4 games for this price (games are $48 at Amazon and Best Buy)

To each his own, but again, the entire game is $12 and the house is $160. Crazy crazy.

Deadass. I thought it would be way more expensive. Went ahead and bought it immediately. Lmao. :joy: Sucks that my girlfriend doesn't play ESO, or else I'd buy her an island for herself as well. She does however play Overwatch (she got me into Overwatch), and has spent tons on loot boxes.

Except that when I bought the game it was $60 and more for the imperial edition. And the island can be bought for $82 if using crowns bought on sale. But either way it is irrelevant as this is a luxury that some will but and others will not based on their own priorities and discretionary income.

They are so playing people that bought all those crowns on sale or have been saving crowns for a year lol. 160 bucks for an island home lol. I guess from ZOS's persepective it is 4 times the value of Morrowind. Man has gaming just totally went to crap where you buy the game and even sub and content is still behind a pay wall. I have zero problems buying an expansion, paying a monthly sub but for all that i would like to be able to get the content they create by actually playing the game not crap like Crown Crates.

Now, see.... if it did "help you", then I'd have a problem with it. Because then that would be coercing people to "need" it. As a purely cosmetic item, that does nothing game-wise? It's perfectly fine, because it's 110% entirely totally OPTIONAL.

Just like I don't care (to think of another "ZOMG WHY!?!?" forum panic I saw elsewhere) that they've released $1k+ in costumes for DOA5. The "OMG DLC IS A RIPOFF/MONEYGRUBBERS!" crowd gets all panicy about stuff like that, but I don't see the issue - it's entirely cosmetic and un-necessary. No skin off my nose if they do that, or if some people choose to buy it. Doesn't effect the actual game in the slightest.

Not sure how you get 160. Even at full price of 5500 crown packs the island is $137 furnished. And with crown sale that becomes $82.

I get you don't agree with the price but at least keep it real.

It depends on what currency you're using, and which crown pack you use to do the maths (and whether you factor in the sale prices). But that's why it helps if people specify what currency they're talking about in their post. '160 bucks' could be almost anything (although presumably not the literal interpretation of 160 male deer...unless we're talking muntjac). Normally I'd guess US dollars, but in this case apparently not.

It's business 101 to push the spending limits of your customer base. Do I think it's crazy? Yes, yes I do.

But until they find the ceiling on what people are willing to shell out - expect this trend to continue. I said that MONTHS ago when they came out with the over priced Elk mount (which for full disclosure - I did purchase).

For all the people that are flaming mad, there are just as many that are buying the thing at that price and are happy.

They WILL keep pushing up on the ceiling until something utterly fails.
