I personally like how harsh Dunmer look, that's why I picked them as my favorite race. Plus Naryu in that CGI trailer looks like a grey skinned human. The digital artist definitely took some liberties and humanized her a bit. Rana and Naryu in game look kinda cute for Dunmer, but the lighting in game makes player Dunmer look a bit dark and shadowed with harder lines in the face. And then when you pull up your menu you charcter swivels and you get different lighting and they look good again. This might just be the ps4 graphics being lousy as hell...but who knows.

I'm surprised people are whining about Dunmer in ESO when they looked way more beaten down and haggard in Skyrim. They already made Dunmer more attractive than they were before. Make them look any more human and they stop being Dunmer, more like half breeds or something.

But sadly the hair options in the game aren't too good, I wish they had more race specific hairstyles for Elven races tbh.

Bretons, though. I can make gorgeous Bretons, which is pretty much the main reason I'm playing a Breton.

okay- for females its actually easier than males - with all the non-human races- to make them easier on the eyes- is to make them more "human".a trick aesthetically is to soften there features and bring them down as far as possible. their cheekbones, are higher and more jutting, eyes more recess, brows are more prounounced- and thats the case with orcs, dunmer, etc. so you want to start of with soft/angular, then bring the sliders right down on all the jutting features- to make them more humanoid. so lower the cheekbones, bring them right down, make the jaw wider , raise the chin , bring back the brown bring out the eyes- make the eyes less slanted, choose a thinner eyebrow to de-emphasise the brows. also the ears- you want to reduce, pin back and reduce the tip flare.
for example with altmer you want to widen their faces, bosmer also, with orcs you want to make them more narrow. make their noses smaller, straighter and slightly wider- and with a few tweaks they can pass as a human with an ashen tan.

i enjoy trying to make one race look like another as much as possible, my breton is always confused with a high elf ( flare the ears, elongate all the features and make as angular as possible) and my imperial confused with a redguard, (broaden nose, thicken lips, round the skull, make the nose shorter and more buttony- than the famous roman nose of imperials).

tbh elves should be as unattractive as their personalities, so your average altmer should look like an amorphous abstract representation of dysentary, and it should scale towards mildly-unattractive when you get to orsimer/bosmer on the other end :^)
