The fact I had to purchase a feature at point X in time is not, and can not, be held to be a guarantee that access to said feature will always be so gated.

If it were the game would still only be subscription based, because I had to pay a subscription at launch and it would therefore be sooooooo unfair if other people were able to play without having to pay that subscription fee.

You do know that there were crowns and a mount that was given to players who subbed for a while, after the game was changed to B2P, right?

Also if I were a sub then, I wouldn't mind the game to be B2P, because then I have the option NOT to pay for a sub and still be able to play the game. Whereas if it was still sub, and my sub expired, I wouldn't be able to play at all.

I did. I got the any-race thing free. It's been so long I'm not sure if I recall correctly, but I bought the TU disc at Best Buy and there was a code to redeem in the box that gave that and a set of CE maps. This was in November of 2015.

I certainly didn't pay more for it.

There's not requirement to buy crates. There's no requirement to buy anything from the crown store for playing this game.

There isn't even a requirement to subscribe.

If you want to play any race in any alliance you will pay. Essentially this thread was created because you want it for free.

OMG. They could make it an ESO+ perk and if the sub is dropped the character gets changed to one of the native races at random. Yea. PrOblem solved.

Why does it matter you ask? Because more players mean a healthier game (income), and more players tend to keep things like PVP fresh (meat). Making it so friends have to buy the game, then pay again for the privilege of playing any race any faction in PVP (because in reality they removed this requirement from PVE) is a paywall that many will decline, and the game as well outright. Pay, then pay some more.

Did they really remove this requirement in pve? You can make a DC Orc and do all of the main story quests in EP lands? Can you just do the EP story quests to reach coldharbour?

You can do all the quests in any lands as any race since ONE TAMRIEL, including the MAIN QUEST for each faction regardless of yer selected race without the need for the pack in PVE. I selected DC as my faction but just did the MQ for AD with a new character.

So yes, they effectively "removed" the requirement with ONE TAMRIEL. The concept of selecting a faction really only pertains to what will happen in PVP now. That's why it should be changed so that faction selection is part of joining a PVP campaign and not specifically tied to a character... and not requiring an additional purchase to play with friends in PVP.

that said, to fix the imbalances to PVP populations there needs to be some concrete boosts/advantages to the underdog faction(s). Also campaigns need to be clean slated at the end of the campaign (did they fix this?).

Character racials certainly need to be looked at... everybody knows that certain races are at a distinct advantage, so the META is re-inforced, and any variety goes out the window. poor damn Argonians and Nords right?

Hell I play a woodelf magblade now because I like the character, hardly min/max.

Not exactly what I asked. I'm asking could your DC faction new character do the games main story in AD lands. Could you use the Auridon harborage? The quest Lyris gives you in town did you have to go to Daggerfall or could you do it in Auridon? Also did completing the AD main quest lead you to Stirk and Coldharbour?

Agree we should be allowed to select a faction, when entering Cyrodiil for the first time, all for this type of feature.

There's an issue in pvp with cross-alliance cooperation. You may have seen a recent thread where Zeni punished hundreds of accounts for blatant resource farming, from 3 day suspensions to permanent revocation of the account depending on any prior history of violations. Also, confiscation of all alliance points on the accounts.

If there's a way to rig the game for unfair advantage, then some people will do that, and then they will use that unfairly gained advantage against you.

For this reason, I am against a character being able to change alliances between campaigns. I'm against being able to have more than one character in the same campaign, such as having a blue and a red both in the same campaign. There's way too many examples of Team Purple / Green / Orange to be reckless in relaxing what alliance ties the game already has.

I think it might we worthwhile exploring locking an entire account to an alliance while the characters in that account are engaged in a campaign. Think on that the next time you are trying to defend against Team Purple, Team Green, or Team Orange.
