Does a guild master's behaviour affects your decision to stay or leave?

I'm in the exact opposite situation right now.

The guildmaster is a nice guy that tries to be sociable with everyone...but this guild just isn't going anywhere. No one talks, no one ever runs dungeons, the guy says things like "check out our thriving guild store, we'll have a merchant soon" when I know for a fact no one uses it and nothing is listed on it but newb mats...

Nice guy or not, this guild is a waste of time and a potential guild slot. I'm going to give it a chance for a little while longer before I just leave.

Meanwhile if there was a really good guild but the owner was a *** I don't think I'd care in the slightest unless the guy was a *** to me specifically. Even then it kind of depends to what extent he is a ***. The owner isn't the reason I join guilds in the first place. I join a trading guild for example to trade, not because I know the stranger who invited me to it. If I join a PvE guild it's to PvE with other people, not necessarily the owner specifically.

Two players had an argument for 45 minutes, using the same 2 stupid arguments the whole time too.
I tried to change the topic/cool them down, but instead an officer told me to keep quiet and let them further spam the guild chat. I could have ignored them but other people joined and left that useless discussions the whole time.
That and other similiar behavior of not showing responsibility beyond making sure that they can keep the guild trader, made me quiet very fast and that was a trade guild in rawl'kha.

Have you pointed this out to the guildmaster? Because nice guy or not, it sounds like he's wasting everyone's time/falsely advertising things. I know if I joined a guild being told that it's active and the guild store was 'thriving' only to find it as a dud, I'd be miffed.

Meant to vote for 'depends' as all my guilds are different.

1st guild is social, helpful and mainly just vampires and werewolves.
2nd guild is dungeons & trials.
3rd guild is overly social, pvp and pve, fun random events and all good stuff.
4th guild is pvp and TS.
    5th is trading.

In the first three guilds I'm always talking or encouraging conversation, meanwhile in the last two I'm not that visible. As a helping guildmaster in two of them, and another guild being the first guild I joined, I try to get to know everyone and be welcoming to new ones in the family. I want people to stay in the guild or at least enjoy their stay with us. The pvp and trading guilds I'm not that 'personal' in and wouldn't really notice if anyone left the guild.

At the beginning and surface level it's all cool and sweet, we ran dungeons and farm gear for each other.
However, you got to discover their personality and how they treat people down the road.
First, I admire my Gm of having such a long time top trading guild, it sure is hard work and very impressive.
Then when we played dungeons, she kicked a dps out just bcos he's a lower level and slow down the group a little.
I mean that just shows how proud and rude Gm behaves, who doesn't care for other people.
I guess that's also how they managed to kick players out of guild for inactive without any hesitations.
They never apologise for losing the guild trader, or losing the top guild trader spot. When you question them why we changed locations, they never admit they lost the bid, but instead said they don't need to answer us. That's just plain arrogance.
Then I was fed up and rather leave the guild, so I left. It was the best trading guild I've always wanted to get in btw.
Shockingly, I got whispers from Gm immediately after I left, she said "good, don't you ever dream of coming back again".
I mean how childish is that, I left the guild myself why would I ever want to come back in, even if they invited me I wouldn't for sure. Whisper hate is just really immature.
6months past, I believe they forgot me anyway. So two days ago, I listed a purple furniture in zone chat to sell, I received two interested buyer asking how much. I said 20k, that's the lowest of the lowest anyone can find from any guild traders. So one person purchased immediately at the spot. Then the other person said "lmao. Good luck selling that". I find that reply rude indeed for my low priced goods, and I said I just sold one now on the spot as well as a few from my trading guild. Then the person replied with more laughs. Then I read the name carefully, it was the Gm that I left 6 months ago.
I mean honestly, with this kind of pure arrogance and rude Gm, I want no part of it, please out of my life.

If you´re in a trading guild with a guildmaster who never shares/help players out to so that they can get more sellings, and when you ask for tips you always get the most common (non-profitable) tips. That have made me leave some trading guilds a few times.

I rather be poor than being associated with those shameful guilds. Fortunately some awesome free donation based trading guilds at top top trading spots picked me up, those Gm and members are just so so much better and friendlier, I'm donating happily.
    Guilds are interesting.
Oh yea, and that also developed my habit of attacking the particular faction all the time when in Cyrodiil, lol.

One of the co-GMs of my raiding guild is immature and hostile. I am part of the core raiding teams there and are friends with quite a few people in that guild.

That person is the only reason I am considering leaving the guild. I would hate to leave my friends, but this hostility is unhealthy for me. In the same vein, I am staying (for now) for my friends in there.

I have only ever joined a guild that wasn't a trading guild once, and that was a casual werewolf RP guild on EU. So I generally don't pay much attention to who's in the guild, so long as I can sell my junk without issue.

Said werewolf RP guild, however, I was in for a grand total of about three days before I left; most everyone else involved was talking, and eventually devolved into casually flinging transphobic slurs around. I was not impressed, and left soon thereafter.

I'm in one of the top trading guilds and was recently kicked due to a misunderstanding. Or a comment was that taken way out of context.
I spoke with the GM and they were very understanding and excepted me back in. For that I respect them because they handled it well and heard me out instead of dismissing me like another guild. I have no respect for the others and would not go back purely because of their behaviour of how they handle people.

Trade guilds: i totally do not care, might even put him on ignore list - i did that before!! Lotto spam ***- , if im selling and getting paid, no need to look on anything else XD

Other guilds: rarely went to a situation where the guild leader is actually bad, i think those guilds disband first month,,, they have all seem to have the responsibility and ability to manage the guild, but for something like leaving the guild, many factors to be included such as level of understanding between members/friendship/ranks and overall look towards the guild, while guild leader's attitude do matter, but not to extreme levels in comparison to other guild mates

My last Guild had a sanctimonious egotistical child at the helm. Wouldn't pass Crown because it was the only "power" he had. Had grown bitter, twisted and hateful of all content you couldn't complete with Wrecking blows. We tried to take Guild on but he wouldn't have it. So we started afresh and it's great.

Really depends what I am there for and what their actions are.

    For a trade guild.
If the guild was full blown hate speech, abuse etc. I would leave. If it's some people being morons I will remain as I'm not there to be social any way but sell.

If it's a normal guild, I would speak with the GM and if they're happy with a culture I don't like I would leave and find one I do like.

I'm not interested in joining guilds these days, and the attitude of some past guild leaders was certainly a factor in making that decision. There were other factors tho', such as having had my fill of running guilds in MMOs and kingdoms/cities etc in MUDs, such that as I approached my present advanced age I decided it was more relaxing just playing the game without the complication of guilds.

Some past leaders were great, some less so, and in one guild in EQ I resigned after about 5 minutes because of the guild leader telling me exactly how I was to play instead of welcoming me into the guild. A lot of guilds have too many drama queens for my liking, and if the guild leader is one then that's usually a recipe for disaster!

A good GM takes care of his Guild members and makes sure everyone is treated with respect. They handle the bank and distribute responsibility among their officers.

Too many times I've seen GM's neglect their guild or hoard all the power and become overwhelmed. Personally, a GM with good officers that have zero tolerance for drama and dumb bs while keeping that bank full is doing their job.
