Anyone else over Festivals / Anniversaries?

So. Double XP is a grand thing and I have no complaints here. The problem is that all these new Festivals seem to be getting closer and closer together until maybe one day it's just one big long Festival, and they are ruining the gaming experience of myself and many I speak to because of the 'limited edition' collectibles and achieves that they include. I understand the whole 'hidden' philosophy behind this> ZOS wants you to keep on grinding content and keep on playing the game no matter how you enjoy it.

My problem is that I enjoy several aspects of the game. I run my own guild of over 250 members. I like to run the occasional dungeon. But I also like to have as many collectibles as I can. Lately it seems that this is all the game has devolved into. Festival after Festival of 'limited edition' garbage which people like me just can't resist. My guild management is slipping. I haven't been able to run a dungeon in over 6 months due to the incessant desire to have these limited things, and although I fully realise that this is totally my choice, ZOS can we please just have a friggin break to take a breath and actually enjoy the game for a bit. Run a dungeon perhaps. Do a quest or two. And be able to do these things without the hovering dread that maybe I'm wasting time when I should be working on grinding an alt with double XP or working harder to get more limited collectibles.

Yeah, I didn't bother with this one at all. I'm sure I've probably missed out on some nice bits of loot from it - but I didn't enjoy the last one - so just stayed in cyro instead.

They have crammed 4 events into the space of a month which is a tad overkill. I think all anniversary events, excluding the one for the game's release, should only happen once. The festivals need to be retooled slightly but I see them as occurring with a similar frequency to real life events so there isn't too much of a problem.

Events like this are nice addition to the game, especially when there's no new content since months and we still need to wait 2 months until Morrowind.

In the past people were complaining that there are no events in ESO like in others MMOs. Now people complain that there are too many events :D

"Ruining game experience" cause event added few achievements to the game? You don't need to complete them if you don't want. And there's no grinding, you can get all event achievements and items in pretty short time or simply buy them from guild stores.

You can't run dungeons cause of the event? Completing these 3 short quests will take you 5-10 minutes, and after that you can go and do dungeons for 24 hours straight.

    Something is not computing.

You manage guild and you're complaining about these events that takes no more than 30 minutes (or even less) to complete. You can pretty much, like Jester's Festival, have ALL the achievements within that time frame if you're lucky or just depend on guild stores for the recipes.

Seriously.....what have you been doing outside of that time frame? Twiddling thumbs? Sounds like it's your time management that will need to be worked on.

last one almost seemed pointless. My little pony quests. One recipe that was worth something to use and sell and XP bonus (which I'm not complaining about) but unless I was missing something else there was really no point doing it after you had the memento.

Maybe I was silly expecting more variety to come from the repeating a daily. Also if they're are going to give out banners willy nilly to everyone, inlcuding those with no house or need for one they could at least be worth a bit of gold at the merchant or able to given away. Typing 'DESTROY' didn't exactly put me in a festive mood.

I have 12 alts. And the completionist in me wanted the 'Royal Jester' achieve on all of them. That takes a hell of a lot of recipe farming and either 600 Dazzlers or completing the time consuming Wayrest quest 72 times.

All of your arguments are null and void when it comes to people like myself that want to complete these things on all of our alts. It's not a matter of 'want' to as opposed to 'need' to.

I think it's just a combination of that and like others have said, just a ramped up, rng cruel version of the New Life Festival that has me over them as well.

I loved New Life, and I expected to love Jester's Festival.

But Jester's Festival turned out to be a rehash of New Life, only more tedious, more buggy, and with fewer chances for too-rare rewards. I'm not sure why ZOS decided to take something that was really cool but had some flaws and basically copy it with the flaws cranked up to 11.

I like celebrations. I love simple, light-hearted fun. But ZOS is too married to the ludicrous idea that tedious grinds pitting players against RNG with terrible droprates is good game design. People who think that are probably not the people you want designing your lighthearted celebration.

I have actually enjoyed the (unexpected) April Fool's/Jester event. Other MMOs I've played didn't really have one for this particular time of year, though it does seem as if Easter has been celebrated in a couple of the MMOs I've played, despite being lore-killing in [insert name of MMO world here]. Even with the ESO Anniversary (there's an "event?") being just around the corner, it would still be a nice one to have inserted between the New Life Festival at Christmastime and...whatever happens to be planned for the time between now and Halloween.

As a working adult there is a kind of depressing lull after the Christmas holidays. No real 3-day weekends to look forward to, no extended days off from "the grind" of an actual job to break up the monotony. I thought it was nice that this one was tossed out there to give the sense of a holiday where one doesn't really exist otherwise.

For the naysayers, I suspect there will be a (welcome?) reprieve from events after the ESO Anniversary. The next BIG thing will be Morrowind, so I doubt we'll see any more holiday-specific festivities until Halloween rolls back around, but I could be wrong. If I am mistaken, well, I'm ok with that too. The events are relatively brief and I enjoy the temporary changes.

You should check Elder scroll Calendar which ZoS is follow for all the festivals we have are in the calender

    Calendar

    Elder Scrolls Holidays

Which i think is really nice that do atlest the dont do like Blizzard do that just have make up just for the WoW community want that.

I suppose I should clarify. It's not the Festivals themselves that I'm against> I love any excuse to break up the game and have some fun. But wrapping them up in a RNG grind to get the achieves and collectibles makes them not fun. If you're lucky and get them all first run then happy days. But I know people that have done the dailies on several alts and are still to get the full complement of recipes. That's RNG for you. And it can make the game (and the 'Festivities') seem a lot less enjoyable than they should be.

And yes there may have been a break between the two, but inside those was the housing patch and the grind for materials and patterns that came with it. And you're also probably forgetting the TG anniversary event and others. And now there's news of the 3rd Anniversary event and I'm dreading what 'limited edition' collectibles and achieves / titles they might include in this. Please just make it a double XP event and I'll be happy. I can ignore that and get back to the game.

(I've edited the thread name to include all of these events to further clarify my stance).

It is a very dangerous dance for them.

They might get a few more players logging in during festivals so they don't miss out on limited time stuff but it can make the game tedious. And the big danger comes when someone just can't stomach the thought of a festival and skips one. Because once they've skipped one and missed out on any limited time stuff they'll be more inclined to skip future ones.

In the game's defence, you can buy (with gold, not cash) your way around a lot of the grind in these festivals, eg. the rarer recipes or sparklers in this one.

Times like these I am glad I am not a completionist.

I don't care about achievements that don't give any sort of reward. I have better things to do then travel the world for a gold star and a "good job!" Like pvp or pledges.

If something looks fun or useful, I'll go out of my way to get it if it isn't too much hassle. Other than that, I don't care too much about the fluff.

Oh for sure this 'limited edition' crap, especially within the Crown Store has certainly lost themselves a lot of money. I used to buy crowns constantly to keep up with the collectibles. But then they started discontinuing items and thus in a sense made them 'limited' as well. I ended up simply not being able to afford them all when in one month they brought out / discontinued around $1000 dollars worth of collectibles. I lost all interest after that because the full compliment had been broken. I rarely if ever buy crowns anymore. Ingame collectibles and achieves / titles are a whole different kettle of fish of course......

Its a little bit much over a short period of time but i still love those events. Its a chance to do something different and add more content or variety to the game :-)

+ the xp boost is appreciated to level new chars. I would keep them but split then over the year. I would also add some simpler event and simple quest that last 2-3 days but bring fun rewards and no xp boost except the xp from the quest that could be important

I don't mind the festivals, but I can't be asked to repeat the same quests over and over and over again. Especially when they arent very rewarding. This festival I did the quests for a few hours and quickly realised it would a grind. So I dropped it and bought the recipes I wanted later.

I think its cool that zos does these events, but I would like ZOS to make it a bit more fun to do instead of a grind. The halloween one was the best, as the drops came from doing normal content.

This time the drop rates were really, really weird.

Last time I couldn't possibly find enough people to give away the purple recipes to. Weeks after the event I finally just started walking up to players on the newbie islands and opening a trade window and giving them runeboxes and purple recipes and motifs.

This time I didn't get purple recipes for all 12 characters but got lots of runeboxes (which I can't give away - I've tried) and 60-some Festival Banners. I made a flying wing of them in one of my storage houses, it's kinda cool looking.

Now we had the Jester festival. When we had a previous event? In December? And you think it's too often?

This particular statement of yours made me laugh:
I haven't been able to run a dungeon in over 6 months

Getting festival-related collectibles and achievements does not take as long as you described it. You're simply overreacting. I run dungeons/trials, do quests, chat with friends etc. every day and at the same time I have all collectibles and achievements from the events. And I am a working person who has time to play only in the evenings.

If you are so obsessed with obtaining every single thing in this game - it is only YOUR problem. No one forces you to celebrate! Let other people have fun.

what I ended up doing was, after doing the full 3-quest cycle once on each of my toons for the initial achievement, I then just did the stonefalls piggy & pranks in auridon & just skipped glenumbra, because it took so much more time with having to hit 2 different delves, plus dazzlers, for the same loot as the other legs. That way I had time to do 2 quests on more of the toons, & ultimately ended up with more jester boxes that way...
