How to get 100% crit chance on any class in PvP. (Vengeance CP passive needs an internal cooldown.)

Want to wear heavy armor with <30% crit chance, yet chain BoL crits back to back or achieve 80%+ crit chance across a long fight on your 75k health trollplar or mDK?

Ever notice the crit rates on Blazing Shield tanks, or those nearly unkillable BoL magplar tanks (you know the ones)?

Run snb and fight against magicka classes (i.e. any zerg). One magplar jabbing you is enough to proc this passive back to back for 100% crit chance on every global cooldown, as this video shows:

Thanks to my man @usmcjdking for noticing this overperforming passive, doing the testing legwork to isolate it, and putting together this quick video illustrating it in action for you guys. I merely pushed him to make the video after listening to him complain about it for a week so that we can get this issue some visibility.

10 point CP passive in the Apprentice star. Check it out.

I suggest an internal cooldown of at least 5 seconds in order to space out these procs. 5 seconds still feels rather short to me, though, because one proc would be present in every consecutive combo. Combos generally come every 5-7 seconds depending on the class. Thoughts?

I would suggest they first remove the ability for DoT skills that can be blocked (lol jabs) to not proc this first.

Good find, some form of internal CD may be warranted (and should be thoroughly tested to maintain efficacy to avoid making the passive worthless).

Doesn't matter what kind of spell is hitting you if you have a few people hitting you together (i.e. most PvP scenarios). Also mechanical consistency with other abilities would have destro staff light attacks proc this soooo....

Vengeance:
Guarantees your next spell will be a critical hit after you block three spells within 10 seconds of each other.
Unlocked at The Apprentice Rank 10

This effect seems to impact any spell, including ground-based AoEs on a per tick basis. Skills like strife with a secondary effect like a heal, or for example a fire skill that procs burning on its target, can consume the guaranteed critical so you may observe a less than 100% critical chance in testing. Rest assured that this is a very versatile, broken passive, that conveniently favors heavy armor builds and facilitates permablock tanks being able to pick up another role.

Left alone, there really is no reason to not wear heavy as a magicka-based group player in CP. EDIT: @Wrobel

Yeaaaaaaa that is pretty horrible. A decent amount of top tier mag players have been abusing this for quite awhile so I have been told. If we could somehow eliminate magicka users from gaining so much from heavy armor, that would be amazing. Not many mag even think about running light anymore. Heavy should not be nearly as powerful for magicka users as it currently is.#elderstavesonline.

This is a CP passive, not a heavy armor passive. Also, I'm not sure how many players are conscious of this passive's overperformance, but let's not throw shade on people as deliberately exploiting something, please.

Definitely an overperforming passive but I wouldn't say anybody is intentionally "abusing" it. Every magic player has at least 10 points into Apprentice and unlocks this; hell, I didn't even know this passive existed until a few weeks ago but I've had it unlocked since the CP system was introduced.

You're critical chance doesn't increase.

Vengeance guarantees that the next spell you cast will be a critical. Jabs, Force Pulse, or any multi-hit or DOT effect will trigger this passive very rapidly and in succession if they are blocked.

This is most apparent on typical heavy armor S&B builds which rarely have much more than the base crit + thief if they run thief yet they dole out criticals left and right. This passive is negating an entire section of build design because it is providing an absurd amount of criticals as it appears to have no internal cooldown whatsoever.

You can easily reproduce this test at your own leisure and use just about any method on any class and receive like results. As White Mage said though, the critical guarantee can be utilized by any damage source, so it is moderately balanced in massive zerg fiasco's where it dramatically loses it's efficiency if you are primary specced for DPS.

It becomes clearly absurd when, and you are welcome to test, you can chain critical BOL/Coagulating Blood due to this passive until you either A) run out of magicka b) run out of stamina to block. This passive can be joined triggered by one player and does not require a zerg to test, either.

Didn't test with Spell Wall, or with Stamina Skills or against Stamina skills. But in the instance of S&B ulti I can't imagine it working any differently.

I always wondered why I seem to crit a lot on my saptank. I have 32% but it seemed way too frequent. Obviously as I pretty much perma block this is why.

only mag dks (and some niche builds like saptanks) should realistically benefit from that. other builds usually either don't use spells what should crit too much (stam build's magicka dumps like purifying ritual, fear, ign shield, dark deal, streak, etc) or simply cannot realistically afford to block (magplars, magsorcs, non-saptank magnbs).

part from that, while one magplar using sweeps may be enough, there are still plenty matchups where you don't get to block so many instances of spelldamage
