I'm going to assume here, that at some point this have happened

But I guess people who support these bad taste costumes would also have laughed their ass off if the main characters in the Lord of the Rings movies had run around in pink shorts and wedding dresses.
It's a saying that even the gods are helpless when encountering stupidity, and the same applies to bad taste.

I don't pay sub in order to run around in dungeons with clowns. But if u like that, then no point arguing.
ChaosWotan wrote: »Irony is boring now, though it was new and fun in the 90s. But if one should include humour, then it should be good, like Monty Python, not lame.
If ESO continues this trend, the game will look more and more clownish. Just saying.

Others have said that peasants used civilian clothing, but my point is that people don't fight in their finest dresses and costumes. A ball room dress doesn't belong on the battlefield. Anyone disagreeing with that is just a troll.
ChaosWotan wrote: »ESO is starting to look like a bad taste party. Male orcs in white wedding dresses, men in pink shorts, and now many players running around with a silly crown that looks like a cheap toy found within a box of cereals. And let's not forget the chef, jester and dinner party costumes. It is not realistic that clothes like that are used in combat. It's like BF1 should let soldiers dress in a bikini during combat.
Now it's obvious that ESO is catering to those who think that a game should be "ironic", a bit "hilarious" and "LOL", but if ESO wants to go down that path, please create gear that is actually funny, with the same quality as Monty Python, instead of turning combat into a clown act.

But Generation X is known as the ironic generation, and it became more or less the new mainstream in the 90s.
Mostly its an major difference between Asian and Western MMO in that fit in the game setting.I agree with Op somewhat. I know the fear.
I was playing an mmo, I think Tera, and pretty much the week they introduced Police officer costumes and Police officer cars as mounts was when I left.
Op might feel like gimmicky crowns and pink bath towels are a slippery slope toward Earth pop culture infiltrating Tamriel.
I get it.
However we aren't there yet. So far we haven't seen anything that hasn't already been in Elder Scrolls (that I can think of atm). In the interest of catching the most fish, they aren't likely to put gender restrictions on things (don't get me started on race restricted items in the crates).
So OP, I think the devs are trying their best to allow for fun but not let it go to school girl outfits and butterfly wings. So far. Now is not the time to panic that they are making a mockery of this much loved IP, save it for when they really get out of hand.
Edit: furthermore I think OP has the right to criticize the quality of the 3D model. Maybe it does look like a shiny plastic molded crown and they could change some textures and specular maps to make it look more like wood and painted iron.

They do.ChaosWotan wrote: »The only thing I'm trying to tell the devs, if they care to listen to us gamers, is this: whatever you design, be it crossdressing or not, please make it cool and elegant, not cheesy. Create art.
