you wont make it very far as a selfish tank

Selfish tank taunts and debuffs and is maybe a min/max tank. A min/max tank would be wearing sets that give the group bunus aether ebon/Alkosh or the former darling build if tavas and dragon.
A min max tank would maybe wear chudan set and plague doctor over bloodspawn(for magma armor or warhorn) and ebon armory. If you're you're greedy tank then you would rather have more armor and health for yourself rather than resources for your group.

A good tank should be able to survive on his own without much help from the healer, and also help buff the team offensively and defensively. Ebon/Alkosh is a good setup but is more useful in trials than dungeons; Tava's/Dragon is much better for dungeons for the extra damage buff.
If you're new to tanking, go with neither of those. Don't follow a guide. Just put on some resistance heavy armor sets and just go at it. Gotta be selfish and learn how to survive on your own before you can start being selfless.
Why not? Hell we cleared vMoL with a speed run with the main tank drunk with 15 shots of fireball.. The objective of playing a game is to have fun I believe..
EDIT: Sorry just got confirmed it was 17 shots..
I'm thinking about a fish tank build but haven't found the proper sets for that yet...
