I would love to dye weapons (or paint them, or whatever you want to call it to make sense in your head to change the colour).

    Please.

I want a sword coloured sword. Not a red sword.

This is mostly an incorrect statement. There are a few high level motifs that alter the look enough to hide the material, like the factions and glass to some extent. However the vast majority still showcase the material tier. You can always check eso-fashion.com to see photos of specific pieces in different teirs.

If he wants a gray sword, I can make him a gray sword, out of any level material. And from more than one motif.

I have most of the high level motifs...I use them on my characters all the time. And the look is consistent...anything where you have to buy the motif in pieces (as opposed to all-in-one motifs, like Deadric or Ancient Elf or Imperial) will usually have a consistent look independent of the material for the level.

    http://eso.mmo-fashion.com/hollowjack/
    http://eso.mmo-fashion.com/daggerfall-covenant/
    http://eso.mmo-fashion.com/outlaw/

ect....that is not a comprehensive list. There are more than a "few"...I would say probably half the motifs in the game are like this. Those motifs will look the same regardless of material used.

I can actually sympathize with him, because I feel the same way. It's the main reason I made crafting a priority when I started playing years ago...I wanted to be able to make my own gear.

Most of those you linked will show as a colored tier. You need to click on the different tab to see it, like 10 is Rubedite. All that you listed will show the material except a again for the factions specific. The page links default to iron. I can go and craft most of those right now, and any made with Rubedite will be red, Voidsteel will be violet, et cetra. The Ancient Elf, Primal, and Dwemer styles will muddle the color a bit but it is still there.

Maybe I am doing it wrong, but all these show the materiel tier to me:

    As a side note....

I invite anyone who would love to see some form of colour changing on their weapons.. to write a /feedback in game on it whenever you are in game next.

Rumor has it they read those ;) (and here too, but those are important too)

It breaks immersion for me. I know there is a portion of the population that would love everyone to look like glowing disco balls. There are lots of MMOs that do that stuff already. Sometimes less is more.

Good to know that option is there. I actually would not mind that sometimes.

But by default, they all look the same regardless of level. I have crafted stuff from those motifs for all of my characters, which range in level from 1 to Champion 140.

The option to have a weapon look remain static regardless of level is there though. Just not for lower tiered motifs. I consider anything that is not separated by piece to be lower tier (so that includes Dwemer, Imperial, Deadric, ect).

This doesn't explain why iron swords aren't rust colored.

The entire purpose of refining a material is to remove it of contamination.

Refining Rubedite should remove the awful red mineral causing the color, leaving the raw, gray metal to itself.

I just crafted a handful of 150 swords, including Minotaur, Hollowjack, DarkBrotherhood, Thieve's Guild, and Assassin (the high end styles) all of which came out red. Where is the option to have them not show that materiel?

Not all metals are grey. They come in a wide variety of colors even when 99.9% pure.

I don't know...for me they come out "normal" by default. Until now, I did not know there was even an option to change the color by material.

It's not an option @Sadistic_Savior ... it's just how it is. The material determines the level.. but it also determines the color.. so yeah... like 99% of CP150/CP160 weapons are red. Only odd ones like glass and such aren't.

But its not that immersion-breaking really as the colour of the weapon is based on the colour of the ore. And in Tamriel, the ores come in a variety of colours. So of course the weapons would reflect this.

Asking for a grey sword IS immersion-breaking as it is what you expect from IRL.

Um... what? Rubedite is red, not contaminated.

You know... like gold is gold colored, not some silvery metal contaminated with yellow stuff.

Swords in real life did have different coloured blades b/c of the metals used to create it.

And also in real life those same swords can be shaved down, and painted over and cooled using a clay material to actually give swords the silvery gray Shine that is so common on swords. You can have this paint any color really, it would just look very different from your idea of what swords look like

    The more you know.

And if locking colors for an item is difficult, just have those invalid colors have no effect.

Come on ZOS give us dye-able weapons and remove the 1 dev limitation you are self imposing.

Seriously, this is a good point. Have you ever tried to die a Celestial robe? The bulk of the robe just refuses to take most colors, leaving you to decide which shade of brown you want. (Thank goodness it does take green. I really didn't want my main to be wearing sackcloth.)
