RNG and random vs arbitrary, we need progress.

aside before we start, can we get weapon dyeing already, thanks!

so ESO really needs some sort of progress system for the majority of its content other then just RNG, vICP and vWGT both would lead you to believe they have a kind of token system in place but its actually just another RNG system on top of the original, you get a bonus roll after a while.

the RNG in this game is actually some of the worst I have ever seen, and this game actually relies on said systems far less then other games within the genre as a main form of holding onto players so I don't understand why its soooo bad.

@Vaoh vWGT/vICP chest RNG calculation https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/316400/am-i-calculating-this-correctly-0-242-drop-rate-on-the-sword-i-want-and-i-need-two-fix-rng-plz
TLDR 0.242% drop chance of a specific item

@sluice VMA drop chance https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/288027/veteran-maelstrom-arena-vma-drop-table-and-probability-for-shadow-of-the-hist
TLDR 1.04% drop chance of a specific weapon

shout out to math wiz @Recremen

this is all INCREDIBLY bad and arbitrary. there is no form of progress with this kind of RNG and the randomness is so huge it cannot even be called random and must be called arbitrary.

(randomness has a coefficient or randomness, in simple dice terms 1d4 is random, 1d100 is arbitrary as the chances just get further and further away from possible or predictable you eventually just stop caring or trying)

this creates a serious feeling of lack of progress, and can hurt the experience and burn the players.

adding in an actual progress system (some refer to a token system but this is only one kind) would go a long way into helping and actually breathing new life into many aspects of the game that are avoided or loathed because your chance of actual progress is so arbitrary there is just no point.

so please add some form of progress system that makes every run worth it even if we don't get what we want from RNG that after a number of attempts we will eventually get what we SPECIFICLY want. not just another roll at the arbitrary dice like vWGT and vICP.

thanks to all those that crunched the numbers before me <3

    I wonder if you enjoy the noise of all those points whooshing over your head?

    the point about random is that it isn't predictable. any reasonable definition will include something like...

    no predictable pattern.....

    explains random better then I could.

    also, random is good, we just need to be able to make progress as well.

    that vid they kind of get off track and talk specifically about the delta of randomness only as it relates to CCG's

    but the point is this.

    having tiny percent chances are very arbitrary, the best player can run VMA hundreds of times and get nothing, and they are also no step closer because there is no progress mechanics, a new player getting through it once might get exactly what they are looking for and be done, because its that random.

    now over the course of 1000 VMA rune everyone might even out, but we don't play VMA 100 runs at a time, we see it 1 run at a time.

    the delta of RNG on loot drops in a lot of specific content is too wide and too random.

    for sake of argument having some kind of token system where every time you ran VMA you got 1 token, when you got 10 or 20 of these tokens you got to spend them at a shop that had every possible reward weapon at every possible trait, so you could get what you wanted.

    now even RNG is great or poor your not as dependent on it and always making progress every VMA you complete even if you didn't get what you wanted.

    that said having more desirable traits then 1 of 9 might go a long way as well -_-

    Yes, various options, I would keep the drops, perhaps lower them a bit, but also add tokens, might let you select between reward chest or token to. Tokens could be used at an vendor or perhaps an crafting station to get the item you want, latest would also let you choose style :)
    Grinding just make you go in circles.
    Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
