Eso racism getting out of hand

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom - the OP was specifically saying people were receiving regular communications from multiple sources containing sexism, racism and encouragement to commit suicide. Can you actually say that people who do this get more than a couple hour suspension for these things? What is the general protocol on your end for dealing with these things?

I have been insulted plenty of times as well as given threats and suggestions that I should "KYS" by many salty individuals in PVP. Friends of mine have also received bigotry, racist, misogynistic messages from the same people. We report, but we rarely see action. They know with the naming and shaming policy they are shielded with anonimity.

Despite this, I still report the incidents, because sometimes ZOS does get fed-up and does something. After the players are banned we normally get an enjoyable week in PVP while they write up half hearted apologies or make another account.

I think if ZOS remove someone like this and everyone's enjoyment of the game improves, that should give you business incentive to make sure that bad element doesn't return.

In three years, I have seen a handful of zone chat or whispers of hate. I usually respond with "Does your Mommy know you are using her computer again?" And they either go full balastic or silent.ive reported two with a screenshot, but of course don't know what happened.

I understand your concern and I dislike it as well. Just as in any game I hit "ignore". NO need to get upset over dumbarses who put down on others to make themselves feel better. I've heard stories from guildies about players raging in normal Dungeons. Can we build a wall and keep the cancer out XD

I once called an Orc "milk-drinker" because he refused my duel request.

Pretty sure I called someone "S'wit" and "N'wah" too.

    Does that count?

I advocated for the genocide of khajiit and Argonians one time...said something about how the only thing they are good for is slaves. I got called a racist for that lol. (and by more than one person).

Yes, you can be a racist for oppressing completely fictional races now.

This one would also call you racist if he was in that position. Advocating genocide on the Khajitti people is not something nice, yes? Khajitti people are just honest merchants who have wares to sell, we make everyone happy, yes?

Argonians, on the other hand, this one does think that they will make excellent slaves. Especially maids. This one has a dream that one day, he will have his own Argonian maid who can clean his sword all day.

The same thing people should be doing in real life if they hear something that displeased them: ignore the person. If enough people stopped coming to the internet to cry about the mean things they hear and just ignored the offender, the world would be in much better shape and with fewer "bullies". With no one to hear or care there will be not much point trying to spew hatred, trust me. Snowflakes keep feeding the trolls with tears though, so we have this.

Has any one suffered racist remarks, comments, sexual comments, sexist comments. If so what did you do about it. And was the matter resolved ?

The reason I ask this is that a close friend of mine has been pvping a lot. And as a result he receives a lot of racist comments to say the least. He is not the only one, people suffer from a variety of issues. Ausburgurs syndrome. Self confidence. Interacting with others as not feeling accepted or being ridiculed due to mental state. Where certain players do not see the funny side as there health does not compute the humour eg telling a player he is not good to put politely and socialy uninteractable. But that player takes it literally that the person who made the comment that they are correct which leads them to be depressed and feel they are not socialy acceptable.

    Reference to mentaly challenged
    Reference to ancestors
    Reference to slave trade
    Reference to sexuality
General moral damaging comments. He has logged his concerns and awaits the result if any. But what about whispers in chat how are they noted, reported

This seems to be common in pvp. Especially when a player is doing well. To give a example another friend became emp. All he got was whispers of threats and whispers of tellung him to do harm to himself

I ask is this not acceptable and what can be done eg whispers as this seems to be on the increase and has a effect on players moral and questions there whole playing of the game. These guys that receive theses comments are nice guys so why I ask

Please add comments and thoughts as I belive this is a big topic in online gaming eg tamriel one

What? Um, the answer would, 99% of the time, be zero. What platform are you on? On PCNA, even in the worst zones, in the worst times, that is not common. I mean, I hate the zone chat on those areas because of all of the ignorant political bull****, but I'm not seeing slurs on a regular basis anywhere. And when there is they are very likely to get jumped on by a bunch of people.

Is this on PC or console? My sister sees a lot more on PS4 than I do on PC. I think it might be the average users age that accounts for the difference. Still have a few trogs on PC, but console seems worse. In voice chat, it comes across as a 20 something male that still lives with their parents.

Here comes the people defending this type of behavior saying you can just block/ignore. You tell a bullied kid in school to just ignore bullies? To walk another way to the cafeteria so he won't bump into the bullies? By just ignoring you're making this type of behavior acceptable and others may start behaving the same way.

Ummm no. You hand them a warning, if done again, you give them the permaban! If your parents wasn't able to raise you right you have no business playing a game with thousands of other people.

The difference here is that in RL you dont have the ability to click 2 buttons and the person goes mute or disappears.

Im not excusing or defending bullying Ive been bullied most of my life and it sucks.

That being said. Online you do have the ability to click 2 buttons and they disappear and cant bother you. If you're not willing to do something that simple but are going to write long dissertations on the forums crying about it you're a part of the issue at that point because Said people have accomplished what they set out to do. Cyber bullies can only accomplish their bullying if you allow it. the ignore feature defeats their ability to bully you and if everyone ignores them or enough people ignore them theyll leave because they are not getting that need filled. its not defending the bullies its common sense.

Actually no its not. I play on PC NA and pvp almost every night when I am on. I have honestly been whispered "good fight!" more often then I have anything salty. It seems to me you get more negative whispers if you tbag or send them yourself. I spend my time fighting not talking smack and if I ever get anything rude I just put them on ignore instead of engaging them.

Also, why should someone have to ignore it? It's against TOS - it's against just about any game's TOS. Why should the burden be on the recipient of this vitrol, rather than the bully? ZoS has the ability to do something to stop this - or at least curtail it greatly. If people realize they'll be banned for being a racist, they won't be a racist.

"If people realize they'll be banned for being a racist, they won't be a racist"

That portion of your reply is incorrect and this is why.

Yes people who are reported might get banned. And your Report just might be the nail in the coffin that bans them. If you reread my reply I never said you should not report them. I'm saying that along with reporting you should ignore them. it takes all of two seconds and makes it so they cant continue to bully you while you choose to report or not.

The problem is that right now I'm pretty sure like 97-99.9999% sure that the cyber bullies know they have the chance that they will get banned for their conduct and bullying in game. They have probably been banned in multiple other games for the same thing. Its simple cause and effect.

    They don't care.

They are bullying to fulfill a need and will continue to bully to fulfill that need. They get banned oh well $11 and they are back into the game with a new account doing it again or They get banned they just go to another game and do it again on that game.

People are going to be the way they are regardless Its your job to decide if you're going to allow them to succeed at what they want or if you are going to keep that power. Its taken me 20 years to learn that lesson being bullied by co workers, classmates, Teachers, bosses. In Real life its harder to get away from the bullying and it leaves a impact. On a game all it takes is you using your power that you have and clicking 1 button.

They can't bully a person that don't care about them. IF nobody cares, there will be nothing for them to do. We can't change others but we can change ourselves, since OP is the one feeling bothered because bullies then it's in his best interest to change his attitude, as someone said above you can make the problem go away with two clicks on ESO. If a person wants to waste their life trying to change others, fair enough, their problem. Ignore idiots saves a lot of time and quality of living though.

Want to know a sure fire way to resolve the issue? Place the person on your ignore list and you will no longer hear from this person. Heck it will be like they aren't even in the game anymore.

You could always report them to zos as will as placing them on ignore list. I just find it to much of a hassle.
Honestly if someone is bothering you that much and you don't place them on ignore then it must not of really been that bothersome. And if you did place them on ignore then problem solved and I really don't see the point of the post.

We already have a perfect feature in game just for this. Why waste time doing something that can already be accomplished by each individual player.

Because while you can block those individuals, it doesn't send the same message. Hate speech of any kind should never be ignored. IE pre WWII Germany, 30s and 40s America. If those doing such things aren't dealt with, they will continue doing the same things to other people. Silence isn't always the best policy. Those who use that language see silence as it being ok to continue that behavior.

As to the OP, follow the suggestions and have him screen shot and report. If you witness any I would suggest you do the same. And follow up with the automated email.
