Eso racism getting out of hand

Has any one suffered racist remarks, comments, sexual comments, sexist comments. If so what did you do about it. And was the matter resolved ?

The reason I ask this is that a close friend of mine has been pvping a lot. And as a result he receives a lot of racist comments to say the least. He is not the only one, people suffer from a variety of issues. Ausburgurs syndrome. Self confidence. Interacting with others as not feeling accepted or being ridiculed due to mental state. Where certain players do not see the funny side as there health does not compute the humour eg telling a player he is not good to put politely and socialy uninteractable. But that player takes it literally that the person who made the comment that they are correct which leads them to be depressed and feel they are not socialy acceptable.

Reference to mentaly challenged
Reference to ancestors
Reference to slave trade
Reference to sexuality
General moral damaging comments. He has logged his concerns and awaits the result if any. But what about whispers in chat how are they noted, reported

This seems to be common in pvp. Especially when a player is doing well. To give a example another friend became emp. All he got was whispers of threats and whispers of tellung him to do harm to himself

I ask is this not acceptable and what can be done eg whispers as this seems to be on the increase and has a effect on players moral and questions there whole playing of the game. These guys that receive theses comments are nice guys so why I ask

Please add comments and thoughts as I belive this is a big topic in online gaming eg tamriel one

Thank you in advance

If you receive any type of serious abuse, I would recommend to block and then report the person in question. Pvp is known for heavy bad mouthing, but it dose get out of hand and at that point there is just no saving the conversation. You just have to move on.

Feel that they are picking on players and that is bullying and racist comments not acceptable

If someone is using actual racist material then report them and they will be dealt with.

ZOS does take that side of the ToS seriously and I have seen people warned/banned for a number of things relating to chat abuse.

That being said this has to actually be offensive or derogatory words, saying the word for a mentally handicapped person that begins with R may not net someone a ban. However it's on the ZOS customer support member to make that call.

    Ausburgurs syndrome.
    You probably mean Asperger's.

Report it, nothing else you can do about it. Out of curiosity, how does anyone in the game know your friend's race? Or are they commenting on his character's race?

This is against the TOS and is one of the things they take a closer look at than others.

    A couple suggestions:
    * Have your friend screenshot everything and make a note of the day/time. I mean everything.
    * Every time this happens, have him open a ticket - and then open a ticket yourself. The more people speaking up, the more likely mods are to step in and do something. Don't just report it, give as many details as possible.
    * If it was just one or two people, I'd say do this and block - but your friend shouldn't have to block half of cyrodiil to be able to play.
    * If nothing happens, print out your paper trail and send it via snail mail to ZoS - physical mails tend to be taken more seriously than e-mail.

I'm sorry that this is happening to your friend. To answer your question, I've seen a general rise in hate-speech in the US, specifically related to racism and sexism, but I'm a hermit online.

I call people "Filthy Lizards" if they are Argonian, but that's as far as I go. I've been teaching my young teenage son to ignore hateful comments, as he likes to game online and would get upset over name calling. Now he either ignores or screenshots and reports, depending on the severity.

Want to know a sure fire way to resolve the issue? Place the person on your ignore list and you will no longer hear from this person. Heck it will be like they aren't even in the game anymore.

You could always report them to zos as will as placing them on ignore list. I just find it to much of a hassle.
Honestly if someone is bothering you that much and you don't place them on ignore then it must not of really been that bothersome. And if you did place them on ignore then problem solved and I really don't see the point of the post.

We already have a perfect feature in game just for this. Why waste time doing something that can already be accomplished by each individual player.

Here comes the people defending this type of behavior saying you can just block/ignore. You tell a bullied kid in school to just ignore bullies? To walk another way to the cafeteria so he won't bump into the bullies? By just ignoring you're making this type of behavior acceptable and others may start behaving the same way.

Ummm no. You hand them a warning, if done again, you give them the permaban! If your parents wasn't able to raise you right you have no business playing a game with thousands of other people.

EDIT: Ignoring/Blocking is an option yes. Is it helping the community though? Not really. These hateful people will continue spreading their hate to another person when he/she is done with you. People can say whatever they want about me. I can handle it. But not everyone can. I will have anyones back if you are being discriminated in-game for your race/sexual preferences/sexism. I don't tolerate that kind of BS. An ignore button is not enough for me. I will go on a Making-Sure-You-Get-Banned-Purge.

People are ignorant worldwide, cannot change anyone. Simply save the conversation and report it with evidence maybe? One less of those people to deal with. I have a friend that get's personally messaged and taunted at as a girl from time to time, comes with the territory? All you can do is report and save for evidence. They need help.

Until the world goes Big Brother 1984 and we're all under unrelenting surveillance and control, your best bet for dealing with the stupidity on the internet is to:

    1. Ignore it
    2. Report it
    3. Or, Return to sender

You need to remember and internalize this: these people are complete strangers, they don't know you at all, and are literally trying to say anything they can to *** you off.

They are nerd-raging without a filter.

Once you accept that, it becomes easier to brush it off. They're the ones with the problem...like taking a video game way too seriously.

About people saying 'just ignore them' - that works if it's one or two people who are casually harassing someone. It doesn't work if it's a lot of people, or someone who is determined to get under someone's skin.

And if ZoS made a concerted effort to say 'no, this isn't ok, have a ban/suspension for the isms', people would start thinking before they talked/typed. It would take a while, it wouldn't be 100%, but it could help.

While most of the people playing ESO PvE and PvP are great people there are some who make us question if the Neanderthal is truly extinct.

The reality is with distance and anonymity some that are not happy with were they have brought their own lives will bring their personal frustration out on others. They would never have the courage to confront anyone like that in real life.

Tell your friend to place them in ignore and be done with it.

MMO's are not for people with thin skin.

Rule 1: Never give out personal details about yourself online. PVP'ers are like police officers, anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of cryodiil.

Lol in school you can't place someone on ignore list. That analogy was horrible. You have complete control over who you interact with in eso. If you choose to interact with people who abuse you then that is on you.

A kid being bullied in school doesn't have that option, he has to go to school. Also someone being bullied in person has the possibility of being physically harmed. Surely you see the huge flaws in your analogy. You have complete control with who you interact with online.

I am not defending anyone actions, but rather pointing out a very obvious solution. If people choose not to take action by placing the person on ignore then I would wager it must not of been bothering them very much.

There is a reason most game note that they can't place a rating on online gameplay. But nearly every game I have played place the option in the players hand, by allowing them to ignore/ block the person. If you choose not to that is on you.

Unfair statement about Neanderthals. For a groovy enough species to look at *** Sapiens and say "hey baby" I think we can give them a pass.

Totally! I was exaggerating a little lol.
But I do think these people shouldn't be playing a game if all they do is spreading hate. Others will start doing the same thing if it seems acceptable to behave that way.

Warning -> Permaban. I don't know about Microsoft. But SONY always has everyone's back when it comes to hate against sexual orientation or racial discrimination in-game <3
