Soloing group content, Magplar or Stam Sorc?

With the cap on healing/shields for a mag sorc, there's difficulty with large beefcake trash packs that a magplar (heavy) can just laugh at with sweeps. Sweeps healing scales to the number of attackers.

But a magsorc has the tools to laugh at a lot mechanics and is the best ranged damage option. And yes, petsorc is the best at getting completion on the most difficult content. I just hate pets in this game

Stam sorc does the most damage while staying survivable, and has good options for those same trash packs (brawler for really hard and tornado for everything else). It's not like you can't carry a 2h for some encounters and DW for others. I always take a stamsorc for solo farming

I find Chudan to be the best example of something hard to solo without prohibitive mechanics. Although dodge rolling his poison attack is rough on magicka builds. It's just a shame that the remaining bosses have mechanics that prevent soloing really

    1. Equip sword-and-shield on one bar with the reflect morph of the sword-and-shield ultimate. (Or just slot your flappy wings if you're a DK.)
    2. When he's about to spit, get your reflect up.
    3. Watch your DPS skyrocket as the insane spit damage is reflected back.
    4. ?
    5. Profit!

Or slot purge since he said he's mag.

Honestly, I think I'm just having more fun with Magplar at this point. My problem is that I know eventually I'm going to hit a wall, and it's going to drive me nuts. "If I had picked class X I could have solo'd this." =/

I suppose I do have another question...

Will I be able to play MagSorc with a messed up hand? That's part of the reason I'm enjoying MagPlar right now, it's very easy to play. Spear, emergency heal, staff aoe and class aoe let me more or less walk through anything outside of WB's with ease.

That said, I saw a Sorc only a level higher than me easily take out a WB while I was having issues even denting it since spears couldn't keep up with the damage, emergency heal drained my magicka too quickly, so I was forced to basically try and kite it in circles. I even thought to ask if they had CP and they said they did not...so...the difference seems pretty large >.> Maybe this gets better at higher level when Templar gets better regen, shield, etc. but all the sorc seemed to need was pet and patience.

Maybe I just have grass is greener syndrome sometimes? It's certainly possible.

I ran into this a few days ago with the final boss in Rkindaleft. I had (unfortunately) run out of potions right before I hit this boss, and he just crushed me.

I only gave it a few tries before I logged for the night, and I know that just being a little smarter about dodging his attacks would probably have been enough to get me through it, but I found myself thinking "I'll bet a MagSorc could have breezed through this without even really trying."

Sure enough, when I logged back into his room last night, I happened to zone in right as a Sorc was attacking him... solo... with his pet tanking and him just easily blasting away.

I think what I'm finding (I'm only level ~40, so still not at cap with skills) is that Magblades are definitely strong, solid characters; running Refreshing Path + Swallow Soul allows you to take a lot of beating and gets you though a lot of content even when your gear is underleveled. But it requires more skill and situational awareness on the whole, and I'm starting to think that for a lazy, super-casual player like myself a Sorcerer is probably more my speed. :D

(Plus, I've just finished the Thieves' Guild content, and honestly? I think I kinda hate Stealth in this game outside of Cloaking past mobs. It feels like if you haven't built for it - Bosmer/Khajiit with stealth-enhancing gear and Medium armor passives - you're just constantly playing a game of "hope the pathing NPC doesn't wander my way while I'm forced out of stealth to pick a lock."

Also: Heists are lame. The timer requirement makes it less about being sneaky, and more about memorizing NPC AI movements and rushing through empty areas. So unless the Dark Brotherhood content re-ignites my passion for being a sneaky criminal, I'm probably going to roll a MagSorc or Magplar and continue "The Ultimate Lazy Unskilled Noob's Quest for Stupid Easy PvE".)

I'm still not sure I would go Magsorc honestly, I'm still leaning towards Stamsorc if I play a sorc, although it;s obviously easy enough to swap back and forth. That situation with watching somebody else soloing something you can't (or weren't able to at the time at least) is just so incredibly disheartening.

That said, I did find my Magblade could do heists quite easily. Were you using concealed weapon + PvP sprint + invisibility? You can basically go through with almost zero issues.

Magplar, Stamsorc and Magsorc are all so good for solo that it s really down to wich you like the most. Same goes for 2H with brawler vs DW, a "pro" will go faster with DW but both just work.

About Magplar's magicka consumption mine is Breton, I have almost too much sustain in vMA that I'd like to trade for smtg else. Also if at some point you want to turn him healer, it's a good choice.

Concealed Weapon + Cloak + 3p Night Terror to reduce stealth cost/radius.

It's not that Heists are hard - they're just annoying. I find it a little stupid that the most efficient way to get through them is to just dash in full cloak mode, pausing only to dodge blue rings. I also find it annoying that it's timed; stealth to me isn't about doing things quickly - it's about doing things quietly.

I'd much rather they were changed, such that there was no timer, but you receive a higher reward the more items you steal, and if you're discovered even once multiple guards pour onto the scene, and you're either overwhelmed, or you have to rush to find a hiding spot. (And "hiding spots" shouldn't be giant, obvious, stupidly placed Massive Baskets of Unsubtle Concealment, but rather corners, niches, or other more realistic concealment.) Likewise, they could heavily penalize you if you're spotted ("you have to pay more bribes").

I guess my point is that I think stealth is just poorly implemented in this game, period. :/

Anyway, that's completely irrelevant to your thread. I put a pause on my Magblade at level 39, and decided to roll a Breton MagSorc. I considered a Magplar, but I couldn't really see how a well-built Magplar would ultimately perform any differently/better than a well-built Magblade. (I.e. - you're still healing through damage, positioning is key, etc.)

Stamsorc. High damage, passive heals from all critical damage, easy sustain.

Magplar. Mediocre damage, passive heals from one damage attack, semi-difficult sustain.

Just my opinion from playing both. Really depends on what kind of content you want to solo. Outside of some vet hard mode dungeon one-shot mechanics, or dungeons that require group mechanics, Stamsorc can easily blow through them.

Stam sorc definitely. Templars by far the most boring and no where near as good as mag sorc, magblade or Stam Sorc for dps

Some of the die hard magplars will tell you otherwise.... aww bless them
