Money is so easy to make in this game, so I immediately spend my gold on things I want/need and don't sweat the loss. As a result I am always sub one million.

Yup! Why i have a lot of in-game money. I really only play on 1 Character. Playing on several will make you go broke :p It's like having kids. It's expensive as hell to have more than one lol

You know, I thought that having an alt would give me additional storage slots. After all, people call them "mules". But this guy has his own needs: light armor, crafting mats, etc., and has only made matters worse. :)

I believe people have more gold on consoles than pc atm, one pic I saw someone with 55m highest i've seen at all times on the Xbox 1

This economy is like any other. You have a lot of people that are broke, you have a growing number of millionaires, and a few people with so much gold it's insane. Bill gates is a millionaire 85,000 times over, just as an example. I dont know of any actual billionairres in eso, but it honestly wouldnt surpise me if there were people getting close. There are certainly people in the 9 figure range.

Rumor is there were grand overloads that made close to 100 million just on selling scrolls on patch day. I saw one with almost 40 million in sales the first week of patch, and that's just from one trader. I know he was selling them in zone and guildchat as well, so god only knows what someone like that is worth.

1M is not much these days, think I have that much on me something like 950k in bank and chars 20k on them each. One can easily spend more than that if trying to buy end game gear from shops. In PC EU I think Blobs still has well over 100M.

I named mine Mula; she is champion level and master of several crafts now.

I caught back up though, once you get all the alts for your alts finally situated it just takes time. Like kids, they do grow up eventually.

I've just broken the 3m mark and just been giving some of my fellow guild members writs to spread some of that wealth around. Very lucky that I have ended up in a guild populated with people who went out of their way to help me when I had next to nothing in the game. Time to help those in the same position that I was in.

Even when you felt like a freeloader receiving all that stuff, they would still return any mail I sent with my thank you fee attached to it.

Full disclaimer, I bought a scroll for a million gold. Here is the problem. It was like that on the PTS, and there were a handful of other Cyrodiil achievements that could be sold as well. There was no way to know it was an exploit for the first few hours it went live. By that evening, they had said they were going to patch it. Considering these things were selling like hot takes the second the patch dropped, can you really blame a grand overlord for taking advantage of it? Now once they said they were going to fix it, it is arguble that any scrolls purchased after that were in fact an exploit, but how do you know which was which. Furthermore, if you were a GO that bought 100 of these with the intent to sell, and then 5 hours later they say they are removing it, why should you be left holding the bag?

I do agree that it was a bit obscene as it was a huge transfer of wealth to a few people, but I am not sure I agree that it was an exploit.

I hope that the first person to hit 2^32-1 gold doesn't earn one more gold and see his bank account roll over to 0. :)

If you do writs and get a master writ for many vouchers, I'd recommend selling it. I got one for 101 vouchers and managed to sell it for 750k, and I probably could've gotten even more.

Wow. You must play on PC. When Homestead dropped on XBOX, the prices were immediately "only" about 4K per voucher. I think that the fact that the market on PC had already softened after a few weeks and that XBOX players knew it would settle down closer to 2K per voucher meant that even right out of the gate, people were unwilling to pay a lot more than that. It's possible today to buy them for 2-2.5K if you find a very motivated seller, but they still sell for close to 4K a lot of the time.

What? When homestead first dropped I was selling for 10k per voucher on the 30 to 50 voucher writs. On xbox na. They are still about 2 to 4k per.

Yeah, I thought they already knew from the PTS they were supposed to be BoP, guess they purposely made them BoE for awhile to shift some gold around to other players but dang, everyone should have known they were supposed to be BoP.

Cool. I didn't see anyone get that much. I got one of similar size within the first 24 hours and only got 4K per voucher. But in truth it was hard to gauge the market. Maybe I sold low.

That's because tempers used to sell for 20k+ there. They still sell for 10k+. The console economy has insane inflation due to not having access to Master Merchant and TTC.

But, lets talk about gold. First, you can play this game to play the economy, a perfectly valid thing to do. Have fun with that, you will amass lots of gold through time and effort. But, what are you going to do with it? I am willing to bet you have not maxed out your bank bag spaces or your character bag spaces or your horse riding skills? And probably not on multiple characters. That alone is the biggest gold sink in the game, horses and bags. I did not break 100K for the entire first year because I was upgrading bags and horses on multiple characters. It is only in the last 18 to 24 months or so that I went from 1M to 7M.

I have had maxed out bank space and bag space on several characters for over 2 years now. I maxed out the bag space on alts and mules this winter and am almost done with Riding lessons on my last of 12 characters right now.

My point isn't to brag, rather to state that if you have been playing since launch and are even nominally involved in a good trade guild or two you can have all that stuff maxed out and still have bought a mansion or two by now. :)

*All of that was just to let new(er) players know that the biggest 2 factors to getting "rich" in ESO are --- length and amount of time played, and join a good trade guild.

All MMOs experience inflation, because there is no limit on the supply of money. It's one of the reason we have gold sinks. I think there has actually been a touch of deflation with housing, as it sucked a lot of gold out of the economy. Definitely a good thing.

Mostly agree, but some MMOs put a significant emphasis on the community market and hire economists to aggressively do things like tweak gold sinks and drops in response to changes in supply and demand. You can look up the price history of Guild Wars 2 items, for instance, and while they've certainly changed over time due to balance and the like, desirable items generally don't show a huge upwards trend over time.

The downside to that approach is that it can feel like fun and rewards become beholden to the demands of the economy, and especially the major players who control a significant chunk of it, which can be alienating to newer/casual players; the gold sinks and low drop rates for desirable items can feel punitive. (For instance, no wayshrines - you pay to travel anywhere in the world, or spend a long time on foot; world bosses only give top rewards once a day; and more.) In a virtual economy, I think some inflation is perfectly fine.

Its depending on the data type used for storing the gold number.

In both Morowind with the fortify inteligence potion loop and in Skyrim with the fortify restoration enchant bug greedy people managed to roll over the 2 billion mark.
