Unwritten Ethical Node Picking Code of Conduct

I say leave the worms! no one cares about not taking a node when someone is obviously about to get it, so let them eat worms and waste their time.

I think several people posting in this thread are missing the point. It's not an issue of entitlement or ownership, it's an issue of manners; more specifically being raised with some. If I see someone heading toward a node / chest and they are closer than me, I will stop and watch them. If they grab it, fine. If they pass it by, I will grab it. If I am closer I will grab it. If they run pass me trying to beat me to it, then they are demonstrating their true inner person; selfish / self centered and being raised with poor values. Treating others with proper manners and respect is a rapidly fading philosophy. There is a saying, 'You can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals", in this day and age I would also extend that to how you treat others in on-line gaming (where anonymity exists). Of course there will be people who do not agree with my philosophy of character, which is why you have the issues being described in this thread and elsewhere. And, unfortunately, you are never going to remove this issue / problem or ever be able to correct it. Because not everybody is raised to believe the same values / morals / etc.

Oh, and BTW, I always completely loot any chest or node, that way it will respawn for the next player. Doing less is another way of demonstrating the above concept.

not true that a node or chest wont respawn if you dont empty it. once it has been interacted with, whether you take something or nothing, it will eventually despawn/respawn. i have watched it happen numerous times.. granted, the despawn/respawn time is much longer than if you just clear it.

You can do anything, from using that sorcerer skill to get to a node faster than that guy to leaving a worm on the node... but I ask you only one thing: Don't use those automatic bots programs so that you can go to sleep and when you return you have 2000 ores and 100 Tempering Alloys. (To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis. Lol...)

I will always report those idiots who *** the game... (yes... it's easy to see when someone is using bots to cheat the game, when leveling, when at dark anchors, when farming materials and etc, etc and etc...)

Imagine 10 or more people in Bal Foyen using bots to farm all kinds of materials... it will already render that map impossible to farm... now imagine on the whole game.... it's ridiculous, and Zenimax has to do something about it (and you too, players... report any bots you recognize out there!)

Surprising (and disappointing) that gamers these days find so many acceptable reasons to ninja nodes. Modern gamers have no ethics.

Over a multi-cultural player base that ranges in age from 7 to 71, manners can be a tough ask.

I do that too, if I'm in an area I frequent. Its funny how many times that person realizes what you've done and repays the favor or lets you have it. The problem is, unless you create a lasting bond at that exact moment, the next butthead will be along any moment.

In the end, doing it for manners, doing it out of politeness, is something you do for yourself because its who you are, but you can't ever count on that from others in a digital community like this one. Attempting to impose one through community activism is like pissing in the wind with your mouth open.

the problem with your rules is that some people inherently "own and lay claim to" everything at all times and rules only apply to you and not them.

that is, they have the mental state of a toddler, if that. Even toddlers can share.

Yeah. It's mainly a courtesy thing. That said I still understand why some players leave worms behind. If you don't have a crafting bag (as none of us did until a certain update), autoloot is off, and you're worried about bag space, you'll probably take the jute or cornflower and go on your way.

Aside, I misread this forum title about five times before I realized it said 'Node' and not 'Nose'.

Happened to me a few times, I didn't see someone heading for the node I just picked, feel kinda guilty afterwards. Usually if I see someone heading for a node I'll veer off to the next one. Plenty for everyone!

I stopped reading here. What do you mean "someone else's node"? I've played this game for well over a year, and never have I've seen a node read "This belongs to Vio'lynne. Paws off!"

I come into the game with the notion nodes are public to all. If I'm wiping out a few skeevers surrounding a node and someone comes along and plucks it, so be it. I'll waste no time plucking a node if I see someone engaged in battle, because I cannot read the person's mind: what if they're just fighting and don't want the node at all? I'm sure not going to send a message and ask!

This happens so infrequently with me, it's a non-issue. I've taken and had been taken from, but never once did I get upset about it or try to tell people not to do what they do best.

Heck, there have been times I spotted a node and started walking toward it and someone runs past me and gets to it first. My fault for not dashing to it.

I think the reason I feel this way is because as soon as I turn around, look! Another node. These don't seem to disappear forever once they're used up.

Psst: In two areas, I have a path I take when I need to farm. The circles are large enough that when I return, they're back, proving there is no reason to get upset.

Just how I see it.

Because its common courtesy when someone is fighting adds on a node to not run in and ninja it. Your own rules of not getting upset if you don't get tl it first certainly apply here. You could just as easily be a nice guy and move on to the next node.

That sums up most players these days....

    I don't think that's true.

    Edit and on topic.
I'm a nice person but to me farming is competitive. We are all there solo with the purpose of farming. I'll forgive anything, it's fair game.
Personally I don't take nodes from people fighting for them, but that's just me. It's okay if others don't share my values.

I try to be well-mannered, because I know it's not pleasant to do the work and not get the reward. I know there are people who think that it's somehow clever to ninja a node, but I'm not one of them.

And I don't particularly mind that people leave worms or ta runes. It's indicative of a lack of consideration, but maybe they aren't aware that nodes don't respawn unless emptied...

I don't even mind when I find a zone stripped clean - because I know that's what someone following me would experience (I'm a ruthless farmer!).

It doesn't even wind me up when I see sorcs bolt escaping between nodes. Let them get there faster, they'll miss the nodes that respawn in between while they are rushing across the map.

I take a karmic approach to farming...

"You sprinted that hard just to beat me to that node? I'll just move onto that next one. Oh look, potent nirncrux!" :)

The only place I farm for ore is in Craglorn, as I like the occasional Nirncrux. Generally the mobs guarding the ore is weak and die fast enough that I haven't yet experienced someone taking the node while I kill the mobs. So nodejacking isn't an issue for me there.

When I farm I clear every node I can see/find. If I find an area that someone else is farming, I'll just find another part of the map to farm.

Only place where nodejacking have reared its head in my experience is in public dungeons, but even there it is rare enough that I'm not really seeing it as an issue yet.

Most fun node to race to IMO: the locked chest in Vulkhel Guard's mansion, behind the bankers. There's always someone looting the normal nodes, and beating them to the locked chest when it respawns while I'm banking is a bit of fun.

I'm the biggest jerk ever when farming nodes, safeboxes, and justice npc's. I intentionally am an *** because I "want" people to get upset and leave. More for me if they do.

All's fair in love, war, and farming. I'll swipe that from right under someones nose and laugh about it when they send me an angry tell.

My personal favorite is when someone gets upset about me murdering an npc they are trying to pickpocket or stealing a safebox they are getting ready to break into.

We're criminals. What about that says lets all play nice and get along? >:)

I don't race people to nodes or chests, I don't take nodes or chests if others are nearby looking like they want them, and I don't care if someone else runs up to claim a node or chest I might be near. It's not worth getting worked up over. The game makes more of these things all the time, there'll be more. I'd rather be a good community member and have a thick skin than waste time getting worked up over something so trivial.

Having said that, if someone throws a fit over something like this and directs it my way, I'm likely going to mess with them.
