Anyways, this zombie game engine is horribly optimized. Hopefully we will see them also implement Vulkan support since Bethesda said they will be supporting it more with the release of Ryzen.
One thing I have come to find out is that LUA memory hitting its cap can definitely cause FPS slowdowns.
And I believe the Homestead patch contributed to this because of all of the additional UI elements it added.
If you're on PC I'd highly suggest you up your LUA memory to 256 or 512. I stopped seeing the vast majority of these slowdowns after doing that.
Another option would be to download Shissu's LUA Memory addon and let it handle it for you.

ESO using the Hero engine has been refuted a long, long time ago. They used it for prototyping art, areas, and game design concepts while development of in-house server/client/messaging code was underway.Edit: Alright, ESO is probably using an heavy modified version of the Hero engine but it is worth to point out that both games with it as a startup, have the same similar problems.
