Does anyone actually think questing is fun?

As the central feature of almost every single DLC and now the Morrowind xpac, does anyone actually enjoy questing? I would think that most people are like me and just skip the dialogue and move to the objective that the all knowing marker tells me to go to. There's no choice, consequence, or impact to any of my actions and listening to dialogue for 5 minutes at a time seems tedious and keeps me away from what I really want to be doing which is killing things.
I'm kind of a small deal!

You'd be wrong. There are a ton of us who are much more interested in the story and characters than in mindlessly going from one objective marker to the next.

I like questing when I am into the story and the writing is good. ESO has some of this quests but unfortunately not that much. I still read every quest at least once to know about the world or zone I am playing in. It's just some kind of immersion. After listening / reading once I am skipping everything. ESO has some really great quests / questlines and stories but most of them are just usual chores you need to do.

I listened to all the quests.

There are a lot of stinkers but many quests are good and funny to boot.

edit: also, did you know there's usually different voice acted lines from NPC's before, during, and after quests are over? The amount of voiced dialogue in this game is staggering.

With my main I can get into the story lines. Some are stupid, some are quite good. But with alts I just cut to the chase if I even do quests with them at all.

Precisely. I have played through the base game countless times and I still enjoy it. I am looking forward to the new DLC for the story and characters most of all.

What the hell do you play this game for if skipping the dialogue? You just want to reach the objective? To what end? Why play MMOs than? Why ESO?

People who say "oh I love the ESO world and lore so much" who also say "oh I skip all quest dialogue" are contradictory morons.

I love questing so much I don't even skip dialogue. Gotta hear all that voice acting.

Yeah that's especially great when you hear all the repeating voices again and again in each zone...

To be honest I need to disagree. They're not. Most of ESOs quest are the usual quest stuff. I wish they would be better. Just voice over doesn't make a quest good / better (in my opinion).

And you would be wrong. The storys are the reasons the quests exist. They have games for people like you, and they are not called RPGs. MOBA's and First Person Shooters come to mind.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yes. The story is great and the voice acting is very good. I find myself too impatient to read books, though I try.

There is so much to do in the game that it can be a distraction from the game. A bit of a paradox. But I try to not get distracted. I still need to do a no click through dialog run for Ebonheart zones.

The main stories might not have different endings according to your actions but the majority of side quests do have. Thats the essence of the TES world

I cant take story and dialogue in MMO's serious. They all have the same general plot. I may be missing out on a gem with ESO's story but there's just WAYYYYY too many quest with WAYYYYY too much dialogue for me to care about.

No problem with questing. I'm on my 8th or 9th time through it now. Also, there are consequences to the choices you make in the Dialogue. One that comes to mind right off the bat is the Mages Quest. If you take the book you get 2 Skill pts. If you choose to cure her you get none. I would not have known this if I had done the quest just once.

I'm somewhat racist when it comes to questing in ESO. If it's some stupid elf or human talking I'll almost always skip through the dialog, but if a Khajiit or Argonian has something to say I'll listen to every world.

I enjoy questing and listen or read through the dialogue. Sometimes I'll skip it if I've done the quest before but that's it.

I enjoyed the Wrothgar storyline, although I was disappointed that you couldn't choose sides.

I'm new to the game and I'm on my first toon, but so far I've also found the Daggerfall storyline interesting - I listen and read the dialog.

If I make an alt, I probably wouldn't listen/read dialog a 2nd time around though.

I can enjoy it but I hate that the game doesn't have the soul of a real SP game.

Our actions don't always translate to any changes to the actual game. Sometimes are choices also don't match up with later dialogue.

The world of course doesn't feel as alive as a TES game.

While I'll admit to having spacebared through some dialogue after running the quest for the 10th time, I love watching new stories unfold and learning about new aspects of the lore. Can't see why anyone would want to miss out on that.

You do have a point about lack of meaningful choices, but hey some sacrifices have to be made in an MMO.

I think ESO's questing is above average, and I'm impressed they've been able to continue doing VO work on them. However, it does seem that their questing stays flat level. Even the climactic quests that bring a close to a major storyline never really hit a big high, or leave you feeling a rush of excitement or satisfaction. I'd like to see them build up better, in some cases intensify more, and would also like some cut-scene action during big moments to really seal the deal.

It is pretty much the only important thing in any RPG for me.

Quality quests with good lore and characters make for a great RPG. But of course, if you skip the dialogue then you won't ever notice the quality of the lore and the characters, and you won't like questing.

It is like if you took a book, flip its pages without reading them, deemed the book "finished" since you reached the last page and then said it was a bad book.
I love questing so much I don't even skip dialogue. Gotta hear all that voice acting.
I still do at least one of Elam Drals's quests every day just to hear him talk.

Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I was lured to ESO from playing the other Elder Scroll games Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim for their story and immersion, so for me yes it is fun and i like to listen/read through every quest, read books that i come across and immerse in the environment, that is what the game is for me but but i do understand how others could care less and just want to power level for PvP or end-game dungeon content as i do that too, i have a toon specifically for role-playing when i'm in the mood and other toons for PvP and Dungeon runs where i just don't care much for doing any immersion play :)

    To each their own.

I do. ESO has the best quests. However...
I would think that most people are like me and just skip the dialogue and move to the objective that the all knowing marker tells me to go to.

Unfortunately there are so many hours in the day and there are those dye achievements for finishing all the alliance quests which I'd like under my belt. I don't skip the dialogue but I read it myself (which I can do very quickly) and generally don't wait for the VO.

And back in the day before dolmen trains it was trying to get to max gear level so I could make myself some nice looking gear.

Maybe one day when I can play in a more leisurely fashion I'll do all those quests again and just listen. I might even do it with Morrowind. Especially if it starts with a scantily clad, husky voiced Dunmer asking me "What's your name?"

As for repeating quests - there are choices in some and it doesn't take much time to progress through dialogue one chunk at a time.

I love immersing myself in the story of quests. I do little personal role playing for the quests most of the time. One Tamriel helped me out alot on that front as i can have my characters start wherever i feel like. Doing the DC zones in the same order was starting to wear on me

Yep. Some more than others, of course. I've done Auridon six times over now, if you include beta, and while there are many quests I now skim, there are certain characters (namely a particular Khajiit agent ;) ) I slow down on just to listen to their dialogue. I'm a sucker for good characters, and this game has quite a few.
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)
