All Furniture should allow deconstruction for materials

I bought a house furnished. It came with all this nifty furniture. Some of the furniture is ugly and I don't want it. I will never use this furniture. I want to replace it with furniture of a different style. I think to myself "Since most furniture is crafted, I'll just deconstruct this furniture and get some materials back for the piece I can use toward future furniture."

I Search and search and search in-game. Can't find any menu that allows me to deconstruct my furniture. ZOS. You expect me to either store this unwanted furniture forever, filling up my Bank with useless crap, or trash it completely? Furniture I paid for? I'm to have zero way of retrieving value back from a purchase?

I foresee some of you saying: "Well, they don't want to flood the market with materials. People will exploit Crown shop buying and deconstructing." It doesn't take a genius to think of a solution to this. You purchase a BOUND furniture, your receive BOUND materials when deconstructing. I believe ZOS Dev's have the talent to code this simple function. Are you telling me these Dev's don't have the talent to do this? Admit they don't have the talent to do this ZOS, and I'll accept your answer.

@ZOS_JasonI @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_GaryA @ZOS_TristanK

If there is a deconstruct menu, please point me to it. If there isn't a deconstruct menu, why has nobody brought this up in the forums yet? Does nobody have a problem with this? The only thread Google brings me is this crazy guy who can't write coherently:

Plenty of people buy furniture and realize it isn't quite what they wanted post-purchase when attempting to place it in their homes. Are they supposed to just take a loss? Can they really be blamed when the preview function doesn't give the buyer a proper view of scale when compared to already placed furniture? It's like rolling the dice with some of these purchases.

i don't want this because if they introduce this system , a lot of player will buy item from the crow store / deconstruct them and sell heartwood or other mats in guild store .

    So?

    That's how markets work.

People buy what they can and find a way to turn a profit from it.

It seems to me if this were so easy to make deconned material 'bound' they would have done this already with Mimic stones being deconned and style stones being sold. However, in the overall scheme of things, ZOS doesn't care because THEY make real money off people buying Mimic stones in order to decon and sell in-game... this wouldn't be any different if implemented. Let people buy furniture, decon and sell in-game because we'd have more materials and prices would drop.

I'd actually be ok with the option to sell materials salvaged from crown store furniture - you can already sell the furniture if you buy a furnished house, so it wouldn't make much difference.

I'd say maybe have a confirmation box if you salvage crown store furniture, just in case someone picks the wrong item. But in general this definitely should be an option.

Great idea. I'm in the same place as OP. Purchased my home furnished and currently have every furnishing it came with filling my bank and inventory because I soon realized how ugly or basic these items are compared to what is out there. I too was baffled when I discovered the only thing you can do with these furnishings is to delete them permanently. I actually considered purchasing a second home to use as a storage unit for these items lol.

Pile them up in the In Room you get from the homestead intro quest.

That doesn't sound like a good return on investment to me. Unless people could get something like 2,000 gold tempers and 10,000 Rubedite out of a $2 purchase, then I don't really see that being a problem. Especially because mats aren't hard to get anyway.

i agree with decon for non-crown furniture in a heart beat.

i was iffy about the crown one but decided to go with yes since you can do something similar with motifs bought for crowns, crown mimic stones and decon for the rare style tokens so... i vote yes.

In theory, I could take a saw to my couch and build a bird house using the wood. I don't see why we shouldn't be able to do this in the game.

OP While I think this is a terrific idea and it would not originally have crossed my mind about the market being flooded, you do raise a particular important point. Which is this will most definitely affect the market negatively.

people who can afford it will buy in the store, decon and use those mats instead of supporting the in game economy.

Thus even if it's bound it will still affect it.

I am in the camp to support this however because say in a year's time, you want to change your home's style. Now you can just decon and get at least some sort of reimbursement instead of just trashing it all as you stated. HOWEVER

Should they introduce the home storage ( for furniture especially ) then there would be no need for this because you can just store it there. For a rainy day & hope your ceiling doesn't leak

As an aside to the OP, why would you store your unwanted furniture in your bank? I purchased apartments/small houses for that purpose. And as an added bonus, it basically gives you the preview you want for if and when you decide to use it later.

I purchased those small apartments too, I just have too much furniture left over that I don't want. It all won't fit in those three mini-apartments without serious overlap lol. I have put quite a few unwanted pieces in them though.

I really don't want to destroy them, then two weeks after they release a way to deconstruct them.

The system could also allow for cheap furnishings to drop from mobs for the purpose of deconstruction. Similar to how useless armor and weapons currently do.
