Yup. To add, it is particularly useless to show houses you do not own.

I used that feature frequently when i was looking at houses to buy so... no not useless.

That's not the way it should work. Since they want you to buy these things, you should be going to it from the Crown Store. At best, it should only appear on the map after you have discovered it.

that presumes the usual conspiracy theory of all about crowns in spite of the numerous elements in homestead which make it very accessible with no crowns whatsoever.

    Actually, no.

The most convenient way to access all of the houses, and travel to them, is via the interface in the Crown Store.

i have never needed to access **all** of the houses at a time so i will take you at your word that that is true for you and for some.

For me, when i needed to access some of the houses and make some general decisions about houses - it was more convenient to use the maps.

You see lordrichter, for me and perhaps for a few others but clearly not for lordrichter, location was the first primary cut for my housing choices.

on the crown screen you cannot see where the house is except for vague text about locale UNTIL YOU TRAVEL INTO IT (hello load screen waste of time.)

For me, and perhaps others, since i knew i wanted houses in certain areas, it was much more convenient to look at the maps, see where the houses were and then move on or decide to take a preview that way.

It meant i didn't have to preview hammerdeath for one and truly i only ended up paying loading screen time loss for a few i did not end up buying.

So, see, i did not need to ever access **all** of the houses because of the info the maps provided me without load screens that the crown option did not.

but i am sure its different for those who pick houses not based on location.

Location is important, but there are not that many houses in the world. It is not like you get more than one choice for every location. That is one of the problems with Homestead, in my book. They don't have very many houses to choose from.

Interior and layout is pretty important. Houses might be in the right location, but have poorly laid out interiors.

The beauty of going at it from the Crown Store is that you have a listing of all of the houses and can go right to the ones you are interested in. You don't have to search the maps looking for them.

You definitely need a way to toggle off the houses without also toggling off the wayshrines. That's a little silly that it's only all or nothing. :|

It's currently still waiting approval by the ESOUI staff (I'm not sure what timezone they're in or how long this will take), but I've written a small addon (with a toggle) that allows you to hide houses which you have not purchased but that display with the dark icon on the map:

HideHousePreviews is what it's called. Hopefully it's provides what people are looking for! (And hopefully is available for download from ESOUI and Minion soon).

Wow... again, I'm impressed. A need arises with an update, and less than two weeks later, TWO add-ons authors have addressed it.
Thank you so much @nooblybear and @Ayantir .

And... @ZOS_RichLambert ... frankly... I understand why you wouldn't let us switch off crown crates or crown store announcements natively... but look at what the No, Thank You add-on does. Also look at Awesome Guild Store. These options, filters and features should be in the game natively.

I don't know who designs map in ZOS, but even in "real" world we have this simple rule - the more you "zoom" into digital map - the more detail you will see.
Houses you don't own are not that important. If you zoom out completely to see whole Tamriel the only icon you should see, should be wayshrines.

...or even better, design a less obtrusive and smaller icon...to me at first, the house icon just looked like a blob, until i kept looking at it and looking at it, and finally saw the 3D representation of a house...we need a better icon, that's more indicative of a house, without covering up other icons...

Actually they can leave the ICONs and use the side panel to allow us to scroll up or down fast to jump to a spot which would coincide with a highlight of each focal point/icons based on filters

What everyone is saying is very simple and not resolved by DaryaK's comment.

We cannot easily highlight or select icons on the map due to the poor design and limiting options/filters

Luckily, I didn't ever read the document that automatically puts all of the houses on your map, so the only houses that show on mine are the few that I own plus one that I accidentally entered while looting a village. But I remember the horror of a map filled with black house icons on PTS - and we asked repeatedly at that time for it to be fixed before it went live. Which makes me think they won't ever bother.

Sad for people on consoles. But thank you very much to the addon developers who have addressed this.

So, a note to console players - keep in mind that any house you preview will be added to your map, and all houses will be put there if you read the document that you get from Canthion after completing an apartment quest (I think that's where you get it? I can't remember but to be safe I just destroyed those without reading).

To be fair, the only major problem I've had with houses covering wayshrines is in Glenumbra and Stro's M'kai (so far).

And to be fair, in Daggerfall, I can usually wayshrine to the inn room and then exit the room and I end up in the inn proper. Might mean a few extra minutes when loading, but this isn't a big problem for me.

It eliminates them on Votans Minimap, since he uses the actual game map and just shrinks it down. It is a lightweight map that does what I need though if you use it you will lose custom pins and border pins. I don't need them though.

I was just thinking, if I could port to any house on the map to inspect it, like I can today, but then leaving them I could go outside these houses not being ported back to the instance I came from, this could have some sense. Allow that and then these houses, even those unlocked, could offer a porting spots, just like the wayshrines do. Then no separation of wayshrines from house markers on map is needed.

I'd like to see a toggle option added, there are simply too many houses marked around your map for no reason.

Aren't there like only 39 houses in total at this point scattered across like the 15 main zone maps plus 5 starter zones plus craglorn?

Compared to how may wayshrines per map.

Yes but you can use wayshrines houses are not useful for anything you can't store things there and the mats are just a grind so much work for nothing if you're a Role Player this is golden but if not the gold and time cost to buy and furnish is just way too crazy. I got one house all be it a nice house it's just not for me.

Don't want houses I will never buy blocking wayshrines I actually use.

I've just downloaded it. Thanks for this!

I agree with the person who said it's helpful to know where each house is located. But only in the short term. Once you've chosen which houses you want (or even once you've seen the icons enough that you know by heart where each house is) you don't need them anymore and it does get annoying when they're all over the map, especially when they're on top of icons you could actually use.

It's really nice to have the option to turn them on or off depending on whether I need them, instead of having them there all the time.

This has been a growing issue I've had. You need addons to fix or supplement what should be basic functionality. There are many things you SHOULD easily be able to do yet can't without an addon. Every 3 months most addons completely break, and you get to see which authors of your favorite addon have quit.

"If you are running addons, we recommend you disable them to prevent issues such as this in the future."
    - ESO Support

If you encounter any in game issue, any at all, and you're using addons, ZOS can say they won't support you unless you disable them. Disable them to fix whatever problem you're having. I totally understand why (ZOS doesn't control them, and it modifies the game - totally understandable) but the point of running addons is to fix the basic functionality of the game, forcing most players to use them.

Somebody was able to write a simple script to remove the unowned houses, something that should have been in game from the beginning. Multiple crafting isn't in game. Decent guild stores in game. Basic things like style markers aren't in game. Buff trackers aren't in game. Freakin' LUA memory extensions to make addons decent to use aren't in game.

I have a serious love/hate with addons and this game. The addon community is amazing for fixing truly basic features the game is lacking. And at the same addons can break and cause variety of problems (especially if they're out of date), which wouldn't be a problem if the basic functionality was in the game in the first place.
