The bounty system is AWFUL

Your bounty doesn't decrease during maintenance, but it does decrease when you're otherwise offline. So if your bounty gets that high, go play an alt for a day or three. I had a 900-ish bounty last week (didn't see an NPC who could see me :p ), and so I logged off and played another character for a while. The bounty was gone by the time I logged in the next day.

Bounty system's fine, and now you know to be more careful about witnesses in the future. ;)
Think it drops 500 or something each hour, less than 1000 but more than 2-300.
If i get caught pickpocket and have loot on me I simly bolt out of town and farm mats or grind for an quarter.

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I like getting away with murder. I like using the assassins blade to kill my victims with no witnesses. The danger of getting caught needs to be real though and the bounty should be high if I'm ever caught. Call me a coward but as soon as I get the smallest bounty I sneak away to either wait it out or pay it up.

If you think the bounty system is too harsh set the game so you can't kill innocent npcs, try not to steal things and don't ask to nerf the whole system just because you can't turn back time to correct your own mistakes.

Just pay your bounty and be more careful in the future.

I'm sorry but the bounty system needs a massive nerf because it takes WAY too long for your bounty to decrease. I have a bounty of 11k and I log on the next day to find out it's still 11k.
I really don't wanna lose my gold since I'm saving up for a house, this high bounty is making it impossible for me to sell/buy items and craft things at cities due to the large amount of guards.

    Be thankful

    In real life

When you owe 11k... You will still owe 11k 50 years later.

You dont like having a bounty? Pay up.
If you dont plan on paying up, than dont break the rules.

    What you think gangsters do?
When they get caught they pay it up. Theres other stuff that nobody caught them doing so, it works out just fine for them.

What you think business people do?
They dont like paying up, they dont break rules.

Some real, secret Original Gangster lingo,
I'm sharing with u a secret so take it seriously.

    11k bounty?
You need to work on your "Whatever you do... Don't get caught"

Do you think serial killers after they publicly kill people roam the streets like nothing happened.
You kill people you better be avoiding all the police and guards.

You killed someone, expect to get wooped by police and guards when they see you. Expect no mercy from them.
    Expect to pay up.

You knew the consequences, so dont go whining about it, when you knew full well what was going to happen afterwards.
11k, you brought that onto yourself, now you gotta deal with the consequences.

    [snip]

Did the guards and police stop looking after a few hours cuz their bounty ran out?
What was those guys doing when they had a bounty? They stayed hiding.
    They knew the consequences.

If anything, the game should be like GTA, when someone has a massive bounty, and a guard catches you... More guards show up on horses and dismount and go HAM on you.
Make your fully legendary trial gear ass look like squat when they finish with u.

    'N'WAH'
    'You cannot escape me!'
    'NOW YOU DIE!'
Bring that back to Elder Scrolls

If I managed to get a bounty that was too high I would simply sell/launder all the stuff. Strip off all my gear and run through Daggerfall in my smalls screaming "Catch me, Catch me" until I ran out of stamina and the guards caught and killed me .... bye bye bounty!

    Lol.

Enjoy life in exile CRIMINAL!!!! We don't want you near our cities anyway! Stay in cold harbour where you belong!

This game needs to add a guard duty for players! where you can hunt down people with bounties... when you find them, they can't reject duel request and you can take a cut of their bounty if you win! That would be awesome ;)

Ok... I forget the name of it but get the feat where when they catch you, you have the option of *I have powerful friends*. Gives you time to get to the thieves hideout so you can pay your bounty. Or... stay away from the cities til it goes away. Plenty of mats to farm, plenty of quests to do, plenty of things that keeps you away from guards. And put points into sneak, pickpocket, etc. You gotta up your skills. And be patient. Dont steal or kill when you can be seen.

But the number one thing... dont get caught. And if you do get seen... stop and wait for the bounty to go away. And dont run. It makes the bounty higher. FYI... you can get a document that gets rid of a huge bounty... like a hundred thousand( i forget cuz Im waiting to get other things first before I go on that rampage.)

Just go steal Thief Troves and use the anti-bounty papers (i forgot what they're called)

It doesn't seem to decrease during maintenance, or at least the first time it came out that gave some trouble. Had nearly the same amount when the server went offline as it did when it came back up.

It probably wont decrease when the game world is not running.

@LadyLavina @kenneth.friisb16_ESO in your settings you can find an option to turn OFF auto loot for stolen items. It keeps this from happening by adding the extra keypress to confirm looting of stolen goods only

We're referring to the items that sit on weapon/armor racks & things that aren't in containers. I do appreciate that response though.

Edit: Unless of course it's been changed to where that setting affects things on weapon racks as well. I haven't actually run into this in a while.

I could have sworn it affects those too, if they would be considered stolen. I turned this on some months ago and I have not had this OOPS moment since, but I suppose it could be coincidence.

Unfortunately, the auto loot does not effect items that are not directly in containers. That shield leaning up against the table? You click on that its instantly in your inventory. I've had issues with some guild traders having "free" items out in the open as I rush from trader to trader.

I had some additional thoughts for this thread. It would be interesting if you could do quests for the guards to decrease your bounty. Perhaps going and killing monsters/daedra in a certain area or some kind of parcel delivery. Guards would not aggress during the time you were alotted to complete the quest, but would immediately if you failed to complete it within (x) amount of time.

I think Fable 2 had a community service option when you got caught.

I have no thoughts on how much of the bounty this would remove, as I don't think such a feature should wipe the slate clean if the bounty is rather high.

A couple of thing that might help you out:

    1. Invest some skill points in "Legerdemain" passives (trust me it helps a lot)

    2. Find a good place where there is no guards, some chests and (if you don't prefer pick-poceting) not too much NPC's
(for example Indoril Manor in Devon's Watch - there is only one NPC there, no guards and at lest 10 containers)

    3. Log in, steal suff, log off and repeat - until your you can fance no more items. I am able to earn 9000 - 12000 gold daily per character that way (RNG dependent).

If you have access to DLCs (Thieves guild & Dark brotherhood):

Grind their skill lines - that also help a lot
Thieves guild - for selling stolen items to fences for more gold (up to 10% more) and faster bounty decaying.
Dark brotherhood - for "eliminating" certain NPCs that might see you stealing stuff, and increase your bounty.

btw. Doing quests for Thieves guild & Dark brotherhood will reward you with consumables that (when consumed) diaereses your bounty.

The major difference is the fact that this is a persistent world. You can't just get sent to jail for an arbitrary amount of black-screen time in ESO like you could in previous TES games.
