How do you people get caught so much?

I think I only ever had a bounty of 50k and that was because I decided to kill civilians in the street on purpose to send them a message...

It's supposed to be a punishment for breaking the law (or, for being a bad thief).

Stop murdering people in plain sight and be more subtle.

Checkout my bounty at the time when I decided to have some werewolf fun time at the Caravan in Reapers March.

It was actually higher then that as I kept on having fun after snapping this screenshot.

It certainly took a while for my bounty to become be cleared up lol

Go and do the TG daily heists. You get edicts that clear 2K bounty and your bounty will go down in the TG hideout. Plus, put points in the passive to quickly lower it too.

11k is nothing to what I have seen some people have.

I never had a bounty higher than 2K, but my bounties were always cleared after a 6 hour night's rest.

If the bounties don't get cleared fast enough to your taste, then
    1. Don't commit crimes, or
    2. Don't get caught

I've seen many comments that are like "don't do it then" well if I had a time machine then I'd certainly go back in time to not do it.

I don't have the Thieves Guild DLC so all those perks/abilities to decrease bounty quicker is out of the question.

I think completing quests should reduce your bounty since you're increasing your reputation by doing good deeds, which should have people forgive you for all the bad things you did before.

Don't log out. Find somewhere to hide and then go make a sandwich and come back. There was or Finally a system planned that would let players hunt other players who had bounty and essentially be justicars but apparently it ran into issues in testing and was scraped. Sometimes I do feel like the bounties are long because it was designed with the idea that you would be fighting other players to get away but I could just be crazy

Yeah they scrapped the best part of it. :(

I really don't wanna lose my gold since I'm saving up for a house, this high bounty is making it impossible for me to sell/buy items and craft things at cities due to the large amount of guards.
Sounds like a "learn to crime" issue.
    Don't like the big bounty?
    Don't. Get. Caught.

Sneak a lot. Steal only when they aren't looking. Burglary is better then pickpocketing, since containers have no chance of feeling your hand slip into them. Also there are some locations where you can steal completely unobserved - containers tagged as stealable but with no witnesses in sight (often through quest-related changes in the area).

    Or of you do...
    - flee to Coldharbour or -Cyrodil- and earn something there.
    - do all your selling in outlaw refugees (every one of them has one entrace that is outside the city limits) and all your crafting at overland crafting stations.
    - pay it off, then steal more without getting caught to regain your losses.
    - join the thieves guild for some perks in that regard.
    - raise legerdemain (overland treasure chest hunting!) for more perks in that regard.

And 11K is nothing. Especially now while al those furniture schematics are still selling for good gold...

Personally I think the bounty decreases way to quickly! It makes crime almost consequence-less, unless you go really overboard and murder a whole town or something...
I for one would have preferred if the bounty did not decrease, but was split for each alliance. So you could have a high bounty in DC lands, but be "upstanding" back home in EP lands...

Fr; I bought a purple Dunmer pillow pattern/recipe for 10k and flipped it immediately for 75k. People are going insane with their spending, and I love it!

The only bounty related thing I'm unhappy with is the fact that you can accidentally steal weapons/armor if you're trying to talk to certain guild merchants. Twitchy key presses aside, that shouldn't be something you can "accidentally" do.

Your bounty doesn't decrease during maintenance, but it does decrease when you're otherwise offline. So if your bounty gets that high, go play an alt for a day or three. I had a 900-ish bounty last week (didn't see an NPC who could see me :p ), and so I logged off and played another character for a while. The bounty was gone by the time I logged in the next day.

Bounty system's fine, and now you know to be more careful about witnesses in the future. ;)

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

Whoever said fullfilling quests is always a "good" deed? A shady Dunmer (I think) asked me multiple times to steal a bottle of liquor. And some people want things to be done in the dark or have no political influence at all.

Besides, completing a quest gives you gold, which, in a certain way, reduces your bounty by giving you more gold. If you don't have the gold to pay off your bounty, fullfilling a quest will give you some gold to make sure you can.

So, OP killed multiple NPCs while being visible, or he/she/it robbed ppl while been seen for an extended period of time.
Now the game is broken for not removing the bounty after few hours. How sad. Either L2S (sneak) or pay the price.

That leaves you with only one solution. Roll a new character. Use the one with the bounty only for writs and pledges. That bounty is going to stay up for a long time without the proper passives. Abide by the law if you are not willing to take the punishment ya milkdrinker.

I had some additional thoughts for this thread. It would be interesting if you could do quests for the guards to decrease your bounty. Perhaps going and killing monsters/daedra in a certain area or some kind of parcel delivery. Guards would not aggress during the time you were alotted to complete the quest, but would immediately if you failed to complete it within (x) amount of time.

I think Fable 2 had a community service option when you got caught.

I have no thoughts on how much of the bounty this would remove, as I don't think such a feature should wipe the slate clean if the bounty is rather high.
