I paid gold for the EH Chateau unfurnished. It's something to look forward to as I collect patterns and such, plus the title is cool. If you have the gold to spend, get it. Otherwise get the cave or island when they become available.

I am going to wait for when crowns are on discount. And then probably miss the discount again because I wasn't paying attention to crown prices.

Seriously though, an eso friend bought the ebonheart mansion and has invited a group of 12 or so to hang out and duel. Was a lot of fun, went back there today and he has started decorating and adding the test dummies which is quite cool.

Khajiit will offer the following wisdom.

Do you need all that space - not do you want it - do you need it? Really need it. Will your life be so much worse without it?

Also have you considered that given the time and the coin it will take to fill that you will mostly be sitting in a big empty castle for a long time yes?

Try a smaller home first. See if you are happy there. The small tavern of khajiit is most lovely. So lovely in fact that they moved the thread about Santie's Grotto to the Community Creations section so as not to overshadow every other home in Tamriel yes.

Also consider that many more interesting homes may become available over the next few months. There is nothing to stop you collecting materials and recipes and crafting things while you bide your time to wait for these yes.

The advice of khajiit is to buy a small home for now and see what you can do with that. If so terribly unhappy in your chosen smaller space then consider upgrading later.

I'm sorry to say that Housing is a big disappointment as it currently stands.

The buildings are just cut and paste jobs from other buildings in the game so there's nothing original to experience. Its corner-cutting programming and a rip-off.

Housing is only good for simplistic role-play at best. If that's your thing, then fine, but you'll get more satisfaction from Moving' Monkeys Builder set by Babytoy.

I'm surprised so many players chose that Chateau. It's so ugly dark !

But I'm also surprised at the rate people seem to spend huge amounts of crowns and gold (well gold is fine, because useless, but real money ???) into housing.
I like to furnish my home with stuff I collect and craft myself.

To each his own I guess.

You will be giving Zo$ data, and the more they get like this, the more they'll exploit people like me and you who have poor or no (like me) impulse control.

Also, for a place that big, it will cost A LOT.

I bought Ravenhurst for 325k gold, and furthermore spent 400k on recipes, mats etc. And it's like 30% furnished. Don't do it.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.

I'm planning to buy that same mansion with crowns (unfurnished), then save up for the next one while furnishing this one. My plan is to eventually have all 3, but the rest bought with gold.

I'm retired and have a lot of time to play. It keeps my old brain active and I love building/furnishing mansions! I do the same in Minecraft as well! It keeps me busy between trials (which are my other passion in this game!).
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

Don't do it for the following reasons:

    1. Don't do it because it's stupidly expensive. You could buy 2 or 3 NEW COMPLETE GAMES for the cost of this place, especially if you do it furnished.
    2. Don't do it because ZOS was lazy and put not one once of effort INTO THE HOUSE ITSELF. It is a tired copy/pasta of at least 3 other castles already in the game.
    3. Don't do it because you cannot access the upper balcony or the top of the curtain wall, depriving you of all the splendid views and useable space this place SHOULD have.
    4. Don't do it because the 24 player cap is ridiculous. ZOS should have very well known this cap is not in line with housing in virtually any other major game and SHOULD have known that players would be unhappy with this and should NOT have released housing until they figured out a solution to the "performance issues" that supposedly result at higher numbers of players.
    5. Don't do it because you cannot access at least TWO floors that the outside of the castle shows. In fact, the interior of the castle bears NO resemblance to the floorplan that should exist based upon the exterior view of the castle.
    6. Don't do it because there has not been a significant crown sale since this monstrosity came out. Half price is the only way this even BEGINS to make any sense.
    7. Don't do it because the only thought or care that was put into housing was put into developing a grind for the furniture that goes along with it. And doing it in such a way as to drive frustrated players into the cash shop.
    8. Don't do it because housing still has a host of bugs associated with it. DEMAND that these be fixed first.
    9. Don't do it because the outside grounds are the worst and most limited of all the houses with outdoor space. The trapdoor downstairs doesn't even take you to a sliver of beach but instead dumps your character into slaughterfish infested waters.
    10. Don't do it because by doing so all you will accomplish is to teach this company that they can put out a substandard product and charge you an outrageous price for it and you'll cave and let them get away with it. Wait for them to improve the value of this product or put out better houses in the future.

In my opinion, if you purchase any fully furnished home with crowns.....it's not going to be a very fulfilling experience. However, if you purchase a home via in game gold, craft your own furniture, purchase achievement items via the vendors....then you are now immersed in the game.

Back in the old VR16 days, I did not see any real incentive to do all the quests in all three covenants. Now we can ear titles (lord, count) and real rewards from time spent on crafting skills (besides just TBS or upgrading to legendary).

The only crowns I've spent have been for extra character slots. I don't mind subbing if comes out to .$.05/hr of entertainment.

Though I personally agree with the posted reasons NOT to buy such an outrageous property, I am no one to tell you what to like/not like or what to do with your money.

But seeing as you asked for feedback, I would suggest doing a cost/benefit analysis. Ask yourself what is it about that house that is so appealing to you and why you obviously want it. Write that/those reason down in one column, and then all the other reasons not to buy it. There are some very strong points listed in this thread as to why not. Compare the two and see which decision is the most important and makes the most sense to you.

Really, ask yourself why you want this, or any house for that matter, and what you will get from owning such a thing. And keep in mind the game world has an endless supply of gold that one can accumulate through farming limitless resources and selling, where as the world you live in has a very limited amount of money you can acquire with very real expenses.

Cravings come and go. Once you come to terms as to why you really want this thing, it will be easier to dismiss this craving, or come up with a solid and valid reason for such an expense.
