Anybody worried about their investment in ESO?

How many have invested so much time and money on ESO that they start to feel just a tiny bit worried that the devs can no longer deliver what's expected from the best MMOs today?

TBH I really haven't been playing much lately since the Morrowind announcement and all the high priced crown store items. Been passing time playing the Division while waiting for Ghost Recon Wild lands to hit shelves. I hate to say it by I think my ESO time is coming to an end due to the greed and lack of desperately required fixes. If GRW ends up being fun I think my time will be spent there instead.

A game isn't an investment. I don't see any of the money I've put into the game as an investment. It's money for entertainment, and it's kept me entertained since the January 2014 beta so far.

It's also not an investment because one day the servers will close and everything will just go away.

I have never played and don't intend to play any other MMO than ESO, so what's expected of those games is not even remotely considered when I play ESO and spend money on it.

I see the complete opposite. I have really worried I was investing hours into a game that might not live on as long as I would like.

All the DLC, Crown Crates, Crown store edditions, Homestead, Morrowind etc, I'm happy with as its making a revenue for them. If the game is profitable it will live on.

Sure I hope that profit gets put back into making the game stable etc, and not just new content, but id prefer it this way to a slick game with no revenue that shuts down too soon

People are not quitting the game. It's only growing, and more pills I know are taking ESO plus that before.

I'm more confident now that the game i love will live on that I was a year ago.

If you put money into this thinking that it is an investment; you have poor judgement. The game you play is entertainment; not an asset. If you want to invest in the game; I haven't looked. Is ZOS publicly traded? That's where you would want to spend your money to invest.

That's you tho and from your side of view. Which is also the reason things are not in balanced, because the majority of the players just play for fun and stop playing time to time, and those are the one Zenimax looked at as well when they did this current balance patch, which is one of the worse imh.

No, but then, I haven't spent hours rerunning dungeons or anything like that.

I was a subscriber until the recent morrowind announcement, and the changes (percieved or actual) made ESO+ feel like a poor investment, but I think that they can continue to make a good game and i'm looking forwards to morrowind.

To those who are saying that the game is not an investment - that's not true, it's just not necessarily a monetary investment. You invest time and/or money into this game, and you expect short term and perhaps long term returns of entertainment. If people don't give ZOS their time or money, the game will cease. Therefore the game does depend on investment - just not with financial returns.

People are getting hung up on the word investment (even though I think it is the perfect word to describe how invested players get in games like ESO).

The debate could be rephrased as "do you worry about the long term future of the game? because a vocal part of the community has a range of complaints, including pricing, performance and unsatisfying dlc's".

I think we should be worried, because if (when) ESO closes it wont be because the players didn't want to support it, but because ZOS made it too difficult to keep supporting this game. (ZOS and ESO are two separate things, and players are as important as ZOS in keeping ESO running).

    No, I'm not worried.

This is my first forum post, and whenever I look at forum posts, or search for information on ESO. All I get is an endless supply of people complaining about the dev's decision.
But reading the patchnotes myself, it got to me. But not in a way you'd think.

It was clear to me that these are devs that CARE about their game, and about the enjoyability of it. I've been an mmorpger for over a decage and I've probably been addicted to every game under the sun but it always comes down to the same issue of the devs not caring about their game.

The fact that they fixed clipping issues for fashion warms my heart, because other games don't care about this. I played GW2 on and off for three years from launch where they where so lazy that the "non-humanoid" female races didn't get their own armor skins. There where no feminine looks or cleavages for females, just the exact same armor males had. (while the human races had big differences between the genders). It was so bad, that if you were some of the "weird" races, your wardrobe was limited by half because the clipping was insane. Claws. tails. butts. It drove me insane, and after two years we finally started getting gender-specific armor for those races. But it was too little too late.
    They never fixed the clipping.
ESO did, and I haven't seen many complaints about it.

I'll continue supporting ESO in any way I can, because I have a feeling it's only going to get better. Despite what some might think, they're listening. You guys complained endlessly about the last "dlc's" that they weren't big enough. And look at that. Morrowind. That outh to be big enough.

If one has subscribed since 2014, and bought a lot of things in the crown store, and spent countless hours on getting the best gear, then this is an investment in a fun hobby, which one enjoys here and now, but many people in this forum have complained about IC, crown crates, Homestead, lack of new pvp content, and bad servers for instance, so if this trend continues, with people also getting disappointed by Morrowind, one might be justified feeling a very minor worry that in a not very distant future it's time to "cut your losses" and find a new MMO (and start the whole process all over again there...)

But happy to hear that people who have responded so far are not worried about this :)

There is never any guarantee in life that your hobby will continue.
    Your house might burn down.
You might get a job that leaves no spare time for said hobby.
You might actually loose interest (how many different "hobbies" haven't you had in your life?)

There is never a guarantee that what you put your soul, time, and hardearned money on will be there for you for your entire life.
Which if you have such a mindset, you'll only get disappointed time and time again.

Which is why I'm completely onboard with the people that say "it isn't an investment, it's money spent on entertainment".

As much as I'd like to think this mmorpg will be alive and kicking in 10 years, there's a high chance it wont happen. With the market and the fleeing customer no game is actually safe these days.

Every single mmorpg out there is having the same issue with the masses: You cannot please everyone, and there is always someone mad, disappointed, and ranting about the missteps a company has taken with their game.

Wildstar fired their pvp team. They fired half their people when they decided to not launch the game in Asia.
GW2 fired their dungeon team and never got it back. (thus never fixing past mistakes and only focusing on throwing out new content and hoping people will be happy enough). They decided not to have a holy trinity (dps, tank, healer) and then added raids that needed a healer.
Funcom's CEO got caught doing illegal shizzle.
Almost every single P2P play has gone F2P with subscription bonuses. (wow being one of the few stubborn ones left, but with them losing numbers every single year people are worried there too).
The only mmorpg I'd consider "safe" is final fantasy, because the core final fantasy fans will always stick to it. No matter how horrid it might become. They're fiercely loyal.

In my opinion, out of all of those ESO seems on safer ground. Even if it isn't the biggest one atm.

I invest my time into running a guild in this game. I do it for the people in the guild, because they are why I play this game anymore.

We have lost people to real life concerns, and also to in-game frustrations, mostly the grinding or disagreements about the direction things are going in game. But we are still growing faster than we are shrinking, and people are being active and participating, so I don't see any reason to believe that the game is in trouble.

I personally disagree with some of the choices this game is making. There are plenty of things that feel like a money grab, including housing. I have felt this way since I started playing, I just see more cases of it now than I did then. I still enjoy playing, I like my characters, I love my guild, and so I am still here, and still investing my time, and I will continue to do so until it is no longer worth it to me, or I feel my time will yield more fun if spent elsewhere.
